What are the best Guest posts?
-
Hi, we have been working on improving the SEO for our website www.caffeinemarketing.co.uk and we are looking to guest blog on some sites. Are there any that you would recommend. What kind of volume of posts do we need to make a significant difference to rankings?

I absolutely agree with what Chris stated about guest blogging. I would say also, that branching out and submitting either article ideas or actual articles where relevant in the publishing sphere could also be a beneficial strategy to enhance your link building content efforts. I know larger publishing sites like the Huffington Post allow for freelance submissions.

Hi Carrie,
Unfortunately, the honest answer here isn't going to be what you want to here because it's the same info you see everywhere for link building.
Done properly, guest posting targets strong websites that make sense. There's no magic number that you need, the more strong and relevant backlinks you can pick up, the better your rankings can be.
Since I'm sure you don't just want links for the sake of having links, you'll also be targeting something very specific so nobody can provide a "top 10 guest post websites" that perfectly applies to you. Those articles definitely do exist but following them is not "guest posting", it's just article submission which has been a pretty bad idea for quite a few years now (thankfully!).
Here's a grossly oversimplified look at my thought process if I'm looking for guest post opportunities:
**1. **What do I want to talk about? General digital marketing? Just SEO? Specifically page titles?
**2. **Who would genuinely benefit from knowing more about that topic?
**3. **Where do those people currently go for their information, even if it isn't specifically to do with digital marketing?
4. Would it make sense for me to have a guest post in that location?
**5. **If yes, what websites in that vertical seem strong and trustworthy enough that I'd want my brand to be associated with it?
With those questions answered, you should then know who your target audience is (that's the end reader, not the site owner you're going to reach out to), what they care about, what strong websites you can potentially collaborate with to get that information to the right people and also how it should be written to best appeal to them.
The alternative here is if you're starting with a website you want to collaborate with and you need to figure out how best to approach it. In this instance, the thought process is similar though it then becomes about identifying the crossover between what that site's users care about and what information you can share with them that will genuinely be of value.
Site owners/webmasters/marketing teams care about delivering the best resources to their user base. When doing your outreach, make sure you're appealing to that notion, not just begging for a favour.
Hope that helps!

Matt Cutts - Guest posts are dead comment
It seems like it was a while ago now that Matt Cutts made his announcement "that guest posts are dead", however, does anyone know if Google has acted on this? Most particularly, for those that are targeting guest posts on high-quality sites, what has so far been the effect since the announcement on rankings? Anyone seen a dip in rankings from their high-quality blog post strategy?

Backlinks embedded in posts or backlinks in sidebar?
What's better? A backlink to my site, embedded into a blog post/article? Or a hardlink in the sidebar? The problem with links embedded inside articles, is that when the blog linking to me, gets updated, the articles disappear from first page and I lose the link from home page. How do you deal with this? I also read this: "The best link you can get is from a site ranking #1 for the keyword you want to rank for. It would be great to have the #1 site for a desired keyword linking me even if they are a PR 0 site." Is this right? Thx in advance.

Guest blogging for the gaming industry
Guest blogging seems to be one of the few legit linking methods left these days. My problem is that I work for a company in the gaming industry niche. All of the blogs directly connected are either spam, competitors or affiliates. I have been doing some guest blogging with connected articles on non-related blogs such as "financial advice if you win big" or a recent news story for a general blog. However, these sites are not connected and I cannot get the more quality general sites interested in these topics. Any advice for me?

Is guest posting still a good idea?
Lately the changes in Google all revolve around reducing the power of "self made links". We've seen blog networks devalued and low quality directories devalued. We've also seen people penalized for unnatural patterns of anchor text. With all of this in mind, I'm wondering how much time I should be putting in to guest posting. It seems to me like the safest focus should be on creating great content and then promoting that content. But it's so much easier to spend a few minutes writing an article for someone else and getting an anchor texted link back to mine. To most, guest posting is still considered white hat. But really, when you look at it, you are providing a webmaster content in return for a link back to your site. But it is definitely not a natural vote for your website. It is really just a self made link. If I were Google, I think it would be quite easy to find ways to determine what is a guest post that was created simply to get a link back to a site. And then I would devalue the links from those posts. What do you think? Do you still do much guest posting?

Is using a tool such as My Blog Guest worth it?
I saw the post http://www.seomoz.org/blog/4-valuable-link-building-services and saw that MyBlogGuest seems like a good link building service, so I signed up. It really is confusing though, it almost makes me think I have to install WP Blogs on my sites which primarily run in Joomla, so linking directly to the blog is not an option. Okay, fine, so I'll just skip the part about putting in offers on other people's posts. I really signed up for the link building part of it anyways. So, now, I just write content in the site-used article generator? Then, go in and offer it manually to people? Doesn't really strike me as some super powerful method of linkbuilding, but there's a good chance I'm missing something. If this is the case, I'd assume I'd have to write content that is relevant to the site that I am trying to build links for, and then place links back to that site, so basically I want my posts on competitors sites and that will help out with backlinks and authority? It's really confusing. I just want to have my content writer write good content and get links from it, and this method just confuses me. I'd appreciate any insight from anyone who has used that service or can recommend something easier or better.

Best way to create deep links - Building links to inner pages
I am looking for a cost effective way to rank 30 inner pages, which are all low competition, long tail keywords. What type of links are the best for this type of project, social bookmarks, article marketing, high pr links, etc.... Also who would be good to hire for this type of project?

Marketing URLs - best practices
Hi, We do have a consistent url structure like http://www.company.com/productname-london
Link Building | | ecnic
http://www.company.com/productname-auckland
etc. Now marketing wants to include each URL in our yearly printed catalogue.
Out of marketing reasons (I agree with that), they think the URLs are too long and should be for example: http://www.company/london
http://www.company/auckland
etc. Our brochure is very important for direct customers and we have a target group that actively uses the internet and social media and therefore will pick up these links. Even if we do correct redirects in the background - couldn't we have the problem
that we have a double set of urls? What do you think about that?0
