IP addresses

I'm creating a filter for internal IP addresses and the client has sent me this: 2001:db8:85a3:8d3:1319:8a2e:370:7348
Does this mean it is not a fixed IP address?
I have only ever seen IP addresses in this format: 192.0.2.1
Can anyone shed any light?

Hey Muzzmoz!
Donald is correct here. This is a ipv6 IP address. That being said, to add it as a filter in Google Analytics (GA) is not much different from adding an ipv4 address.
Under the view, go to the filters tab & select add filter. Then using the predefined, exclude, IP, & equal to options, you will be able to paste the IP address into the field.
After you've done that, have that person go to a page on your site & you can use the Real-time views to confirm that you have been able to filter their IP.
Let me know if you have any further questions on this. I took the liberty of changing the IPs in your original post so that they're not publicly posted.

Now this is something I am not familiar with.
Maybe someone else can chime in on that one.

Thanks Donald.
So how would I apply regex to an IP address like this so that it can be added to a GA filter?
-
This is most likely and ipv6 ip address not your standard ipv4. The difference being is that ipv6 is 128 bit while ipv4 is 32 bit.
This greatly increases how many ip addresses can be created vs ipv4 which is 4.3 billion. ipv6 can have 7.9x10 to the 28th power. That is a lot of ip addresses!!!

Filter staff IP address in Analytics
Hi, I'm trying to filter staff visits from Analytics on a new view. IT have given me an IP address range and I have found the following advice: "For an IP address range, you’ll have to select Custom Filters, then choose Exclude, and IP Address from the dropdown list. Then, enter a regular expression for the IP Address" If this is correct, how do I write the IP address range 1xx.xxx.xxx.160 - 1xx.xxx.xxx.223 in RegEx? Thanks

I need to whitelist the Google Analytics servers via IP Address. Any one know their server IPs?
Due to a walled garden situation, I need to input all the servers we should have access to via IP Address. We need to track the way our users are browsing within the garden, so I require all the IP addresses that Google Analytics would use. I tried googling it, but was not able to find any definitive answers. Thank you in advance, Heather

IP address and GA
Our company is based in Noida, and in GA, i can see few visits from New Delhi. Both these cities are nearby. ( In India ) Our hosting is in US. When a visitor comes to site, does visit is based on IP address of the user's system ? Our company has taken hosting from Noida. Does that means that visits from New Delhi are Genuine and NOT from our company ? My apologies, if i am not clear...
