Incorrect domain authority result on SEO tool bar and OSE
-
The SEO tool bar is returning what I believe to be an incorrect domain authority of 71 and showing 24,356,141 lins from 153,051 domains.
The OSE is also returning 71 as domain authority.
Anyone know what could be doing this?
Thanks.
Jason

Yeah, it probably will continue to give you skewed results in any of these kinds of tools, not really a way around it that I can think of.
I guess you'll need to put more credence into page authority metrics rather than full domain authority when working out a strategy.

Thanks for looking in to this guys.
I just thout uk.com was another tld - albeit an unpopular one - and I had no idea this sort of sub domain existed.
Wil lthis continue to affect all of the tools in SEOMoz?
-
UK.com provides subdomains, so there is a lot going on there - site:uk.com
It's a bit weird the way OSE counts linking root domains to the domain:
- A query for UK.com in OSE will return the linking RD only to pages on UK.com
- A query for www.UK.com will go deeper
- And finally a query for www.subdomain.UK.com returns the actual amount of linking RD to all the pages within that level of subdomains on UK.com.
At least that's how I think it works
-
Hmm, I wonder how the OSE calculates these sort of subdomains then in terms of DA.
Although, I can't get anywhere near the same number of links to show up in OSE. I get 24M links from 39 domains (that's 39 for uk.com, 20 for the site you linked to, although maybe that's for the awards pages only and the www is different again with 459 domains.).
What page is giving you the 153,000 linking domains?
-
I think it looks pretty OK.
I guess UK.com is a pretty popular website and that's the data you're getting.
-
Yes Barry I'm sure it's wrong for the reasons you state.
-
Why do you think that's wrong?
Is your PR 8+? I know you have about twice as many linking domains than Wikipedia (according to OSE) but that's not all that contributes to authority
-
Could you give us the URL where this is happening?

Alternatives to Domain Authority
Is there another metric (or metrics) that is similar to the Moz Domain Authority that doesn't fluctuate as much? I've been reporting it on a monthly basis for about a year, but lately it seems like it's been going up and down every few weeks.

Domain / Page Authority - logarithmic
SEOmoz says their Domain / Page Authority is logarithmic, meaning that lower rankings are easier to get, higher rankings harder to get. Makes sense. But does anyone know what logarithmic equation they use? I'm using the domain and page authority as one metric in amongst other metrics in my keyword analysis. I can't have some metrics linear, others exponential and the SEOmoz one logarithmic.

How is domain authority related to country top level domains?
I've noticed that for some country top level domains (tld) the domain authority returned by open site explorer is based on the domain that has been registered within the tld. For example, domainname.co.uk provides a domain authority specific to the domain. However, for some other country top level domains, this does not appear to be the case. Examples I have found include: domainname.co.nr domainname.co.pt domainname.co.ee For these top level domains the domain authority seems to be the same for every domainname, seemingly implying the domain authority is for the top level domain itself rather than for the domain. Is this a common situation for many country top level domains, so that what I see going in here is the tip of a large iceberg, or does this situation just apply to a very isolated set of country top level domains?

SEO moz poor rankings reporting
How are we supposed to send ranking reports to clients if the rankings are constantly reporting false metrics This is not the first time this has happened, but the rankings are WAAAAAAY off. What is the point of reporting rankings that are not accurate? What is the possible cause of this. Is there a solution? What is SEOmoz doing to improve their ranking programs. Our client actually ranked #2 for "northern Virginia HVAC contractors" when moz had us not in the top 50! How are we supposed to bank on information that is so consistently unreliable? northernvirginiahvaccontractors.png northernvirginiahvaccontractorsrank.png

Old data in OSE?
Hello, I know the Mozscape was recently updated, but it's been a week and my site data ( DA, number of backlinks) in Open Site Explorer is still the same. The seomoz toolbar and my pro tools show my DA has increased ( I don't know of another way to verify my backlink count, so I'm not sure on that front). Any idea of the reason behind the disparity? Thanks.

OSE Problems
I'm experiencing severe delays trying to export OSE data into CSV over the past couple of days. Relatively small reports I ran 2 days ago are still pending! Has anyone else noticed this? Also my campaign rankings have not updated since 24th April - anyone else? Logged with Moz Helpdesk but no reply as yet...

Why did Domain Authority go up so much? Did you change your measurement?
Our Domain Authority has been at 42 or 43 for a couple months and it just increased to 54. Why did this happen? I would like to think that it is because of out SEO and linkbuilding work. However, I suspect something else may be involved because the 3 competitors we track also all increased between 10 to 25 points at the same time. What happened? Did you make changes in the way you score DA or is this the result of changes in what pages you crawl? Or what?
