Best practice in terms of link volume in a page
-
Hi everyone!
Done a site audit recently and found that some articles in our Resource content (where we generally put useful industry news/posts) have multiple links in it (4 to 9 links in a single article). And these are usually internal links (within our domain), but there are few mixed with external domains.
What we would like to know:
- What's the best practice in terms of regulating number of links (internal or external) in an article?
- Another case I noticed, some links in our articles appeared to be targeting same landing page, just different anchor texts used. Will this get us into trouble?
Thanks in advanced for your help.
-
- so in general, it should not matter how many links are in the article, as long they're relevant and not too spammy looking?
That's my opinion for internal links.
For external links, relevance and the quality of the destination are important.
-
A) How relevant is the link to the overall article? If the link is not great match then don't use it.
- links are made sure they're still relevant.
B) If you are piling on links that people don't need, don't use them. Just because you mention something or somebody you don't have to link to it. Only link to it if you think some portion of your visitors need the information at the link's destination and will click through to it.
- agree on this
C) How does it look? Do you have so many links that they are distracting? Cut back if the page is blue and smells like spam.
- links are really not that too distracting nor spammy looking in these pages.
D) Some webmasters link to pages on their own site within the text of the article, but references and citations to outside websites are footnoted and placed in a box at the bottom of the page.

I am all about linking to other relevant pages on my site within the text of an article. I don't think that "how many" is the right question. I think that there are a few other questions that are more important....

Value of Links? What is each link worth?
Morning Everyone, I just had this thought and wondered what everyone's opinions were in terms of link value in monetary terms. We'll assume for the purposes of this that the links come from contextually relevant sites and that the sites in question have got the Moz DA from being high quality and have a good quality incoming link profile. Its a bit of a theoretical question, but i guess imagine if the only way you could get links was to pay for them, what would they be worth to you. This is link value for SEO purposes, they will have in addition value from traffic from good sites, that no doubt varies wildly depending on topic. I assume everyone also agrees on: The first link from a domain is the most valuable High DA sites are worth more than low ones. So could anyone who has an opinion on the link value suggest a monetary value for links. Its really just using a monetary amount to see how best to target my time. Here is my example of what might be expected, but I am hoping people with more knowledge will perhaps correct it. DA Rating First Link 2nd-5th Link 5th-10th Link 10Plus Links 5 $5 $2 $1 $0 15 $7 $3 $2 $1 25 $25 $10 $5 $2 35 $45 $20 $7 $3 45 $65 $30 $11 $4 55 $95 $45 $19 $5 65 $200 $100 $45 $6 75 $350 $120 $65 $9 85 $700 $240 $95 $15 95 $1100 $450 $200 $30

Are links from BBB on non-accredited business pages helping SEO?
I've been doing a lot of research on BBB and the site's value. I know you have to pay for accreditation as well as a link, and most search engine optimizers says it's worth it. I added a company to BBB in October, but I did not pay for accreditation or a link, and yet a link still appears on the business' BBB page. Is this link still a followed link? Does Google view it as an important link? If a non-paid link on BBB is still good, I don't see too many more benefits to BBB accreditation than the trust factor and possibly gaining an A+ ranking.

Linking to press coverage, reciprocal links?
We have been generating decent online press coverage with links to our site thanks to our PR agency and I have been asked to link to the online coverage from our website in a 'press coverage' section. My question is would google consider links from our site to the online press coverage as reciprocal links? Thanks

Best way to structure a service area page with many locations to maximize internal links to them?
Currently our service area page (http://www.njlimocarservice.com/services.html) very sloppily lists many of the towns we serve in multiple counties - over 50 approx (scroll down). They have been placed that way so there is links to them from one of the subpages directly linked from the root domain. I am now attempting to make it pretty and organized with my designer. I intend to maintain a link to each individual town/landing page for SEO purposes to keep it close to root domain. My questions is how to best structure this. I don't want to list by county because some people don't know what county the town is in. However an alphabetical list may be overkill as there is so many. The other option is to get a search form or dropdown list on there but how will my landing pages be recognized by crawlers if there is no internal links from my root domain? Eventually we plan to expand further so what happens when we add 100+ landing pages? What will then happen to my internal link juice? Thanks!

Best Link Building technique using SEOMoz tools & Open Site Explorer
Hi, We've been with SEOMoz for a year or two now, but have have kept an eye out for productive link building tools to help the team. To be honest we're struggling with Open Site Explorer because, although it enables us to discover competitors links it doesn't provide much link management functionality. A simple example would be the ability for Open Site Explorer to show links to domains which my clients already have in a different colour, so that we don't waste time exploring dead ends. I'd be very interested to hear tips how other people use the SEOMoz tools to manage their link building as I suspect we may be missing a trick or two... Thanks in advance!

Inbound Links from Web Pages Based in Other Countries
I have noticed that some of my competitors have in-bound links to their sites from high PageRanked websites. But when I investigate the websites, they are based overseas, to be mainly used for linking. Does it hurt them that the sites are based overseas despite the high Page Rank?
