What are your experiences with Google+?
-
Hi all,
It would be great to hear about your experiences with Google+. We've tried a few times to use it in the hope that it might give us a hand in SEO terms but it has been utterly painful. Not only because the UI is almost impossible to figure out, but because engagement is essentially 0.
Perhaps we're doing something wrong. How has it gone for you?

Hi Ross,
Several years ago we used to use Google+ with a mediocre level of engagement, but today it is mostly a dead social site. Google has even begun deleted profiles that are unused and appears to be showing signs of dissolving it completely in the near future. In my experience, I would advise you make sure you have a filled out profile on it (usually it will be tied to your Google My Business account), but then not invest a ton of time with posts after it is created.

Hi Joseph,
Big relief that this isn't just us!!

Hello Ross,
I have a similar experience with Google+ but I believe the reason is that there are simply too few people from our specific industry and country using Google+, to be honest, you don't need to be active on all social media platform, just on the platform where your audience is there.
For me, I just simply share written blog post on my Google+ without creating any unique content for our Google+, we spend more of our time on LinkedIn and Facebook instead.
So again, you don't need to be everywhere, just where your audience at.
Hope this helps,
Joseph Yap

Important G+ News: Google to End Forced G+ Integration, Cut Resources. What Does Everyone Think?
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/04/report-google-to-end-forced-g-integration-drastically-cut-division-resources/ Assuming this article is accurate, I am glad this happened. I spent little time focusing on G+ because I truly felt there were better things to focus my time on. It was never well received by the public and SEO's (for the most part). I did not agree with its usability nor its philosophy. Its forced integration was annoying to say the least and I believe by forcing it down our throats, it turned many of us off. I hope that G+ will no longer have any impact on ranking in SERPs. I never dedicated much time to gaining more followers and I hope that was the right decision. What does everyone think about this?

Counting unique landing pages in Google Analytics: social vs organic channels
Remember the technique Rand posted for counting the unique indexed landing pages on a site? http://moz.com/blog/indexation-for-seo-real-numbers-in-5-easy-steps I'm using Google Analytics to compare this result for the "social" channel vs. the "organic search" channel. The idea is to see whether social or search delivers people to more unique landing pages. I would expect organic search to yield a significantly higher count, due to long tail searches for relatively obscure terms. We have an archive of over 500k pages that Google could be indexing, even if only a fraction of a percent of those might be getting social mentions. But that's not what the numbers show -- I'm seeing roughly 10% higher numbers for the Social channel than for Organic Search. Again, I'm counting unique landing pages here, not the total pageviews or visits. If anyone else here is monitoring these metrics, please chime in with your results. What's the baseline expectation for a large website with hundreds of thousands of pages of issue-centric user-generated content? Should search traffic provide 2x more landing page exposures than social? 5x? 10x? or 0.9x, as in my case? In short, I believe these numbers are pointing to an indexing/ranking problem following a recent site redesign.

Google+ for photographers
What do you think is the best approach when it comes to using Google+ as a photographer? The images have no real SEO benefit, but the ones I post seem to get shared more, +1ed more than posting a link to one of my blog posts with a preview image. What do you think is the best way to approach this problem?

Google+ currently DOES support hidden addresses?
We noticed yesterday that many of our clients with hidden addresses are now able to get a verified G+ page through the Places dashboard. Anyone else have any insight on this? Are they classified as "Local" pages, or just verified "Business" pages?
