13 New Quality Back Links But Little Improvement in DA and PA-WHY?
-
Since September 13 sites have linked to our real estate website. MOZ domain authority of these sites ranks from 45-83. MOZ page authority ranges from 25-36. Six of these links were created in the last 3 weeks. The remainder have been live since Late September/October.
Our domain authority has only increased from 18 to 19 since September. Our site has only 805 linking domains.
Why has the increase in domain authority been so little? I have read that domain authority it algorithmic and that improving up to 25 is not too difficult.
A few notes about the incoming links:
-11 of the 13 do not rank for any keywords, 1 ranks for 20 keywords and one ranks for 1 keyword.
-One has 12 inbound links, three have 1 inbound links and the remaining 11 have no inbound links.
-One has 4 linking domains, three have one linking domains and the reaming 11 having no linking domains.
-7 of the 13 are listing in Google Search Console. The remaining 7 are not.
-Only 3 of the 13 are shown as MOZ linking domains to our website.
-Website traffic has increased somewhat since link building began.
-There has was initially some improvement in ranking but that has dropped off. From the metrics above, does anything sound deficient about these links? Is the fact that they are not being picked up by MOZ a negative sign or is it just an indication that MOZ's link index is rather incomplete? How about the fact that the links are not indicated in Google Search Console?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Alan -
Now, often, you do need a lot of quality backlinks in order to get a business onto page one of Google.
You might need so much more than 10 links, you might need over a hundred quality backlinks or even more sometimes.
The most important thing to remember is that the links must be white hat and high quality.
We build a lot of links for a company that specialises in building garden bars. This business is now on the first page for summerhouses, garden offices, garden rooms.

Hi Robert:
I just subscribed to Ahrefs and see all the links that are missing in MOZ.
Oddly, when I set up a link tracking list on MOZ, 4 of the 6 missing links got indexed within a week.
Overall, I find ahrefs to be a better tool. Only think I don't like about it is the lack of a Question and Answer section.

Hi Alan,
It can take up to several months before your DA or rankings are improving when gaining new links.
Also, there are a lot of links Moz is not showing. Even if the links are our there for 6 months. I think Ahrefs is doing a better job at backlinks. I wonder if you see backlinks with Ahrefs that Moz is not showing...

ahrefs currently has a 7 day trial. It's 7 bucks for 7 days so it wouldn't hurt at all to do that.
I'll defer to the MOZ staff but I don't think quality would be a factor in why they don't show the links.
I hope that helps!

Hi John:
Do you think it would be worthwhile for me to subscribe to ahrefs to evaluate these links?
Also, do you think it is a legitimate concern that MOZ's failure to index the links could be a reflection on the quality of the links?
Thanks, Alan

Hey Alan,
After reviewing things at a high-level, I'm just as curious as you are to know why it's only increased incrementally.
My guess is that they take their time in updating these things. I know there have been a few people asking the MOZ support about some things that seem to be buggy in the link tracking tool so that may play into it.
You have some solid links in your backlink profile so I would just keep doing what you are doing and use as many white hat link building tactics to continue to build up your inbound links.
I wish I could offer more but that's the best I got for now! Thanks!

Hi John, Yes, https://metro-manhattan.com is the link!!! Most curious to hear your opinion. Thanks!, Alan
-
Hey Alan! Thank you - this info is super helpful. Just to check - is this the URL you are talking about? https://www.metro-manhattan.com/ If so, I can run some diagnostics to see what's up.
Thanks!

Hi John:
Thanks so much for your response.
On September 13th, before the first links were launched, search visibility was about 1.67%. The first links were live around September 21st. Search visibility peaked at about 2.9% November 2nd and is now down to 2.03%. Search visibility had been improving since before the new links had launched.
I am somewhat concerned that search visibility was increasing in any case and the new links have not had much of a positive effect. Is the fact that only 3 of the 13 links are shown as a linking domain to our website on MOZ (10 not shown linking to our domain) an indication of lower quality? The fact that most of these backlinks have no linking domains, is this a quality indicator.
I would hate to be investing in developing these links only to find that they have little value.
Thanks, Alan

Hey Alan,
Have you seen improvement in your SEO traffic and keyword rankings by chance? I would look at those as initial indications of improvement. As long as you are building quality links that are relevant to your website, you should see improvements in both DA, organic traffic and keyword positions. It's probably just a waiting game to be honest. It can be frustrating.

I have 2 linking root domains on my URL. But I don't get the whole Root domain thing. So I don't understand how I can improve it?
I have 2 linking root domains on my URL. But I don't get the whole Root domain thing. So I don't understand how I can improve it? I copy and pasted this, from my Links page in my campaign because I can't seem to grasp what a root domain is: 'A higher number of good quality linking root domains improves a page's ranking potential'. Can some one explain to me what this is. As simply as possible. Here's my site www.Thumannagency.com Thanks in advance:)

Better link metrics, but lower rank??
Hello to all, new member here from Houston. I'm learning a lot! I've brought my site up some but my chief competitor is still at #1 position. I ran a full SERP report for my top keyword. My site appears to rank better on: Page Authority…Domain Authority…MozRank…MozTrust...DmT/DmR… Additionally, his on-page grade is F, mine is B! So, it appears sheer bulk incoming links are really where it's at. He beats me, somewhat, at URL Link Counts, also on Followed External Links. The real difference appears to be External Links to This Domain: I have 65, he has somehow managed to get 3500…I think his webmaster has a local directory where everybody links to each other…I can't imagine how a small biz like this, in a fairly non-competitive industry, could get that many. Anyway, thought I'd bring this up for comments/clarifications, if anyone has any---Also, is there a resource to understand these various parameters. Thanks--- John in Houston

How to get past PA and DA value for a specific URL ?
Hi everyone, I was wondering if there is a way to get the past PA and DA value for a specific URL ? I did run a small SEO campaign targeting a couple of deep pages over a month on my site and I would like to measure the efficiency of this campaign but I forgot to write down what was the PA (I know more aloess the DA) of those pages before the starting the campaign. Is their a way to retrieve the historical data of PA/DA ? thanks

Using the PA metric from the mozbar
Hey guys, just a quick question about page authority. Often I'll be on a page with a high domain authority but the page authority is 0 as it says there are 0 links from 0 domains to the page. This is despite the fact there is a followed link from the homepage to that page. Is this just a bug in PA, and can I assume that the page will have at least some authoirty as a link from the homepage is pointed to it? Or is there some other factor that may be preventing the page to not have any PA. Thanks
