What is the best strategy to get a company located in one city, but does business in other cities, ranked locally in the other cities as well?

For example: this client is a custom clothier located in Phoenix, but would like to come up in the search engines for Scottsdale, Tucson, Prescott, Chicago, etc., because he travels to those cities and does business there with his custom clothing business. His website is www.artfultailoring.com
Right now, he'll come up for custom suits phoenix, custom shirts phoenix az, etc.
So how would I get him to come up in the search engines in more locations than just Phoenix?

If it was a real physical address and local phone number, then yes it would work with Google Places. I would suggest using Google for whatever address you plan to obtain and examine the results. I like to obtain addresses zoned for business which appear as businesses on Google.
Also, how could he also be ranked for a city in Phoenix, like Scottsdale? Would we have to do the same thing as say Tucson or LA?
The website would need to be relevant for the area for which he wishes to rank. Relevance can be established in numerous ways:

physical address as suggested above

mentions of the locations on the site

testimonials from clients in the area
-
links from the areas involved
-
anchor text using the area names
There are other means but the above area the major ideas.

Actually a single page can rank for multiple areas. It's up to you how you wish to present the site. For major areas which are far away such as Chicago and LA, you may want a specific page for those areas. For other Arizona areas, you may wish to continue using the home page. It really depends on your competitiveness and resources.

Many business models would like to increase their visibility in local searches. Imagine a web developer who can design sites for anyone located anywhere in the country. They would love to be seen as "Web development Miami", "Web development Los Angeles", etc.
To have your site associated with the areas you mentioned, the first step would be to provide content related to those areas. A travel schedule mentioning the areas which will be visited is a start. Even better would be pages of the site dedicated to each city would be even better. "Artful Tailoring will be providing services in Chicago November 1st - 10th." then provide an itinerary including locations and times. Mention any customers you have serviced in the area, and if possible receive backlinks from local customers to your Chicago page.
Your client is currently listed as the #5 result in Google for "custom clothing Phoenix" and that is his main location. I would expect the Chicago results to be more competitive, and your client is much less established in that area. He will most likely be able to earn a listing but not on the first page of results. To improve I would recommend establishing a physical presence in Chicago. The least expensive option would be a virtual office. Your client can obtain a local Chicago address and phone number, then obtain a Google Places listing. This method would further strengthen your association with the area.

One domain or two for one company with two lines of business?
Let's say you are building a new company that is involved in two lines of business. Let's for example say one line of business is handling logistics for large conventions where the customer(s) are large corporation and the other line is for wedding planning. Let's say that for certain reasons the owner wants to operate under one brand name, say "PROEVENT" So they will market themselves as PROEVENT Convention Logistics and PROEVENT Wedding Planners. From an SEO perspective, if you have one side of the business doing B-to-B corporate business and the other doing B-to-C do you create two different websites on different domains (proeventconventions.com and proeventweddings.com) with unique design and content, or, do you just use provent.com in order to build better domain authority and on your marketing you use conventions.provent.com that takes you to the convention section of the website and weddings.provent.com takes you to the weddings section?

Can someone help me understand why this page is ranking so well?
Hi everyone, EDIT: I'm going to link to the actual page, please remove if there are any issues with confidentiality. Here is the page: https://www.legalzoom.com/knowledge/llc/topic/advantages-and-disadvantages-overview It's ranking #2 on Google for "LLC" This page is a couple months old and is substantially heavy in content, but not much more so than all the dozens of other pages online that are competing with it. This is a highly competitive industry and this particular domain is an extremely huge player in this industry. This new page is suddenly ranking #2 for an extremely competitive head term, arguably the most important/high volume keyword being targeted by the entire site. The page is outranking the home page, as well as the service page that exactly targets the query - the one that you would think would be the ranking page for this head term. However, this new page is somewhat of a spin-off with some additional related content about the subject, some videos, resources, a lot of internal links, etc. The first word of the title tag exactly matches the head term. I did observe that almost no other pages on the site have the exact keyword as the first word of the title tag, but that couldn't be sufficient to bring it up so high in the ranks, could it? Another bizarre thing that is happening is that Google is ignoring the Title Tag in the actual HTML (which is a specific question that is accurate to the content on the page), and re-assigning a title tag that basically looks like this: "Head Term | Brand." Why would it do this on this page? Doesn't it usually prefer more descriptive title tags? There are no external links coming up on Moz or Majestic pointing to this page. It has just a couple social shares. It's not being linked to from the home page or top nav bar on the main site. Can anyone explain how this particular page would outrank the main service page targeting this keyword, as well as other highly authoritative, older pages online targeting the same keyword? The Wrong Page Is Still The Only One Ranking
For some reason, the search term "Tampa Personal Injury Attorney," shows this page of our's http://www.kempruge.com/personal-injury/ on the second page, but omits this page http://www.kempruge.com/tampa-personal-injury-attorney/ (the correct one). The correct one only shows up in omitted results. I have posted this question before. I made the changes suggested to me, and it actually worked for a couple weeks. But, it reverted back. I tried for the last two months to fix this on my own, but I just can't figure it out. Does anyone have any idea what to do here? Incredibly appreciative of any assistance, Ruben

Will an RSS feed help new product get indexed? How to create one for product?
Hi I've read that creating an RSS feed for one of our ecommerce sites will help the products get indexed faster. Currently it takes google 4-5 days to index our new products, we want to speed that up. Will an RSS feed of the new products we have help? How do you create an RSS feed for this? Our blog gets indexed within minutes, but our main website, 4 days. Help!

Rankings Dropped
Hello, I wonder if anyone can point us in the right direction. Our main domain name has got a good SEO profile the domain is 12 years old and we have some good reputable links. On the 7th of Jan our website dropped in the rankings from 3rd to 10th for one of our main keywords and from then onwards some of our other keywords have dropped. We have a lot of landing pages that target specific keywords which look like a template page but just with the content changed. Can anyone pin point what could of caused this problem or has anyone experienced this before and knows how to fix it. I personally think we have been hit by the panda. Thanks, Scott
