What's the best theme for seo if you are going to use yoast anyway
-
I am going to edit my theme myself so I don't need something like thesis for that. But people say that the thesis framework is amazing for seo, and it's hard to edit it manually. Does using the thesis theme do anything for you if you are going to use yoast anyway?
Thanks
William

Hello crvw, thanks for the info.
1. I guess what I am getting at is that let's say I don't like the way thesis or genesis looks, or any of their available themes and I plan on having a programmer completely edit the template to change the way it looks, is it better to start with the thesis or geneis framework-than say the yoast blank seo optimized template for example?
2. Why would people change from thesis because of that? Just curious. Thanks so much

Hey William,
You didn't say explicitdly in your post but based on the plugins and themes you are discussing, I'll assume you are asking about Themes for Wordpress.
Selecting the right theme is still very important, even if you are going to use a solid SEO plugin like Wordpress SEO from Joost de Valk (Visit plugin site)
For starters the plugin doesn't let you control every element you might want to optimize. Such as specifying what content on a page get's H1 tags, etc...
The plugin won't influence how fast your site is, how big the pages are, etc... (it does have some useful minification features but it's far better to start with an efficient page). You also want your theme to provide good code for multiple page posts, standards compliance, etc... So a good theme is essential.
Thesis is a good framework, has a solid SEO structure, and is very popular. There have been some intellectual property disputes with Thesis and Wordpress that have resulted in a number of people moving to other options. Genesis is another great framework, from the good people at CopyBlogger.com, http://www.studiopress.com/. It's very strong from an SEO standpoint, it lets you use all the other excellent CopyBlogger tools, StudioPress child themes, etc...
You probably can't go wrong with Genesis or Thesis.

Canonical URL's For Two Domains
We have two websites, one we use for Google PPC (website 1) and one (website 2) we use for everything else. The reason is we are in an industry that Google Adwords doesn't like, so we built a whole other website that removes the product descriptions as Google Adwords doesn't approve of many of them (nutrition). Right now we have that Google Adwords approved website (website 1) no-index/no-follow because we didn't want to run into potential duplicate content issues in free search, but the issue is we can't submit it to Google Shopping...as they require it to be indexable. Do you think removing the no-index/no-follow from that website 1 and adding canonical URL's pointing to website 2 would resolve this issue (being able to submit it to Google Shopping) and not cause any problems with duplicate content? I was thinking of adding the canonical tag to all pages of website 1 and point it to website 2. Does that make sense? Do you think that would work?

Re: Inbound Links. Whether it's HTTP or HTTPS, does it still go towards the same inbound link count?
Re: Inbound Links. If another website links to my website, does it make a difference to my inbound link count if they use http or https? Basically, my site http://mysite.com redirects to https://mysite.com, so if another website uses the link http://mysite.com, will https://mysite.com still benefit from the inbound links count? I'm unsure if I should reach out to all my inbound links to tell them to use my https URL instead...which would be rather time consuming so just checking http and https counts all the same. Thanks.

How can I get a list of every url of a site in Google's index?
I work on a site that has almost 20,000 urls in its site map. Google WMT claims 28,000 indexed and a search on Google shows 33,000. I'd like to find what the difference is. Is there a way to get an excel sheet with every url Google has indexed for a site? Thanks... Mike

Google's Structured Data Testing Tool? No Data
I'm stumped as to why some of the pages on my website return no data from Google's Structured Data Testing Tool while other pages work fine and return the appropriate data. My home page http://www.parkseo.net returns no data while many inner pages do. http://www.parkseo.net Returns No Data http://www.parkseo.net/citation-submission.html Does Return Data. I have racked my brains out trying to figure out why some pages return data and others don't. Any help on this issue would be greatly appricated. Cheers!

Our site has been penalized and it's proving to be very hard to get our rankings back...
So I have a question. We have used nearly every trick in the book to rank our site, including a ton of white hat stuff.... but then also a lot of black hat practices that resulted in us dropping in the rankings by about 30-40 positions. And getting back to where we were (top 10 for most keywords) is proving to be nearly impossible. We have a ton of great content coming off of the site and we actually offer a quality product. We follow most of the guidelines advocated here on SEOmoz. But the black hat stuff we did has really taken a toll. And it's gonna be pretty much impossible to go back in time and erase all of the Black Hat stuff we did. So what should we do? Should we design a completely new website with a new domain? What can be done to help?

Do EMD's give the boost everyone says they do?
Hi, I have used a few myself and if I was targeting UK search with a [emd] .co.uk, every time the domain has hit page 1 with little effort. I have done this maybe 4-5 times, my moz stats show 0 but I rank above results on page 1 with moz stats of DA:45+. Can I now say basically any EMD I buy will rocket through the serp's?

What's a good place for a copywriter to start researching the more technical aspects of SEO?
I've been working as a copywriter for about a year and a half now and I feel like the more advanced SEO topics (rel= tags, .htaccess files, etc) are a bit over my head. Is there a website where I can read up on all of these things? I have a basic understanding of them but I couldn't talk about them for very long, and I want to become more well rounded as a search marketer. Thanks!!
