H1 and title tags
-
Should they be different
-
A lot of great responses to this from great contributors. Here is another point of view. (Full disclosure: We have sites each way).
If you consider a title a title and a heading a heading, the H1 would be different, but still on subject. I know of no empirical data that states a slightly differing H1 is a negative from an SEO perspective but keyword usage in H1 may provide some benefit. If the title is Used Cars Denver, to me, it makes no sense from a writing perspective to make the H1 Used Cars Denver. I think a reader gets that the title brought her here, so you use a variant in the first part (H1) of the content: Used Cars Denver - Under 10,000 miles. You still have your keyword, but you are giving the reader (searcher) more depth in the next paragraph.
Obviously, the H2 could be Used Cars Denver - 10001 to 25,000, etc.
Even though we do it, I think part of it is driven by tools we use for keyword optimization on page (think SEOmoz Pro Onpage Optimization Grader) as opposed to what might be more readable or potentially more SEO friendly. Yes, I know about keywords in the H1, etc. but I do not think you have to match the title tag. I think it has to make sense from a reading perspective or you are just being redundant. Again, we do both... But, maybe I will revisit this

Simon and Egol are spot on. No argument from me
They should both be describing the same content. They need not be the exact same, but should not be off topic.
-
I think they should be slightly different. Obviously on a case by case basis, but I tend to have more content in my page title then in the H1. I do start my page titles with the H1 but I may include a strong brand name or even a call to action in an effort to increase CTR. It's also good practice to match H1 with page name / URL.
Something like this:
Men's Watches | Overstock.com: Buy Watches Online
Men's Watches | Amazon.com: Omega, citizen, Cartier, Tag Heuer ...
Mens Watches And Watches For Men For The Holidays At - Macy's
-
throwing my 2cents in... I do exactly this as well. We also name the images on the page the same
-
I agree. If not exactly the same then the H1 should at least match the start of the page Title, they should both reflect the main theme/topic of the page.
-
(this question could start an argument!)
In my opinion they should be the same.
When your title appears in the SERPs that is what visitors are expecting - so give it to them.

How does Google treat Dynamic Titles?
Let's say my website can be accessed in only 3 states Colorado, Arizona and Ohio. I want to display different information to each visitor based on where they are located. For this I would also like the title to change based on their location. Not quite sure how Google we treat the title and rank the site.... Any resources you can provide would be helpful. Thanks

Keywords on Title Tag and Meta Description?
I have question regarding the use of keywords on title tag and meta description. I will take my website as example... Title Tag: Web Design Company & Digital Marketing Agency in Jakarta Meta Description: Coriate is a full-service website design & Internet marketing firm in Indonesia. We offer the best web solutions and SEO service in the industry. My questions: Is it good? Because I followed Blue Fountain Media. They don't use same keyword on title tag and meta description. You can see on title tag I use "web design" while on meta description I use "website design". Or should I use "web design" on meta description too? Blue Fountain Media doesn't use their company name on title tag. But when I search "Blue Fountain Media" on Google, it only showed their company name. How? Their title tag was "Website Design Company & Digital Marketing Agency in NYC | BFM". Is it necessary to use H1? Because as you can see on my company website Coriate there's no H1.

Do you say Browser Title or Page Title?
I have seen much more use of "Page Title" of late....in fact hardly any of "Browser Title" except by some folks who are using a very old CMS. We need to go with one at my workplace to avoid confusion. My vote is Page Title. Thoughts? Thanks, Tim

Alt and title tags on images
For SEO, are alt and title tags still worth the effort? Or have they gone the way of meta keywords? I can see having alt tags for visually impaired reasons, but at this point is there any SEO reason to use them?

H1 tags the same on all pages - problem?
I generally use wordpress as a CMS and have the H1 tag coded in the header.php include file. This results as it being the same in all page - I normally do something like Keyword - Company name and set the company logo as the background and move the text off screen using text indent (CSS). Is having the same on every page a bad thing? I might be tricky to change so their all unique.
