How Can You Get the Most out of Attending Mozcon?
-
Do you have any suggestions or tips for getting the most out of attending a Mozcon conference or marketing conferences in general?
-
And you can get a taste of what you missed at MozCon with the videos, now available at http://moz.com/blog/the-2013-mozcon-video-bundle-is-live

I found this excellent presentation with actionable tips for networking at conferences: Networking at Conferences - YouTube http://bit.ly/12hyjAz

Great tips! Thanks Sha and I hope to meet you at Mozcon.
-
Woohoo! Awesome
-
Drink loads of cask ale. Loads of it.
-
I use Google Plus far less but am interested in changing that so I joined. Good idea!
-
Wow - these are great suggestions Sha!
I'll be attending and would love to personally meet each of you. Please reach out and say hi.
For those of you that use Google+ more than Facebook, I created a group for attendees (there wasn't one when I created it) and would love for you to join in the discussion: https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/100561346939918954614
Great thread!

oh you are SO right.
-
Actually, the videos were included in the MozCon ticket price this year, so all attendees will get them!
-
We do indeed have a Facebook Group for MozCon!
-
We actually only have 1 party this year, which is on Tuesday night. (Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.)
But there are plenty of folks doing other meetups and lots of fun Monday and Wednesday nights!
-
Hey Dana!
See you in Seattle

Hi Charles,
I would say
- Keep an eye on #Mozcon and connect with some people before you get to Seattle
- Stay over and take a Tour of the Mozplex
- Spend some real time checking out the Speaker photos on this page so you know who they are and what they look like...there is a real chance you will find yourself standing next to them in the lunch queue, sitting down to breakfast or lining up to sing Karaoke with them!
- Be at the conference early every day and try to sit with new people as well as catch up with friends you have already made.
- Read this post from Zeph , hit him up on Twitterand get him to hook you up for a spot at the informal Meetup on the night before the conference
- Make a list of awesome people that you would like to meet while there and keep it close handy
- Make a donation to the Myrtle Point Library in honor of Michael Cottam's parents at the conference and help send love to Michael and his family from everyone in the Moz "family"
- Get some tips on where to find the Best coffee in Seattle from Jonathon Coleman
- Arm yourself with Rand's Restaurant and Bar Guide to Seattle and the The Not-so-Short Shortlist of Moz's Top Seattle Restaurants, Bars, and Activities for MozCon 2013
- Bring business cards and make sure you make notes on the cards people give you so you can easily put names to faces and shared experiences when you get home.
Oh...and you might consider joining a PosSEO, becoming a PosSEM or something like that, but whatever you do, say G'day!

Thanks everyone for the tips. I believe there is a Facebook page and the video access will be complimentary for attendees again this year.
-
Last year the videos from MozCon were given to all attendees as a "consolation" for the Wi-Fi being so bad. I don't anticipate Wi-fi will be an issue this year, so the videos are probably going to cost some pretty serious bucks...My advice? Buy them. I have referred back to presentations multiple times over the year because they were so packed with information that it sometimes takes (me at least) a couple times through to fully absorb what's there. Buy the videos. They are worth every penny.

I've heard the Seattle Underground tour is awesome. I might have to do it this time around!
-
Fun idea Jesse...although to be perfectly modern SEOs shouldn't we call it #possem ?
-
This forum is as good a resource as any for a pre-con meetup.
I'll be there. Let's get a drink and form a kickass SEO posse! WHO'S IN!
We could call it "The Posseo?"
Just spit-balling here
Follow me @SEOjesseO and maybe we can start a #posseo

The last conference I attended (Blueglass Tampa) had a facebook post where everyone who would be attending could introduce themselves if they chose to. It was a great way learn about those you might be sitting next to at the the lunch table or the bar. Unfortunately I won't be at Mozcon, but I'd certainly recommend creating a resource such as that well before the conference starts.
-
I was going to say the same thing. Also bring business cards. Make a friend, not an acquaintance. There will be 1 party after each Moz day. You can meet people there too. Last time I was at MozCon I stayed the weekend and took the Seattle Underground Tour. Explore Seattle, it's cheap. Oh, use the lunch time to mingle.
-
I recommend getting to know in advance other people who will be going to the conference. You can ask in the community forum, on Twitter or Facebook some months in advance. This will enable you to seek them out in person and will avoid the common "hazard" of meeting someone with different professional interests.

Roger, Can You Please Help Get Me in Mozcon?
I am a newbie to amazing tools like Moz! Yup, I joined in December and there is no looking back and no regrets. Well, until now. Here’s my sad story. I have been hearing about Mozcon for months. And I have told a number of colleagues that I am definitely going to that! Especially since I have two reasons to go all the way to the Northwest in July… My 21YO son is a competitive snowboarder and video blogger living at Mt. Hood during the summer. I can visit him and go to Seattle for Mozcon.

When I checked the site for cost and tickets, the early bird incentive had already expired, so I figured I would pick up my ticket in July. I went ahead and booked the hotel and airfare from North Carolina. So, I am all set.
At the beginning of the month, I go to buy the ticket and they are SOLD OUT!
OMG!
I am already coming and there are no tickets for sale.
I had no idea that a workshop at the big Seattle convention center would sell out.
I know you guys are cool and that you have a super connected following, but SOLD OUT?
I had no idea. I wait listed myself, but I have heard nothing.
So… I am at the crossroads here…
ROGER! Can you please find just one more ticket for the newbie in North Carolina??
Please...
Please help if you can. So disappointed in NC~ Terry0 -

Whos going to Mozcon next month
Off topic question. Who's going to Mozcon next month and whats on the agenda for the Tuesday evening before the event starts? Anyone interested in having a meet and greet and talking shop over drinks or dinner the Tuesday before (July 24th)?

Who is Mozcon for?
Hello! I own and operate an online retail store for batteries. Basically, I live and die on search engine ranking. I have been working with two well established SEO companies that have significantly strengthened my standings in both Bing and Google search engines. I have a good understanding of SEO and the various aspects that it is comprised of. My question to you guys - should I attend Mozcon? Is this event geared more towards marketing companies or is there any potential for a small SEO savvy business owner to attend? Stepping away from my company for four days is a rather large commitment at the current moment - I need to be certain this event is worth it for someone like me. Any thoughts? Mozcon Questions
Hello All, I'm a total newbie to SEOmoz and am totally addicted. I'm seriously considering going to Seattle Mozcon. I would really like to hear some feedback from newbies who went last year. It would be really nice to hear if you learned a lot and if you have incorporated some of your Mozcon education into your SEO strategy. It looks to be a pretty long event and every day seems to be completely filled with things I probably don't want to miss. That said, it would be a really large investment of my time. Is it worth all this time? Thanks!

MozCon Question: When are you getting rates for hotel lodging?
So any word on the Westin Hotel pricing? Paying USD 340 /night is too much!
