Wordpress: Should your blog posts be noindex?
-
Wordpress defaults all blog posts to no index/nofollow
Is this how it should be handled? I understand the nofollow from the page.com/blog to the page.com/blog/blogtitle
But why noindex? We have Yoast installed and this is the default.

Great! Best of luck, Courtney.

If your blog posts are substantive in length and do not contain duplicate content then I would index/follow them. A good blog post on a popular topic can bring in a lot of traffic.
Category pages can also be set to index/follow if they contain very short excerpts of the blog posts and if they each have enough content to be substantive. When a blog is new and you have just one or two posts per category, each consisting of a short excerpt then I would not index them. What you can do is wait until you have several posts in a category before you start a category page.
A superior method of category page treatment, in my opinion, is to create a page that present all of your posts in a organization that is more logical the chronological default that you get in wordpress. Get a great image for each post and create a page that has your best posts, most popular posts, most recent posts presented for the visitor. New visitors should see your best or your most popular. Returning visitors want the new stuff. If there are posts that you want everyone to see they can be placed in a prominent position. This page can be rearranged if there is something hot in the news and you want to call attention to your writing on that topic. This will be a growing adaptive page that is much more visitor friendly than the chronological.

You blog posts should be indexed and followed. It may just be the default so development pages do not get indexed by search engines.
I would recommend using no index tags on the various category, archive, and tags pages that are created when using a WP blog. These pages can lead to a lot of duplicate content problems.

Noindex meta tag
Hi When following Webmaster Tools/Optimization/HTML Improvements it says that we have duplicate title tags and duplicate meta descriptions for hundreds of pages, As corrective action we have added to those pages and also changed title tags to make sure that they are different but still Webmaster keeps reporting that the duplication exist. Is it possible that google bot doesn't see our noindex code while crawling? By the way our seomoz report says that there is no duplicate title tag or meta description on our site google has crawled our site today and we received our report from seomoz today thanks

Subdomain for a blog
My client has a site hosted with a company that allows very little customization including I am unable to add a blog to the site. As he has a fair amount of time & money invested in the site, he is reluctant to start over. So my question is this. His blog is currently hosted off site, would it benefit him if I had them add a cname or a record to show his blog at blog.mydomain.com? Or does Google recognize that it is still a separate site and treat it as such? Finally does it matter how they set it up cname, a record or redirect? This is definitely not my area of expertise (if that is not already obvious from the question!). Thanks for your help! Matthew

E-Commerce site and blogs
We have e-Commerce site and an official blog to give advice about our products. This blog exists under our domain. Usually we build links directly to our site. Recently our ranking started going down. Also, we have been experiencing backlash for spam based on our link building (we are working on this, including a change of staff, but we cannot be sure that this will not happen again). This backlash has come through our social networking outlets (Facebook) in the form of very negative posts to our pages. One of our "SEOs" has devised a plan to use secondary blogs which we would start building links for. This blog would contain links back to our website. The idea is that the blog acts as a gate in a sense, in this way backlash is either posted on the blog or is directed at the blog. Also, we would be attempting to raise the page authority of these secondary blogs so in essence they act as high page authority links back to our website. The concern is that these secondary blogs may undermine the legitimacy of the official primary blog, which is still in its early stages as far as ranking and authority goes. Also, we are concerned that this technique would further undermine the legitimacy of the website itself by creating a larger "spam-like" presence, since visitors may see through the use of the secondary link through blogs.
