Google still showing sitelinks from old website
-
Hi guys, we relaunched our website www.segafredo.com.au a few weeks ago, however google is still showing site links from our old page that no longer exist...
Is there anything we can do about this? Sit back and wait or try demoting the old urls in webmaster tools?
Looking forward to see your tips!
Ciao,
Manny.

Once you do the 301's, the sitelinks will resolve to your site even if nothing else changes. Most likely, over a small amount of time, the sitelinks will change a bit given the new site.
Best to you, Manny,
Robert

Hi guys thanks for your help, i've made a list and forwarded it to our Italian friends...let the waiting commence!
Do you think this will make a change in site links (the once shown under your index results)? And are there any other ways of influencing the links that show up?
ps. Robert thanks so much for your help, i appreciate you going out of your way to explain
I'll keep you posted.
Ciao,
Manny.

GET ALL OF YOUR OLD URL ADDRESS with mentioned methods, via backlinks, and via existing flawed google sitelinks, get as many of them as you can. then 301 them to appropriate new equivalent pages on the new site.
and do not forget to submit a sitemap after you are set and done with all of above.
-
If not every yes, you can find most. Assuming the old site had nothing to do with their .com or .com.eu, etc.:
Can you get them to give you the access to the FTP? You can get most of the urls if not all from there.
Or,
You need to immediately go to archive.org, the wayback machine. You will see it on the page. I have attached a screenshot of one. I went to the homepage first as that is what Archive.org will serve up. I arbitrarily chose May to insure I was prior to relaunch. You should take the one that is most recent prior to relaunch.
Understand, I would prefer the FTP, but this could work too.
Hope that helps you out.

Hi Robert, the website was hosted there. We only had/have access to the domain itself of which the name servers have been changed to connect the new site.
I think getting access to the old site on the Italian host is going to be the hardest part (they don't like us accessing it for some reason)
Is there a way i can find every url that needs to be redirected so i can send this link to them in order to get the redirections we need?
-
Manny,
Just so you know. It has to be there given the old url is showing. So the site was hosted there and now you are hosting it, correct?
I have to believe you can get it all. If not LMK, and I will try and assist.
Best

Oh sh*t...
Thanks for your response Robert. Unfortunately the old site was hosted and managed by Segafredo Italy. We never had access to it. I think i will pull out my best Italian and call them. Starting from scratch would not be ideal...
I'll let you know how we get on.
Thanks so much,
Ciao. Manny.

It appears you did not 301 your urls from the old site to the new when you were in Development. Now, you literally have the same url twice. I followed the sitelink for Coffee by Segafredo and landed on Segafredo.com.au/coffee/ see screenshot with Segafredo from sitelink. Then, in a new window, I went to the domain link you provided and added /coffee/ and got the second image.
When you design a new site you need to insure you take care of the url's from the previous so as to maintain the link juice from each. I believe the one with the beans actually has a PA of 36. the new one has a PA of 1. You need this link juice or you will lose all your rankings. EDIT TO ADD EMPHASIS - Do not wait, you need to act now.
You are using IIS and you need to follow the how to's for 301's on an IIS server. You can still fix this. Where is the other site hosted? Do you still have it, the FTP files, etc.?
Let me know and I will give you some direction.
Best, Robert

What Google Analytics Data to Share with Potential Website Buyer
Hi Mozzers,
Industry News | | emerald
We have contacted our competitors to let them know we would like to sell our website (domain and all content). One of them has asked for Google Analytics data. Which parts of this and how is this data best shared in such a case? As this is the opening of offers, I'm assuming some kind of PDF export with a summary of some Analytics data is sufficient to see who is serious. Then for those who are serious more data could be shared. Or is it ever ok to share your full Analytics with a competitor? Would love to hear what data and best practises are used to share this kind of information. Thank you.0 -
Will editorial links with UTM parameters marked as utm_source=affiliate still pass link juice?
Occasionally some of our clients receive editorial mentions and links in which the author adds utm parameters to the outbound links on their blog. The links are always natural, never compensated, and followed. However, they are sometimes listed as utm_source=affiliate even thought we have no existing affiliate relationship with the author. My practice has been to ask the author to add a rel="norewrite" attribute to the link to remove any trace of the word affiliate. I have read that utm parameters do not affect link juice transfer, however, given the inaccurate "affiliate" source, I wouldn't want Google to misunderstand and think that we are compensating people for followed editorial links. Should I continue following this practice, or is it fine to leave these links as they are? Thanks!

Penguin 2.0 Update - Just Hit - Google Messes up again, can anyone on SEOMOZ please tell me why or how some of these websites are ranking?
I am getting a bit tired now writing all of this so please excuse grammar and spelling mistakes, I wanted to post this up quickly tonight so I could possibly get some feedback by morning. So I feel I figured out some of the new update that just hit and I am sure the update will continue to keep coming and rankings will most likely change for a while, but I do have a few questions in the mean time if they stay. Please look below, why would some of those sites be ranking? Some sites utilize no onpage SEO, some no backlinks, one of the sites is a single page site and every page is a broken link even the contact us page and it's rank 1..... I am not 100% sure that Google got this one right. I see many instances below where other sites are much higher quality and have more authority. It's as if Google took terrible sites and said here is a site for you, now deal with it and I hope it works out at the top. I do see several sites that belong on the first page, but I see others that are very questionable. This is how the following is written below. Before the url is the anchor text density % for the site. This indicates the percentage of the amount of times the anchor text was backlined versus other anchor texts they used. Issues with the sites. Most of these sites don't utilize onpage SEO and it's clearly not a factor for onpage density purposes, there is a site with 37% keyword density on it. Some sites even have broken links. Please note: I already know that there is a lot of data that is analyzed to determine rankings more than this, but PA/DA is suppose to be a major factor according to everyone that believes in SEOMOZ.org. So I am taking in account for many of those factors being calculated due to this. These are just some random keywords I picked, because I know you need to analyze other SEO firms after and update to figure out what lasted and what didn't. All of my sites lasted due to ethical tactics, but I had some rankings move down and others go up, very odd. The onpage SEO is sloppy and the writing looks forced. Why is this even ranking? The site also looks low quality. The density is higher than SEOMOZ even and it has less words. Has anybody used Yext or Universal Business Listings as an automated approach to getting clients into all of the many directories? If so does it work? Or does Google penalize in using these automated services?
I'm trying to figure out if using either Yext or Universal Business Listings is worth it. They have reseller programs for SEO agencies. I just am curious what other SEO folks think of these services as I'm considering using one of them to automate and save time for clients. If you go to Yext.com or universalbusinesslistings.org you can see these. Curious what others say about these. Thanks

Looking For Offline Software that Synchronizes with an E-commerce Website.
First of all, this isn't really SEO related. I can see this being an interesting discussion. One of my websites has a POS system that has an integrated eCommerce store where using a third party software you can sync the data that is in the pos directly to the website. You can add what products you want on the website with the (offline) software and add all the online product essentials such as product pictures, shipping weights, titles and ECT. I am looking for a shopping cart system that is an offline software that you would install on your PC and basically add everything offline and then sync like the other software but without the pos. It would basically be like eBay turbo Lister but instead of eBay it would be your website...obliviously. I have been looking for a while now and can't seem to find anything. Is there such a thing? I know this would be kick ass platform to develop and I have everything mapped out how to do it if there isn't one out there. Looking for insight.

How to achieve the highest global and local relevance in google?
Let's say I have a company that has its main business in Europe for thefollowing languages: English German Portugese French Italian And let's say some other markets (e.g. the Portugese one in south america) is also important. The question now is how should we structure the Domain if we want onlyone top level domain (www.company.com)? a) By using subdomains to target users with Google Webmaster Tools for the relevant country: portugal.company.com/pt (same content) brasil.company.com/pt (same content) germany.company.com/de england.company.com/en etc. or b) by using virtual folders www.company.com/pt www.company.com/de www.company.com/en
