Measuring the lead that come from Organic Search
-
Hello,
One of my clients wants to know how many leads he gets from the organic search, he has Affiliate ID's for the Social media and for his affiliate websites, but now he wants to know how many leads he gets from the organic search.
According to his affiliate program there are some leads without affiliate ID's but not all of them from the organic search big part of those leads are from "refer a friend program" and leads that were entered the system manually.
Is there anyway in Google Analytics or any other program that can track the leads who come to my client website from searching for the brand name or concepts/long tails and registered/opened a new account ?

Hi Joni
I was also going to recommend setting up events/goals as Chris mentioned. The goal gets tracked as a metric, so you can view metrics for any traffic source. You would basically do it in one of two ways;
-
either have an event trigger when the "submit" button on the form is clicked
-
or use the "thank you" or "confirmation" landing page URL and set the event as a URL destination.
Then, once you have an event, you can turn any event into a Goal.
While it is true you can get this data for Organic Search traffic in one bucket, unfortunately due to "not provided" you won't be able to get accurate data by keyword.

Not directly. However you could implement an internal tracking method by looking at the referrer "google.com", "bing.com" and "yahoo.com" (+ any other major source you would like to track) and then set a session variable to track the visitor around the site and finally, if he/she converts you can fire an Analytics event based on that session variable.

You can look into setting up goals and track some of the funnels for it, more info :

I hope that helps.

Reasons for drop in organic traffic
Hi, We are seeing a 20% drop in organic traffic since 1st May. We did not see any discussions about algorithm update from Google around this date on Moz, so this post. For us several activities happened around this date because of which we are unable to understand the % drop we should attribute to these related factors. We will appreciate if you could let us know how much % you would attribute to each of these factors. 1. Site had some issues and was down for 3-4 hours.

2. To reduce the load site was blocked for all IP's other than our country for three days
3. Google sent us an alert - Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs on your site. (Most of these pages are no indexed or have a canonical)
4. Banner advertisements on publisher websites that linked to our site via affiliate URL reduced by 60% It will also help if you could provide suggestions to avoid such a drop. Thanks Kaushal0 -
How to flag inbound affiliate links to Search Engines
Afternoon Mozzers, I was chatting to our VP of marketing earlier about one of our sites with a somewhat unhealthy looking link profile. This is primarily caused by the sector its in and the fact that lots of low quality lead generators / affiliates operate there, sending traffic to us in return for payment on accepted leads. Now, he recalled that there is a way to mark these inbound links, through a URL parameter he thought, as being affiliates and therefore should be ignored as we don’t want them misinterpreted as an attempt to manipulate our rankings. I have been doing a spot of research but can't find a straight answer. heres a few articles i looked at: blogaid, Yoast, Webmaster world and the Moz Q&A.The problem is all these are from the perspective of a site linking out and acting as an affiliate, so all deal with that page not losing PR. The two methods i have derived from this boil down to: No follow the links Use an intermediary redirect page and script which you can block from robots.txt So, back to our case - Are there any ways we can signal to Search engines, as the destination site, that these links are from affiliates (such as this URL parameter our VP had vague recollections off) or should i just get in touch and ask the sites to make them Nofollow? Thanks, Tom.

Duplicate tracking of Affiliate and Organic orders
I started diving into the over lap between Organic and affiliate orders and can see that on average about 10% of my organic orders get tracked as both affiliate and organic (meaning i am paying affiliate commissions on them). I want to be able to better account for the different types of order and where they are coming from. My question is simply if anyone has any ideas as to how better to figure out if those orders should be canceled on the affiliate end or if there is a better way in analytics to see where the order is actually getting attributed to through some type of goal or advanced set up or something (the download of orders from organic that I compared to the affiliate ones was taken from Ecommerce > Transactions > Medium (Organic) then I compared that to the order numbers from the affiliate company I am using). Hope this makes sense and thanks for any information that can help with this!

In search of the perfect SEO affiliate ID'd URL
Hi, I'm building an affiliate system for our website, and I obviously want to gain as much SEO benifit from it as possible. So I am wondering what the optimal solution is with regard to how an affilaite URL is tagged. After looking into it a bit more - I have come up with the following. 1/. Use an affilaite URL idendifier with a #
Affiliate Marketing | | James77
EG like www.mysite.com#123 2/. 301 redirect the affilaite URL to the "real URL"
EG www.mysite.com#123 301 -> www.mysite.com What do you think of this? Thanks0 -

My thoughts after doing a bit of research are to do the following - using the # as my identifier: 1/. Use an ID like www.mysite.com/#A123 2/. Redirect via 301 these urls to www.mysite.com Any thoughts on this, or other things I should be thinking of with regard so building an affilaite system that has strong SEO benifits? Thanks
