SEO and Server Connectivity....
-
Good Morning/Evening Mozzers,
I arrive at work this morning with 5 emails from GWT for my separate domains reading,
**"Googlebot can't access your site - **Over the last 24 hours, Googlebot encountered 39 errors while attempting to connect to your site. Your site's overall connection failure rate is 15.1%."
I have passed this on to the Web Dev team to resolve ASAP.
My Question, will server connectivity issues harm my rankings? Is there a danger if this continues that URL's could be de-indexed?
Input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for responding guys....
After some back and forth and research from the Web Dev team, turns out our hosts messed up when upgrading RAM to our host server.....site was down for 3 hours overnight.
All appears to be fine now but will keep my eyes peeled.
Thanks

Hey,
I was working with a site recently who's host suffered a number of issues over a few days, enough to receive a few warnings in GWT - and yes there was a hit to the rankings in the short term. However once their host got their game together the rankings did creep back up, although it took around a month of normal up-time for the ranking to largely recover.
As Greg says i'd definitely ensure you're on a good host, server downtime should be the last thing you need to be worrying about!
All the best,
Stuart

Yes it does effect your rankings.
I cant say how much, but is definately a factor that Google considers when ranking your pages.
Make sure you are using a reliable host as not only Google gets mad when pages become unavailable.
Greg

Are provincial third-level domains bad for SEO?
My prospect's domain ends in ".on.ca" (Ontario, Canada). The structure of their site is companyname.on.ca (main page) and all other pages are sub-folders (companyname.on.ca/page-name-1 All pages are no more than two levels deep. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the provincial sub-domain (.on.ca) presents an SEO challenge?

Location of body text on page - at top or bottom - does it matter for SEO?
Hi - I'm just looking at the text on a redesigned homepage. They have moved all the text to the very bottom of the page (which is quite common with lots of designers, I notice - I usually battle to move the important text back up to the top). I have always ensured the important text comes at the top, to some extent - does it matter where on the page the text comes, for SEO? Are there any studies you can point me to? Thanks for your help, Luke

How do I deal with old software on my server?
I am currently running an old software called gallery2 on my website. I used it for years to showcase some of the work I have done. I switched over to Next Gen gallery some time ago, but I still have my gallery 2 online. Gallery 2 isn't really available on my website anymore unless people find it through search engines. The only reason I didn't delete it years ago was because I didnt know how that would effect my rankings. At the moment its not working...and instead of figuring out why, Id like to go ahead and remove it. How should I deal with any dead links? The problem is that I had a few hundred photos on gallery, so there will be an overwhelming number of dead links. I was thinking of making a new page on my site and just put all of my NextGen galleries on the page... and then just 301 everything that was located at /gallery2 to my new gallery page. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Tim

Does redesigning a website affects SEO results
We have a website and we are getting good traffic to it. Its a travel related domain registered many years back. Now its ranking high for most of the potential keywords even if it is not at all SEO friendly (Domain is an exact match keyword). We are planning to redesign it. Will that affect the SEO Ranking? We need to ask some more doubts: 1. When redesigning we are planning to change the inner page URL. So it it wise to redirect (301) old URL to the new URL? Old url will not be there after redesigning. But its currently having page ranks. 2. Can we redirect more than one old url to a single new page? 3. Google new updates said "they will be going to diminish the exact match results domains". Does that updates affects us? 4. Any more suggestions for the redesigning?

I need to buy a website template with seo focus - any tip? what technology is better?
Due to lack of resources, my company usually buys website templates and we adjust it internally. So we can always be with new designs, spending less money. With all this changes of google panda recently, I will change my website again. Usually we buy then from templatemonster, but some templates are far away from seo standards. Do you have tips where to buy than? Should I search for a specific technology or layout? Is this JS Animated website a goog choice?

How about some SEO tips for small local businesses
The amount of time I hear people say write good content and people will naturally link to you. I appreciate this must be valid for large websites that a driven by content. However, it doesn't really hold much hope for smaller businesses with just service information etc. I work for a small business that does web design in the UK. However, I'm finding it difficult to do any sort of link building. In my opinion nobody is going to link to any of our content naturally or if it is, its going to be small time. Our rankings have dropped slightly (only to 4th in our local county). I've done the following thinks to try get it back up there but its having little or no results. Adding us to local business directories External Articles on site Cleaned up some duplicate title tags. What link building can I do? Is link building the home page sometimes not always the way to go? What content can I write that google will like? See what I mean? My rankings did climb a little bit but then dropped straight back down to their original places 2 weeks later. Help would be appreciated.
