Comparing Domain Authority Scores
-
Since your scale (like PageRank) is a logarithmic scale, it makes it hard to judge the distance between 2 scores. Can you give me a rule of thumb. For PageRank, each jump is an exponential jump - so that a PR6 is perhaps 10 times stronger than a PR5.
What is the log base that SEOMoz uses. Should I assume that a 60 is 10 times stronger than a 50?
This is important when it comes to measuring progress because growth is going to get more difficult as you move up the scale and I need to communicate the distance between our current Authority score and our goal.
Thank You!

Talked to Dr. Matt, and he said that, if you just want an estimate, take the log (base 10). You'll get a value from zero to two that will be roughly linear, and then you can scale it up to whatever range you need.

Hi Peter,
I have a follow up question to your reply; I want to try and use DA together with other linear metrics to create my own value that I can use for different purposes.
Considering your answer above it seems to me, and I have very little mathematical knowledge, that there is no exact log base I can use to get an "exact" representation of what a DA value is trying to express. Does that seem like a correct understanding?
Then, from a practical point of view, how would you recommend I convert DA values to a linear scale? Close enough is good enough i guess.
Thanks //David

I'm afraid the answer is "it's complicated" - here's the longer version, from Dr. Matt Peters, our head of Data Science:
"PA and DA are the output from a machine learning model that we then rescale to values between 1-100. The raw output from the model is dimensionless and doesn't have any interesting meaning. The rescaling is linear, but the inputs to the model are rescaled logarithmically before being used in the model. We use the natural log (base e) but the base is pretty arbitrary since one can transform from one base to another by changing coefficients, and the coefficients themselves are set in a regression. The key point is that since the inputs have a log applied to them it is much harder to increase DA from say 70 to 80 then it is from 30 to 40."

Spam Score shows No Contact Info even though I have a Contact Page
Hello, Open Site Explorer give me a Spam Flag for No Contact Info, but I have a Contact page (http://www.localwisejobs.com/contact/) Google has indexed my contact page. So that's not the problem. Any idea why I'm seeing this flag? Thanks!

NoFollow Links from Subdomain to root domain better than DoFollow Links?
Our service at fotograf.de is a shopsystem for professional photographers. The customers can build their own website with our tool including an onlineshop to sell their pictures. Here is my question: One part of the customers use subdomains of our site like photographers.fotograf.de. On each customer website we include a backlink to our homepage www.fotograf.de. From SEO view is it better to set these links as NoFollow Links? Or should we put one Follow Link on the starting page on each site and on the other pages only NoFollow Link? Are these links bad for our SEO regarding link diversity because they all come from one root domain? Thanks for the answers! Sebastian

How to handle 2 domains pointing to the same server.
My client has 2 domains which point to the same sever. eg a.com and b.com both point to the same place. For now a.com has better seo but the client wants to switch to using b.com more. Im guessing 301 redirects will not work in this case. How would I handle this? If i'm forced to manage both domains, what is the best practice for monitoring in seomoz pro. Should i set up a.com as a competitor?

How to Calculate % improvement in Mozrank and Domain Authority
I understand the concept that mozrank and Domain Authority are measured on a logarithmic scale . http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/mozrank I'm trying to determine the percentage improvement in the Logrithmic value. For example Original Domain Authority 60 Original Mozrank 5 End Domain Authority 63 End Mozrank 6. So 5% change in DA and 20% change in MozRank. How do we convert these numbers to the real logrithmic change?

Domain Authority: Sites with lower numbers get higher ranking.
We had a question about your online tools for http://pro.seomoz.org/campaigns/30642 The Domain Authority for http://pucherinsurance.com/ is 67: Higher than most of our competitors such as bluecross.ca which has a rank of 54. We show up lower in the actual search results. An example phrase would be Visitors to Canada health Insurance. We get an A grade for onsite reports and we are working on the duplicate content and titles. We appear to be doing everything right but still rank lower than expected. Any thoughts?
