Should I make a blog post or landing page to rank?
-
Hi,
I have some keywords (2-5 words) which I would like to rank for (and use them for AdWords campaigns). Also, I have some great and helpful content for those user queries to share. Now what is the better strategy?:
- Create a blog post for AdWords and later SEO rankings?
- Create a landing page for AdWords and later SEO rankings?
Would love to here your thoughts and experiences on this issue...
Best, Robin

Hey, great question about ranking, but let's back up for a minute. I think the content of the piece has more to do with the format than the desired ranking of that format. yes "Content is King" but only valuable & good content....
What is the content? Is it time sensitive? Is it a category? Do you plan on adding new information to this content? Do you want people to engage with it or take an action to benefit your company? What is the CTA?
Assuming you're using it for adwords, it has a direct business relation to your purpose. So I think it should be a static page on the site (or what you're referring to as a landing page) because blog posts typically allow for a wide variety of actions to be taken on the page whereas a strong PPC intended landing page will need to be more specific and directed. There might be a different type of page that works better for organic traffic than PPC traffic, but that should come from several rounds of testing.

Greetings! I think you're going to be better off creating an evergreen page that you can build trust to over time.
Because blog posts are off time-stamped Google may tend to ignore it as it gets stale. The exception would be if you were to, as Jimmy is suggesting, create a category page or something similar with unique content AND an aggregation of recent blog posts in that category. But you'd need both to keep it ranked over time.

I would definitely go with a blog and keep it updated. It will rank much faster (since you will have content and fresh content) compared to a landing page. "Content is King"...

How important is it to use a keyterm word-for-word to rank for that term?
I need your help to settle an argument here in our office. It boils down to improving our ranking for “driver education course Michigan.” One guy is convinced that if we want a site to rank for a multi-word keyterm like that, we need to use those exact words, in that order. He keeps creating pages with really awkward H1 titles and H2 subheadings using that exact phrase. H e claims appeal to search engines, but I think the cumbersome syntax is off-putting to any potential people who come to our site. Another guy claims that search engines are more sophisticated than that. He says we don’t need those exact words; it’s enough that the text on the page include “Michigan,” “driver education,” and “driver education course” a few times each. Even related terms like “drivers ed,” “driving school,” and “driver education classes” will help us to rank higher for “driver education course Michigan,” according to this guy. Neither of them can convince the other, and meanwhile I don’t know which to believe. Can you help?

Point an expired domain name to web page on website.
I've found an expired domain name with the words Electrical Inspection. its a .co.uk domain. Apparently this key word has a search query of over 1000 per 12 month. I was thinking of purchasing it and having it redirect to one of my pages which is for electrical installation condition reports which is basically an electrical inspection. Is it worth purchasing and pointing to the page on my website (redirect) and how can I go about making it known to google? submit to webmaster tools and create a blog to do with EICR's? thanks for any help and advice Kev ps I found it on https://www.expireddomains.net

Ranking a homepage for keywords
We recently found a handful of keywords we would like our homepage to rank for (for example - customer experience). On our homepage we have articles (4-5 posted daily) that feature the keywords we are targeting (one being customer experience). How do the keywords we are using in our daily articles that are posted to the homepage affect the overall keyword ranking for the homepage? In other words do the keywords used in the articles (title, first 2-3 paragraphs, meta description, etc.) all roll up/build up to the homepage's keywords or how does that work?

How reliable is GWT's keyword data & what is the most accurate way of determining keywords you currently rank for?
I have been monitoring the query data (keywords, average position, CTR, etc.) in GWT, but sometimes the ranking data seems off. I filter the dates for the past week, so it is the most recent. I manually check some of the rankings and they are way off. Does anyone have feedback on this? If you have access to multiple domain data, that would be great. What is the most accurate way of determining keywords you currently rank for? I have also used keywordspy, and that is off too!

How many keywords should I target per page / per site?
Hi, I am doing some keywords research and I just wanted to check my understanding of keyword theory. Is it best to select 1-2 keywords per page of the site? Or should you target the whole site towards a few keywords? Thanks, Barney.
