      Hi,

I am building this site for my boss http://charlesfridmanpr.wix.com/real-estate and am still working on it.

I'm getting close to the stage where I want to redirect it to the URL we want to use, but in reading these forums, it says that because all of subpages (?) have a # in them, they will not be read or indexed by google.

I am very new to this, and while it may not look like it, the website has taken me quite a while to design.  Is there a way to fix this?  We want to appear high up for a non competitive keyword.

      Thanks

        Thanks Tom,

I guess I made a mistake going with Wix, I will see if their support or forums can help out more with the issue.

Our current website is a Wordpress one, but it has almost nothing on it, and looks like a blog. I'm just an admin at the company, and the owner wanted a website with his bio.  I did a couple on the Godaddy Web builder, and thought I could make him proud with a bigger website.  It looks like that was a mistake as his only goal was to get a page about him near the top, and instead he'll have a website he didn't want, not achieving the only goal he had.

Sorry, went into vent mode there.  Thanks again for the help.

Take this as advice since you claim to be a "newb"....NEVER use Wix for professional web design or development jobs.

But back to your question..according to Google, those pages will still be crawled as long as you adhere to their guidelines.

Now in my opinion, if a URL contains any character other than a "-" in between words or a "?" to generate products dynamically in your shopping cart, then it's not a good URL.

However, we've all seen websites rank for keywords that don't even contain the targeted keyword on the page. But if you're target keywords are very non-competitive, sometimes having just the target keyword in the page title is all you need.

I'm sure most here on Moz would agree that you're better off moving to a CMS and/or framework of some kind (WordPress, Drupal, Sitecore, etc.) from here on out.

I would never want my real estate client to have to use a URL like this "/real-estate#!543-second-avenue/is8ls" on advertisements, listings, and signs. Also, how would they directly point any phone leads to specific pages on the website? Sure you could create nice and clean 301 redirects to those pages but it will be tough to manage and quite frankly it's pointless. Their are platforms available such as WordPress that are easier to set up and manage depending on how complex you want to be.

So, my solution is to move away from Wix. And if that is not an option due to time (which it seems like it is for this project), then I would be on the phone with Wix, on their forums, in their online community talking and learning from everyone I can to make sure that your website is optimized for SEO and that their system doesn't get your pages neglected in Google due to URL structure.

I wish you the best of luck!

Redirection of 100 domain to Main domain affects SEO?

            domain seo redirecting domain

Hi guys, An email software vendor managed by a different area of my company redirected 100 domains used for unsolicited email campaigns to my main domain. These domains are very likely to get blacklisted at some point. My SEO tool now is showing me all those domains as "linking" to my main site as do-follow links. The vendor states that this will not affect my main domain/website in any way. I'm highly concerned. I would appreciate your professional opinion about this. Thanks!!

            Should you 'noindex' Checkout Pages?

Today I was reviewing my Moz analytics and suddenly noticed 1,000 issues with pages without a meta description. I reviewed the list and learned it is 1,000 checkout pages. That's because my website has thousands of agency pages from which you can buy a product, and it reflects that difference on each version of the checkout. So, I was thinking about no-indexing (but continuing to 'follow') these checkout pages, but wondering if it has any knock-on effects I may be unaware of? Any assistance is much appreciated. Luke

Is it still true that 3xx redirects don't cause you to lose any ranking?

In this: https://moz.com/blog/301-redirection-rules-for-seo it says that simply redirecting - provided you don't change anything on the page - isn't going to cost you rankings. Is this still true, or is there any new data/case studies that have been done since? I haven't seen anything updating it and just want to make sure because it's from 2016. We want to do simple 301 redirecting without any changes to the page. Or has anyone had an opposite experience?

            DNS or 301 Website Redirect

We are running a marketplace site, so we have thousands of vendors selling their products on our site. Each vendor has a Profile page and we are soon to launch a premium store-front that is white label. Many of these vendors will want to point a custom url to their premium store-front (which is a sub domain of the marketplace) and we are trying to get an understanding of how we should instruct them to point their url in a way that will give the main marketplace site the seo juice. We also want to understand what will show up in the address bar.  Will it be their url or our sub domain? Will any of the marketplace seo juice boost their url local listing status?

Creating 100,000's of pages, good or bad idea

Hi Folks, Over the last 10 months we have focused on quality pages but have been frustrated with competition websites out ranking us because they have bigger sites.  Should we focus on the long tail again? One option for us is to take every town across the UK and create pages using our activities.  e.g. Stirling
            Stirling paintball
            Stirling Go Karting
Stirling Clay shooting We are not going to link to these pages directly from our main menus but from the site map. These pages would then show activities that were in a 50 mile radius of the towns.  At the moment we have have focused our efforts on Regions, e.g. Paintball Scotland, Paintball Yorkshire focusing all the internal link juice to these regional pages, but we don't rank high for towns that the activity sites are close to. With 45,000 towns and 250 activities we could create over a million pages which seems very excessive!  Would creating 500,000 of these types of pages damage our site? This is my main worry, or would it make our site rank even higher for the tougher keywords and also get lots of traffic from the long tail like we used to get. Is there a limit to how big a site should be? edit

Include Cross Domain Canonical URL's in Sitemap - Yes or No?

I have several sites that have cross domain canonical tags setup on similar pages.  I am unsure if these pages that are canonicalized to a different domain should be included in the sitemap.  My first thought is no, because I should only include pages in the sitemap that I want indexed. On the other hand, if I include ALL pages on my site in the sitemap, once Google gets to a page that has a cross domain canonical tag, I'm assuming it will just note that and determine if the canonicalized page is the better version.  I have yet to see any errors in GWT about this.   I have seen errors where I included a 301 redirect in my sitemap file.  I suspect its ok, but to me, it seems that Google would rather not find these URL's in a sitemap, have to crawl them time and time again to determine if they are the best page, even though I'm indicating that this page has a similar page that I'd rather have indexed.

Buying an existing domain with higher ranks for redirecting

I've recently came across one of my competitors who's looking to sell their domain. Now they currently rank higher than my primary site for a few keywords we are targeting. Would it be wise to buy the domain and do a name server change over to my primary domain? Would it even help boost ranks for the keywords they rank higher for? Or will the link juice be minimal? Any thoughts would be great!

Best practice to redirects based on visitors' detected language

One of our websites has two languages, English and Italian. The English pages are available at the root level:
            www.site.com/   English homepage www.site.com/page1
www.site.com/page2 The Italian pages are available under the /it/ level:
            www.site.com/it   Italian homepage www.site.com/it/pagina1
www.site.com/it/pagina2 When an Italian visitor first visits www.mysit.com we'd like to redirect it to www.site.com/it but we don't know if that would impact search engine spiders (eg GoogleBot) in any way... It would be better to do a Javascript redirect? Or an http 3xx redirect? If so, which of the 3xx redirect should we use? Thank you
