For implementing AMP, is it compulsory that the website needs to support HTTPs ?'.
-
In order to get the AMP version of my website show up on the SERP, is it a complusory factor that my website needs to support HTTPs.
-
My understanding is that AMP pages don't need to be HTTPS themselves, but the resources they link to often need to be (see https://www.ampproject.org/docs/reference/validation_errors.html). I think that is so it can be cached by Google and served on an HTTPS site without problems.
-
Definitely not, AMP is more a markup then something that requires it needs HTTPS.
-
No, in order for your AMP pages to be indexed you do NOT need to implement HTTPs on your website.
-
Shouldn't have thought so. I have implemented it on a few of my clients sites which aren't HTTPS and they are being indexed fine.
Most of the sites that use AMP pages are things like news article sites etc. which don't really need to be HTTPS as they are not saving any of the customers secure information.

Switching to HTTPS YES/NO ?
Yesterday we received an email form GWT that our website does not have a valid SSL certificate. So google is now standard scanning on the https domain. Is this the beginning of an algo update on security, as Matt Cuts said on the SMX "At SMX West Matt Cutts gave the attendees a few tidbits, one of those items was that making your site secure, encrypted, i.e. SSL enabled, is an important trend for 2014. At the end of the session, I asked Matt if this means Google is looking to give sites that enable SSL a ranking boost. Matt Cutts shrugged his shoulders and explained that if it was his choice, he would make it so. But he said, it is far from happening and there are people at Google that do not want this to happen". So should we switch to https with SSL, what are the potential risks with this changes for websites with very good ranking on competitive keywords. Email we received: Site host name, https://www.sum.nl, does not match your SSL certificate Subject Name We have noticed that the host name of your site, https://www.example.nl, does not match any of the "Subject Names" in your SSL certificate, which were: *.example.com example.com As a result, many web browsers will block users from accessing your site, or display a security warning message when your site is accessed. Recommended action To correct this problem, please get a new SSL certificate by a Certificate Authority (CA) with a "Subject Name" or "Subject Alternative DNS Names" that matches your host name. Changing to HTTPS and Webmaster Tools
I have recently added an SSL certificate to my site robt.info to make a nice and secure bitcoin e-commerce store to sell children's books in. My question is, even after 301 redirecting everything from http://robt.info to https://robt.info, changing canonicals and all that... do I need to submit the HTTPS version as a new site to Webmaster tools? OR, can I just leave the HTTP version in there as the only site for the HTTPS?? I guess what I am asking is... does google know that the HTTPS version is now the one true version with out me adding another site in Webmaster tools???? thanks in advance. rob

Need help linking Youtube account to Google+ profile? (please read description, thank you)
Our Youtube was managed by a SEO company. We are no longer working with them, but separated on amicable terms. I want to link our youtube account to our company owner's personal google+ profile. However, when I try to do so, the only option Youtube allows me is the former SEO company's google+ account as the only link option. Can someone tell me how I can link our youtube account to our company owner's g+? I can still contact our former SEO company if the need to 'release' ownership. Thank you!

Can't find the keywords
I have taken over the SEO of our website and cannot find any record of the keywords/phrases associated with each page. Is there anyway to find out what the main keywords for each page are for each page?

Why do YOU blog? What's the point!?
From what I can gather blogging serves the following purposes. (Please correct me if I miss an important step) To clarify this is just in reference to a blog on an Internet marketing website so purely from a BUSINESS perspective. Creating fresh, relevant content on a regular basis (around the right keywords) is key for great traffic and rankings Building a following ....... With the intent of turning a % of that following into customers (primarily through affiliate links on your site or consulting of some kind - seo, link building, writing) Establishing yourself as an 'authority' ...... This, coupled with your great rankings and traffic from bullet #1 makes it possible to charge a great deal of money and get it because, hey, you are an authority 🙂 My intention isn't to make light of any of the AMAZING, talented people who spend a great deal of time and energy giving back to this incredible, dynamic industry via their blogs (and deserve to makes gobs of cash!) Did I miss a step? Is this the road to success? Thanks for chiming in! Have a great weekend! Matthew

Few questions regarding Rand's Over Optimization Video
I was just watching the Whiteboard Friday video and it was informative and good. Thank god, we always tried to stay natural and all of our websites are perfectly not in danger. Anyways, I do have few questions : He said about internal links on inner pages. One of our site has a sidebar with a list of 10 items, which are our main services and we want users always to have a access to it, so we have placed it on the sidebar and it appears on all pages. Is it wrong ? About the links, we have a list of social bookmarking sites, like 450 sites, and all of them are PR2-PR5 sites, etc. We submit each of our product to those sites . Is it wrong ? And how to know, which is a low quality site and we should not submit the link there ? We receive like 10+ link requests per day and we place their links and they place ours on resources page. Is it wrong ? We write eZine article for all of our products/keywords and submit. Is it wrong ? Looks like, the old school link building method are going to go down the pit hole by Google. Whats the new way to build links ? This is making me crazy.
