Best way to advertise cosmetic dermatologist on Facebook in the UK?
-
I have a client who owns a cosmetic dermatology clinic. Recently he's been trying to work more on his Facebook page, and has been attempting to boost his posts but they keep getting declined for this, that and the other. "No before and after photos", "Ad is sensitive in nature", etc.
Nothing shady, he's a registered doctor and a member of the Royal College of Physicians in London and the Royal College of General Practitioners. Main treatments offered are things like Botox (which I know he can't legally advertise due to strict advertising standards in the UK), dermal fillers, lip fillers, non-surgical lifts. Just general non-surgical prescription-level cosmetic treatments.
I don't have much experience in Facebook advertising, but this line of work seems particularly challenging to advertise on Facebook. Does anyone who has experience in advertising this type of business on Facebook have any general advice on what sorts of posts/ads have worked with them before?

Thanks for the tip! Definitely need to sit down and have a real brainstorm.

We had a plastic surgeon client who had the exact same issues. What we did is we brainstormed the results. How the person would feel, what the person wanted to accomplish, etc. What we figured out worked best was to appeal to those end results and positive desires without trying to manipulate someone's feelings. For example, you could use the confidence angle, like "Walk into a room with confidence" and whatnot. You'll probably notice that there's always an underlying cause for people to wish to get cosmetic surgery, whether it's health reasons or a personal goal, or self confidence, so use that knowledge to better reach the people who are more likely to use your services. Hope this helps!

Fantastic resources, thank you so much.
I can understand Facebook's issue with ads that may be perceived as negatively portraying being a certain physical conditions (weight, facial features, complexions, etc). But it just seems a little overkill at times. I'll try your suggestion of a more medical/factual approach rather than promotional, and more "beautiful people" type imagery. If the "beautiful people" goes down better with Facebook, it would be kind of ironic as currently the imagery they're turning down is of real people. Real clients that have volunteered their photos to be used for marketing. Not models.
I foresee a lot of trial and error trying to satisfy Facebook's regulations and get a good CTR.

.co.uk and .co coexistance?
Hello, Our business has been setup and has been targeting the uk. Therefore, we've always had a .co.uk domain. Now that we want to go international, we are looking into expanding in the U.S. and have bought a .co domain to do so. My question is: would we get .co.uk penalised if some of the .co pages will have similar content to the .co.uk pages? I know .co is a Generic Top Level Domain (gTLDs), but my understanding so far is that: as long as we set a country target & US language on the .co domain and follow basic cautionary steps and best practises from this article and others, we should be completely fine. Is this also what you guys think? Thanks in advance!

Best Practice For Multisite Targeting Different States With Same Content
I am auditing a Joomla website that uses the MightySites component to create multiple versions of the same site for different state/province areas. For example, the site structure looks something like: example.com/fl/
Local SEO | | MatShepSEO
example.com/mn/
example.com/ny/
example.com/wa/ etc. Each of the state home pages are largely identical and much of the content within each state sub-folder is a copy of the original content on the main example.com site, with minor changes here and there. The client is a national organization and needs to keep this structure to allow each state to be able to edit and change their own content, though as far as I can see content doesn't actually vary much. What's best practice here in reducing duplicate content issues? We can't use hreflang as it is all within one country (although it does also provide two different language versions of content, for which I will use hreflang.) Should we just canonical everything back to the corresponding pages on the example.com site? Any thoughts or recommendations much appreciated.0 -
Digital Marketers Take on Traditional Advertising (Billboards, Radio, TV, etc.)
So I have some questions (probably more of a discussion really) about how to do traditional advertising in 2015. I started working with a local company that has done very well for themselves throughout the years but has lacked in the digital marketing space. Today we are doing a lot better digitally and I have been put in a position that will also affect how we do traditional...which I've never really done before (I'm a digital marketer so why would I?). Here's my question (or discussion item): If we have always done radio jingles (include Pandora here too), cheesy commercials, and traditional billboards and they seem to have done well through the years should we keep doing those? I have 2 issues here as a digital marketer: I have virtually no data on people that see or hear our advertisements because there isn't an Analytics platform for the real world. This means that I can't stay with them, better their experience, or nurture them along the way with my advertising. My thinking here is that I want to get them to my website then -- Please correct me if I'm wrong or if there are other ways of thinking for this out there that make sense. I want to test test test these jingles, commercials, and billboards but I'm unsure how to. How can you tell what's working and what's not? Also, are there others out there doing things like this that can at least show me that jingles work (or do not work)? My impression is that they work because people remember the cheesy jingles and such but also that they don't work because everyone's take on them is "they are so annoying!" -- Again, please shed some light here and correct me if I'm wrong in my thinking. My final note here and MAIN purpose for posting here is because I want to change the way things are done with traditional. It all seems to be the same thing over and over, and I want to get creative with this and push the limits. This is why I have turned to the Moz community, because I think we have those types of minds here.

What is The Best Way to Rank in Multiple Countries?
Hi, I have a client that would like to rank in google.ie as well as .co.uk and in the middle east and possibly other parts of Europe. What is the best way to go about this? Would a new domain for each country be best and hosted in that specific country or is there a way to do this with one site? Bearing in mind that SEO will need to be done to rank in each country. Many Thanks.
