Is there an API to download keyword data?
-
Howdy fellow Mozzers,
We're tracking a client's keyword rankings in one of our campaigns and want to export that data on a regular basis to display in Tableau. Tableau let's us quickly match up different data sources and create visuals with the data. It's useful for marrying different data sources that don't normally talk to each other.
We know we can pull keyword tracking data manually, but we're hoping there's an API or scheduler that we can use to download the data automatically. Automating the process would be super helpful.
Thank you!

Thanks Lisa. I took the survey as well. One feature request:
Keyword volume over time is hard to get. It does not seem to be well covered in the market. Many of us need this to account for seasonality and time sensitive data like release cycles for media like news, movies, books, music, etc. Google updates their keyword volume on a very delayed basis, so it's not very useful for time sensitive areas.
Just a suggestion.
Thanks.

Hi Brett,
I was also looking for a way to automate the extracting of keyword data from Moz some time ago and hit the same wall. I have found a work around for it, which is far from ideal but does save quite some time. I have written an R script that uses Selenium to access Moz, authenticate and then get the URL that produces the .csv export. For example mine looks like this:
This makes the data available in my R session and then I can do pretty much everything I want with it. It is not an API so you won't be able to get the data straight into Tableau but you can save it somewhere and then just import the file. The script execution can be scheduled using Windows Task Scheduler if necessary. If you think this is something that may work for you, then I would be happy to share parts of the script.

I've taken the survey, but you may want to add another field asking for feedback on specific features. 2016 saw a lot of companies bring Business Intelligence in house with data display platforms taking a leading role in creating stories from data. Because of this my clients are a little more aware and want to do a lot more with data - which means I'm more critical of the data I can GET from an API.
It would be excellent if I could create an index of my keywords and the pages that are ranking, so I could identify which pages are ranking highly, and compare to the pages that are ranking low. Right now I don't have a method of compiling all the URLs that are ranking, or displaying which ones are hovering around position 11-13, which is low hanging fruit to bump onto page 1.
Most APIs don't offer the ability to draw out that information, which I could then create visuals and tables with. It would put Moz ahead of the competition to make more data points available via API.

Thanks Lisa, I appreciate the clarity!

Hi Brett,
Thanks for reaching out about this! We don't currently have a way to automate the keyword tracking data collection process and the data must be pulled manually.
I know that we have a lot of ideas for the future of our keyword tracking and an API is definitely on our wish list, but I'm not sure whether this would be used for campaign-like tracking. I'll make sure to bring this up with the Moz Pro product team again as something that would definitely be appreciated by our customers.
There is also survey you can take to register your interest in a keyword API and tell us what kinds of things you're looking for: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YZ58JVH

Are there any plans for a Moz connector to Google Data Studio
Hello all, As title reads, are there any plans for a Moz connector to Google Data Studio to help automate reporting? I'm surprised this doesn't exist already because Data Studio is so heavily used. Thanks in advance. Simon

Errors for URLS being too long and archive data is duplicate
I have hundreds of errors for the same three things. The URL is too long. Currently the categories are domain.com/product-category/name main product/accessory product/

-Do I eliminate somehow the product category? Not sure how to fix this. 2) It has all of my category pages listed as archives showing duplicates. I don't know why, as they are not blog posts, they hold products on them. I don't have an archived version of this. How do I fix this? 3. It is saying my page speed is slow. I am very careful to optimize all my photos in PhotoShop. Plus I have a tool on the site to further compress. I just went with another host company that is supposed to be faster. Any ideas/ I would so appreciate your help and guidance. All my best to everyone, be safe and healthy.0 -
Is there a way to view the top 100 highest priority keywords?
I have an opportunity to take over a massive domain name list (several thousand). If at all possible, I'd really love to not have to search each keyword individually in the tool and map out the priority score for each. Is there just a way to view the keywords by highest priority scores? Then potentially download the csv and alphabetize to help me narrow in on domains that would be the most worthwhile to develop? I know it sounds like a big ask, and likely not possible, but never hurts to at least ask about it. Thanks!

Can you please add Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex or at least Counties to local keyword search areas?
I would like to request that a "Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex" option be added to the keyword search areas. As it stands, each city must be individually chosen, which is not only very time consuming, but also acts as an insurmountable multiplier for the keywords used in our campaigns. Most businesses in DFW serve the entire Metroplex, which consists of around 200 cities. Even the core largest number well over 50. Almost all of these cities are within about 50 miles of each other as well. Asking the majority of businesses to only focus their SEO monitoring efforts on a few cities in the Metroplex would be like asking a Hyper Wal-Mart to only monitor about 10% of their inventory at most, and more likely 1-5%. Alternately, if you could instead have County choices for DFW, that would help a lot. The counties of DFW are: Collin County

Hunt County
Johnson County
Kaufman County
Parker County
Rockwall County
Somervell County
Tarrant County
Wise County The three in bold are typically the most important for businesses in the Metroplex, though each of the outlying counties listed contain dozens of cities as well, each with their own particular specialties, focuses, and demographics.0 -
What is the best way to display historical ranking data?
I have utilized MOZ for years but have always struggled with a nice graph that illustrates historical ranking data for all tracked keywords. Can someone help me find the best solution for this in MOZ?

Is there any way to filter by relevancy first and then volume second? Right now I just export the results of keyword explorer and do it offline. It would be great if I could do it online
I'm trying to filter the results of a keyword search in keyword explorer by relevancy first and volume second. But the minute I select volume the relevancy is completely lost. I know I can export them and manipulate it in excel but is there a feature that allows me to do this in Moz?

Suggestion to Improve Moz's Link Data
Hello All. The recent Index update (29th January) seems to have produced quite a few shocks to Moz Pro users. Index updates always cause panic and joy every time they are released. However, I feel this is a big improvement that could be made. In this last index, the DA for my site has remained the same. I was expecting a rise, simply because I have been doing some link building since October and was expecting the results to start showing around this time. However, the link metrics for my site looked worse this month than ever before. The index clearly didn't crawl sites and pages that it has crawled the last couple of indexes, and I noticed a few links disappeared from the metrics altogether, links that I know still exist. So I have a suggestion... If Moz has collected link data in previous indexes, can it not preserve that data rather than starting afresh with every new index. Regular checks could be conducted on existing link data to identify expired or broken links, but to disregard them and start anew with every index seems a little odd. That way, Moz would have much more accurate and comprehensive link data which would help to avoid the DA inaccuracy, and provide users with a better measure of how their site is performing against the rest of the web. This may be naive because I do not know the technical side to index updates. Any thoughts, advice, suggestions etc would be appreciated.
