Keyword & negative keyword overlap
-
So I just read your blog on quality score and after reading the negative keyword section I'm a little confused and I need clarification. In that paragraph you mentioned about not overlapping your negative keywords with your active keywords and you used an example of dog food and dog bed. So my question is, if you put the word dog bed into the negative keyword list isn't the word dog the over lap word? Would you ad not show because the word dog is in the active keyword list?

When managing your PPC campaigns, it’s crucial to avoid keyword and negative keyword overlap. This occurs when your negative keywords unintentionally block your ads from showing for relevant search terms. To prevent this, regularly review and refine your keyword lists, ensuring that your negative keywords don’t conflict with your target keywords. Utilize tools and reports to identify any overlaps and adjust accordingly. This practice will help maintain the effectiveness of your campaigns and ensure your ads reach the right audience.

Can I add negative keywords with broad match?
-
Your Search and Display Network campaigns can use negative keywords to steer clear of sites that include those terms. You can add negative keywords to your Search and Display campaigns using the instructions in this article. Additionally, you can discover more about downloading, deleting, or editing bad keywords.
Negative keywords are meant to prevent advertisements from appearing on irrelevant search queries, but they may unintentionally prohibit normal keywords from matching pertinent search queries, which will reduce the effectiveness of your campaigns. The match type that was used to produce the negative keyword was likely broader than what was intended, which is the most frequent cause of a negative keyword conflicting with a normal keyword.

Keyword overlap and negative keyword overlap are two concepts in digital advertising that are important to understand when creating and optimizing ad campaigns.
Keyword overlap refers to the situation when two or more keywords in an ad group are very similar or share the same meaning. This can cause competition between keywords and result in higher costs per click (CPC) or lower ad relevance, as Google or other search engines might show multiple ads for the same search query. To avoid keyword overlap, it's recommended to use a variety of related keywords that cover different aspects of the target audience and their search intent.
Negative keyword overlap, on the other hand, refers to the situation when two or more negative keywords in an ad group are very similar or have the same meaning. Negative keywords are used to exclude certain search terms from triggering an ad to appear, so if two or more negative keywords overlap, they might cancel each other out and allow unwanted search terms to trigger the ad. To avoid negative keyword overlap, it's recommended to review the negative keyword list regularly and remove or consolidate any redundant or unnecessary negative keywords.
Overall, it's important to maintain a well-organized and targeted keyword strategy, including negative keywords, to ensure that ad campaigns are effective and cost-efficient.

@Vallerinspects Adding "dog bed" to the negative keyword list prevents the ad from showing for searches including this term. However, it can still potentially appear in searches that include the word "dog" but not "dog bed," such as "dog toys" or "dog food." To prevent ads from showing for all dog-related searches, add "dog" as a negative keyword. But keep in mind that it will work with any inquiry with the word "dog," regardless of the context. So be careful about using this strategy.

Negative keywords on AdWords account, but mispelling in customer query still triggers ad. Possible to avoid?
Ok, So this really p*#%d me off the other day. I've built an extremely comprehensive list of Negative keywords for our trade bookbinding pages on Ad words. Amongst 100's of others, I've also included every City, Town, Village, and County in the UK so our Ads don't get triggered by local search intent. However, we're still getting clicks from searches like this one: **'binding services n worcestr' ** Question: If Google won't assume this is a misspelling of one of our Neg KW, how I can I possibly protect the account from this type of search? Is this something we just have to accept having KW's on broad match mod/ phrase match?

Adwords negative keywords / keyword lists conflicting?
Does any of you had any experience on large 5k+ shared negative keyword lists impacting normal campaign negative keywords in Adwords even if they are not selected on these campaigns? And a second question; does anyone know how selected negative keyword lists can be removed from a campaign? I seem to be able to add them but not to remove them... Cheers!

Variations of keywords in Google Adwords
Hello. Is it worth running ads for both of the following keywords in Google Adwords (phrase match for both)? 1. "keyword one" 2. "keyword one nyc" If I don't run the second keyword, my ad will still be triggered by a search for "keyword one nyc." So is there a benefit to running both? By the way, the Google Adwords campaign is limited in geography to the NYC metropolitan area. Thank you!

Bought domains to some of my best keywords. What should I do?
So I work in a very niche industry and compete very well with Google PPC. I was recently able to acquire domains of keywords that drive almost 40% of all our paid traffic and quite a bit of organic traffic as well. The problem is that these keyword domains carry no authority (obviously because i just bought them). Would i be best served to just do redirects with these names to my current site(s)? Or i was also thinking about setting up independent blog sites that would link back to my main site. I' was also thinking of changing the domains of my paid google ads to align with the recently acquired links.... Thanks in advance for your help!

Can I pass keyword match type through the Adwords dest URL?
Hi guys, I'm currently using duplicates of the same keyword with different match types, and I'd like to pass the keyword match type through the query, the same way I can pass the keyword and creative. ie. http://my.site.com/?kw={keyword}&kwmt={matchtype}&aid={creative} As far as I can tell, Google allows you to pass the keyword, creative (ad id), network and a mobile flag. Microsoft allows you to pass the match type and and ad id, and I want to be able to do the same in my Adwords. Is this is possible, or is the only way to create different ad groups for each match type and pass a custom query? Cheers, Jez

Does anyone know of an excel template for creating keyword combinations?
I am looking for an Excel template with Macros that would allow me to drop a column of keywords next to a column of modifiers and it would build out thousands of keywords with a Macro. Can anyone drop their best SEO/SEM Excel template spreadsheet links in the comments?

In Google Adwords, can I create negative dollar-amount keywords?
example of negative keywords: -$40 driving lessons -35 dollar driving lessons The driving lessons I'm selling are $55 an hour, so I obviously don't want unqualified leads chewing through my budget when they clearly don't want to spend $55 on a lesson. I already have the price mentioned in my ads, but I want to negative out the dollar amounts because people are still stupid enough to click without reading the ad. Any help will be appreciated! Matt
