Google Maps results doesn't show my site url but rather the maps url, why is this?
-
For several of my clients landing pages that show up in the Maps results the website url has been overwritten by the maps url (maps.google.com). Even though on my places page I have the correct website set up.
Does anyone have any idea why they would be doing this and how I can correct it?
Thanks kinldy in advance,
Aaron.

Duplicate URLs on eCommerce site caused by parameters
Hi there, We have a client with a large eCommerce site with about 1500 duplicate URLs caused by the parameters in the URLs (such as the sort parameter where the list of products are then sorted by price, age etc.) Example: www.example.com/cars/toyota First duplicate URL: www.example.com/cars/toyota?sort=price-ascending Second duplicate URL: www.example.com/cars/toyota?sort=price-descending Third duplicate URL: www.example.com/cars/toyota?sort=age-descending Originally we had advised to add a robots.txt file to block search engines from crawling the URLs with parameters but this hasn't been done. My question: If we add the robots.txt now and exclude all URLs with filters - how long will it take for Google to disregard the duplicate URLs? We could ask the developers to add canonical tags to all the duplicates but these are about 1500... Thanks in advance for any advice!

How do I prevent 404's from hurting my site?
I manage a real estate broker's site on which the individual MLS listing pages continually create 404 pages as properties are sold. So, on a site with 2200 pages indexed, roughly half are 404s at any given time. What can I do to mitigate any potential harm from this?

Incoming links which don't exists...
I believe our site is being penalized/held back in rankings, and I think this is why... We placed an advert on a website which they didn't make "no follow" so we had hundreds of site-wide links coming into our site. We asked them to remove the advert which they did. This was 4 months ago, and the links are still showing in GWMT. We have look into their pages which GWMT is saying still link to us, but these a number pages aren't being indexed by Google, and others aren't being cached. Is it possible that because Google cant find these pages, it can tell our link has been removed? And/or are we being penalized for this? Many thanks

Is there any SEO advantage to sharing links on twitter using google's url shortener goo.gl/
Hi is there any advantage to using <cite class="vurls">goo.gl/</cite> to shorten a URL for Twitter instead of other ones? I had a thought that <cite class="vurls">goo.gl/</cite> might allow google to track click throughs and hence judge popularity.

Our Site's Content on a Third Party Site--Best Practices?
One of our clients wants to use about 200 of our articles on their site, and they're hoping to get some SEO benefit from using this content. I know standard best practices is to canonicalize their pages to our pages, but then they wouldn't get any benefit--since a canonical tag will effectively de-index the content from their site. Our thoughts so far: add a paragraph of original content to our content link to our site as the original source (to help mitigate the risk of our site getting hit by any penalties) What are your thoughts on this? Do you think adding a paragraph of original content will matter much? Do you think our site will be free of penalty since we were the first place to publish the content and there will be a link back to our site? They are really pushing for not using a canonical--so this isn't an option. What would you do?

3 results for a site on page one?!?
Hi, I've never seen a website rank on page 1 in position 2, 3 and 4 for one query, completely separate results as well. I thought they limited the amount of results from a website on each page?
