Bing rank drop off for multiple sites
-
Hi Mozzers,
Seeing some wacky stuff going on on some sites I manage. In more than a few, the ranking on bing has dropped basically overnight from page one spots to not being found on the first 100 positions.
Anyone else seeing similar results?
Some of the sites are fairly new, some have been around for ages, some are wordpress, some are not. I've been searching for some news of a big change on bing, but keep reading about bing dropping the thin sites during black friday.
In one example, I had the site set up in BWT for a while, and had a look at the data. The reports show that the pages are crawled, the index summary shows pages indexed, and there seems to be no crawl errors, but rankings are absolutely gone. Also, I can't see the sites in bing if I search "site:example.com" in bing.
Here's 2 examples, the first would make sense since it's pretty thin as I havent added much content yet:
but this one doesn't make sense to me. Sure there's a few errors, but to be dropped like a rock seems weird

Dan,
Thanks for your reply. I have enabled the XML Sitemap via Yoast SEO.
I also wanted to share with you the below note I received from Bing Customer Service.
Could you please let me know what a webserver log is, where I can find it, and if I should be concerned with sharing that type of information?
Best regards,
-David

It seems the error has been corrected in Google. However it remains in Bing. One huge thing I'd recommend would be the addition of an XML Sitemap. Bing has been known to say they follow it strictly, as long as there's no errors in it.
You're using Yoast SEO, so simply go into the Yoast settings and turn it on. Perhaps the addition of the XML sitemap will give a clear directive to Bing to index your homepage.
I didn't really check a lot further, but the sitemap is good to have in any case, so you may want to start there.

Dan,
Thanks for your note and advice. I'm new to SEO and SEOmoz, so any input is much appreciated!
I will take a look at Bing Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics to see what I find.
Thanks again,

Just an FYI - if you open a new question you're more likely to get a response. Not that we mind so much, but I only saw this question because I received an email since I'd already replied to the thread. No worries, just an FYI
Anyhow... just taking a quick look here...
I ran a site: search in Bing, and it appears your home page is not in the index.
It IS in Google's index, but ranks 3rd when I do a site: search.
The short of it is, something is causing both Bing and Google to devalue the index page.
This could be for a variety of reasons, but I suggest you perhaps check out the new Bing webmaster tools as well as check for any errors/warnings in Google webmaster tools.
A quick look and I don't see anything - but when I get more time to check it out, I'll take a better look.

I am having this problem as well. My website, www.onlinemathcourses.org, according to SEOMoz, was number 5 for the phrase: online math courses on 6/8/12. One week later, the same phrase left the top 50, along with virtually every other targeted keyword/phrase. Even if you type our url into the bing search bar we don't show up. This seems very bizarre and is disconcerting because we generate business via our website.
Any ideas on why this may be happening?
Thanks very much.

OK so whatever it was seems to have righted itself now for the most part. Nothing has changed on my end, can't explain at all why I was seeing what I was seeing.
However, thanks to Dan Shure for doing his best to provide some direction.

OK so rank tracker uses your local ip settings to make the search. So I connected to a remote vpn, did the same search, and the rankings came back!
So I did the site:search, I see the full list of indexed url's, but if i disconnect from the vpn, then refresh, gone!
So let's say for instance bing is somehow serving me different results.. how does it know which sites to hide from me?
So crazy.

Bing could be doing something wonky... see where I show you on that search - http://screencast.com/t/2KGmi5gWO
I just did a post on my site this week about some weird Bing results, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is something weird happening.
The big question is, how is traffic? Did you check analytics? Its not impossible it could be a rank tracker error.

Image added to show what I'm seeing.
Both are showing? Hrmmm... I can now see ahmedandsukaram.com on site search, but it's only 1 inside page showing, and homewindowtint.org still doesn't show....
OK so check this out, the reports using ranktracker from SEO power suite show a ranking of 8 on 1/12/2012 and zero rank on 1/13/2012 for the search term san mateo dui lawyer. So what changed between the 12th and 13th?
Well, one thing changed... I did a fresh install on my pc... but what's that got to do with it? So thinking maybe my install of rank tracker has an issue, I search manually on bing with chrome. No ranking. Then I look on SEOMOZ ranktracker.... it's ranked page 1 position 10!
This is ludicrous but is something affecting the way I see bing's results based on my computer? Is it showing me different results because of my ip? Is bing just mad at me because I installed Chrome first? Will keep exploring to see what's going on.

Hi
Both sites are showing for me in Bing on site: search, searches for the domain and brand name searches. What are the other searches/keywords where ranking has dropped? At quick glance I didn't see anything out of the ordinary in Bing.

Not ranking - Scarped content
Hi, I have a problem with a website, that never compe up with before. The website is: https://www.enallaktikidrasi.com It has a bunch of excellent articles, good enough on-page SEO and a medium backlink profile. However, it is ranking just for very very few keywords. The major problem is that there are original articles that searched by their title won't appear in top100 results but they will appear in other websites that scapre them (even if they give a backlink to our original article!) Also, the website has good rankings in Bing and Yahoo but not in Google. There are keywords ranking in #1 in Bing but nowhere in top10 pages in Google.... I am guessing for 3 issues: 1. Majestic shows a very low trust score (just 13). However, the website has not got any kind of penalty in the last 3 years. 2. There are many scarpers. The odd is that scarpers with no real value outrank our content. (Scarpers with almost zero backlink profile) 3. We ran Sucuri on website as there were a large bots attack. Is there a correlation between it bots attack and Google results? (but why not in Bing and Yahoo too?) It seems like Google underestimates the website when indexing websites for some reason. Moreover, some of the articles are really the best around but the keywords they are targeted are not either within the 30 first pages... Any help?? Thanks..

Authority site drastic ranking drop after google https switch. Please Help!
Hi Mozers. Since Google switched to the https version, our company website (http://we.register.it) indexing switched to the https version (https://www.register.it). After that the ranking on Google dropped for almost every keyword. The site is very old and got a great authority and PR 7. It ranked for same keywords for very long time On each page from years there is the correct meta rel canonical. No spam, and WMT is ok. Could you please help? The internal links are all in http, and in https. If you are https are in https (they are all relatives) No changes have been made and the subdomain is in that way from 8 years: the main url has always been http://we.register.it Google started this indexing switch around the 15 October

How to create site map for large site (ecommerce type) that has 1000's if not 100,000 of pages.
I know this is kind of a newbie question but I am having an amazing amount of trouble creating a sitemap for our site Bestride.com. We just did a complete redesign (look and feel, functionality, the works) and now I am trying to create a site map. Most of the generators I have used "break" after reaching some number of pages. I am at a loss as to how to create the sitemap. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Ranking Internationally
Whats the best URL strategy to rank for one term in different countries? We currently rank well in Australia, but are tackling many countries over the next few months. The page I am ranking is http://www.spendbitcoins.com/buy for the term 'buy bitcoins' or 'buy bitcoins in Australia' (replace Australia with each specific country, i.e. New Zealand, Japan, etc.) These are the strategies I have come up with, is one of these good or is there a different better way? Use country specific TLDs, pulling the content from the same site w/ translations Use country specific TLDs and create separate sites and create completely original content Use country specific TLDs, forwarding to the primary domain use a subdomain from the same site modify the page link to be something like spendbitcoins.com/buy/new-zealand Don't worry about any of this and just get links from sites with the proper TLD

How can I use a keyword based domain to rank for my existing site?
Hi everyone, From my understanding if your keywords are in your domain name it can help you rank for the keyword. My site www.pixelchefs.com was affected from the latest Google Algorithm changes, as I used my main site as a testing ground for all my back linking. Our site was a single page with Jquery slide, late February the same time with the Google algo changes we uploaded our new site, larger site with lots of pages and info. Result of that was that home page has PR3 and all other pages PR0. Well I don't really depend on Google for any work as most of my work comes from referrals.......but While searching for names for my private page I came across the domain name www.DesignOrlando.com, The specific keyword gets 22,210 view per month according to Google analytics and also contains part of the keyword for all the keywords I am after. I want to use the domain name for my main site but i am not sure what is the best way to forward the domain so Google can start reading my site as DesignOrlando.com Any Suggestions will be very appreciated.

Why Does this Site Rank for so Many Keywords?
I was doing some research today and kept coming across this site sylvane.com I checked OSE and found that it only has a DA of 37 PA of 35, and only 79 linking domains (966 links total). I got to looking and there are a few links like this http://lulala.us/twxoops/html/userinfo.php?uid=303 Anyway, accroding to SEMRush, this site ranks for over 6,000 keywords. I ran content on a couple of their high ranking pages and the content is not unique, at least not very unique on the pages I checked. What is so special about that site that google is giving it so much love? I am not trying to call them out, I just want to know what this site is doing to garner the favor of google when I have a site in the same niche with a higher DA, PA, linking domains, and social signals.

Any good ideas on how to quickly rank a new site for a new product laucnh?
Hi, I'm thinking of examples like the wii u - when it was announced all wii u sites were new. what ways could one get an edge quickly when competing against other sites without a great deal of authority on this 'new' keyword? obvious ones are social bookmarking, what else could easily be used to quickly (<24hrs) at least help a bit in non competitive kws?
