Ecommerce SEO - product sort order
-
Hi,
I've been trying to find the answer to this in google but having no luck. In the current era, is it damaging to have products ordered randomly in an ecommerce website?
Also, how long would you suggest is a good length of time to establish your natural rank? Ive launched and still work on several succesful ecommerce sites, but have recently launched a completely new venture - brand new url, brand new site and it has been live for around 5 weeks now, and although it is being found in search, it isnt doing as well as i'd like
using the moz pro tools ive picked up some issues and have in the last few days tweaked page titles, added 'nofollow' to all my filters, added content etc, so I feel as though ive reset the clock.
the site (it's an adult site by the way) is www.lovesauce.co.uk - would appreciate some feedback from the pro's

many thanks for your answer.
to be honest it is largely because we have so many products, we felt it would give more of them a better shot at being viewed.
we have apc installed on the server, so the order doesnt shuffle with every page load, but it does change fairly frequently.

Tom,
I would say it's not bad for SEO, however it might be bad for your customers. What's the reasoning for the random order? Was it A/B tested? Etc.

hi, many thanks for your reply.
sorry i managed to stray from my original question, but to respond to what you've said, we are currently only getting around 30 visits a day, but as I say we are very new to the search engines and I have done an awful lot of seo mop up just recently.
back to my original question! product ordering - I have mine set to random at the moment - but is this bad for SEO?

The thing may be your conversion rates. So some things you listed above seemed to be more SEO problems. Generally if you have traffic, you should convert at least one of those a long the line.
Lets say you have 100 unique visits a day, and this continues for about 4 weeks and you still don't get a sale, then something might be wrong. Are sales pitches good? Are they attracting the customer's searches?
These questions all depends on the niche, which I don't have any previous experience with adult niches. I would try to make sure the site is easy to use and navigate, has all the trust icons and SSL information. Easy contact us and etc.
Since you do have multiple ecommerce sites, you may want to see what tactics are converting best and if applicable use them on the adult site.
Note: At work, rather not look at an adult page, so can't see the site.

‘80-90% of SEO already done for you in Wordpress’ Am I missing something?
Hi there, I’m looking for some feedback on a statement made on my Facebook Page re Wordpress and SEO. Please understand I wouldn’t class myself as an expert but I am competent and achieve satisfactory results for clients, more so since becoming a SEOmoz Pro user, I’ve just had some great results for a client using SEOmoz guidelines in ‘On Page SEO Reports’ thank you very much! A comment however made on my FB page has got my interest…. “as you (kn)no(w) google loves WP and will get listed quicker as 80 to 90% of your SEO is already done” Does Wordpress (or Joomla for that matter mentioned in the same conversation) have some SEO advantages that Google loves as the poster would have me believe, can I save time and effort working in word press from an SEO point of view? I use the age old techniques of targeting key phrases and words and distributing them accordingly. Creating internal link structures with ‘key worded anchor text’ etc before embarking on any off page SEO. Do any of you vastly experienced (in comparison to me) SEO folk have any insight into what this statement refers to? I did not gather any references to SEO advantages in Wordpress or Joomla in the Enge and Fishkin et al book The Art of SEO, or any of the other books I’ve read, to develop my knowledge on SEO for the benefit of my clients and of course my pocket. SEO and Modal Windows
Hi all, My website has a Login and Join Us option on every page in the site. Each Login and Join Us window pops up as a modal window. In other words, the user must interact with it before they are taken somewhere else (whether they close it or fill it in). It has come to my attention that this is being counted as duplicate content. Is there any way around this? It's calling duplicate content on practically the whole website. Thanks in advance!

Geo targetting and SEO
Hi all!
Web Design | | lhernandezBum
We are about to launch a new geotargetting feature on our site. Basically, nowadays we have a normal Homepage (example: myHomepage.com). Next week, the homepage will depend on your localization (checked through IP): For example, for Texans there will be a myHomepage.com/Texas (automatically redirected), for New Yorkers a myHomepage.com/Newyork. My question is, how can this affect SEO? Where will the bot go? Hopefully the answer is not "depending on where the bot is hosted"... because this can be dangerous. Also, I don't think that "telling the bot to go to a generic Homepage" is a good idea, as Google dislikes when you show them something different from the human users. Thanks0 -

Implementing a new Nav Bar: Best practice, SEO benefit, your suggestions?
Hi Mozland, We are going to have a new Nav Bar for our site built from the horror that we currently have to up with. We want to make it a simple affair, similar to The Guardian two-tier Nav Bar - main menu which will drop down to the 2nd tier according to what you clicked on in tier one. Regular stuff, I think. Any suggestions, from your experience, about how best to implement this, what to include, what not to do, what can be included and done to make it as best it can be to get people to peruse our site as easily as possible? Thanks

Does using Wordpress Multisite have any negative SEO impact?
I manage multiple websites in Wordpress and the idea of managing them all under one Wordpress install is very attractive. Are there any dangers SEO-wise to doing so? I know that all of the sites would live under the same IP address, but that's not something I'm really concerned with anyway because I don't do a lot of inter-linking between the sites. Thanks for your help! -El Juano

What's the best SEO option for jQuery image carousels?
My client wants a fancy jquery carousel at the top of their home page, as is all the rage these days. I would like to add some nice SEO friendly text to that carousel, but I'm not sure how best to do that..I assume that by keeping the text which will appear in the carousel in divs on the page, which will be swapped out as the images cycle, it should still be easily picked up by search engines?
