KML File vs. KMZ File
-
When should you use a KMZ file? What are the benefits to using a KMZ file as opposed to just a standalone KML file?
-
Sorry, I meant to respond to this days ago. Started, but didn't finish and then it left my mind.
It sounds to me like you want to place a Google map on your site to show the location of the business? If this is correct, I wouldn't use KML nor KMZ. I would just use a javascript point market that represents the one location using the Google Maps API. You can see what I mean as I have several points on one site I'm finishing up at http://www.snoshield.com/contest/christmas2012
You can also show service area like this: http://www.kcdirt.com/contact
Both of those maps use strictly JavaScript, there is no KML or KMZ on them.

Thanks for the feedback! Are you saying that the KMZ file is for when you have more than one location for a particular business/domain? If you only have one business location, would a KML be ideal as it relates to local SEO exposure? We work with independent hotels. Therefore, locally speaking, what do you feel is the best strategy regarding site maps?

I'm not sure if you are referencing SEO in this post, but here's the breakdown from my experience (Several years in the GIS realm)
KMZ when you have a lot of markers in the map making the file size is large and you know the end user will use a Google product to read it.
KML if you are needing to read the file with a program outside of Google due to incompatibility issues with the KMZ format in other programs.

Content strategy for landing pages: Topics vs Features
Hi all, We are going to create new landing pages and optimise existing pages. We have a confusion on how to employ content on these pages....whether these will be filled with content to rank for "topics" and "keywords" or direclty jump into the features are are providing. If we go with first, users may feel boring about teaching them about that topic, if we go with latter...it's hard to rank being no related content to rank for that topic. I have seen some of the websites are employing multiple landing pages where they fill with topic related content and then link to features pages. I need suggestions here. Thank you

Do we take a SEO hit for having multiple URLs on an infinite scroll page vs a site with many pages/URLs. If we do take a hit, quantify the hit we would suffer.
We are redesigning a preschool website which has over 100 pages. We are looking at 2 options and want to make sure we meet the best user experience and SEO. Option 1 is to condense the site into perhaps 10 pages and window shade the content. For instance, on the curriculum page there would be an overview and each age group program would open via window shade. Option 2 is to have an overview and then each age program links to its own page. Do we lose out on SEO if there are not unique URLS? Or is there a way using metatags or other programming to have the same effect?

LocalBusiness vs. Physician
I have a physician who is a client and I'm wondering: is there any advantage to having their schema.org as "LocalBusiness" vs. Physician? Clearly as Physician is a sublisting, it should be fine. But I'm just curious. Other than future-proofing is there any "real-time" advantage? Thanks for any insight!

Seperate Blog vs Blog in Site
Hello, When is it useful to have a blog as an external entity, versus a blog embedded in an ecommerce site. My thoughts lean towards making it part of the site to build new content, but I'm open to suggestions.

Long term plan for a large htaccess file with 301 redirects
We setup a pretty large htaccess file in February for a site that involved over 2,000 lines of 301 redirects from old product url's to new ones. The 'old urls' still get a lot of traffic from product review sites and other pretty good sites which we can't change. We are now trying to reduce the page load times and we're ticking all of the boxes apart from the size of the htaccess file which seems to be causing a considerable hang on load times. The file is currently 410kb big! My question is, what should I do in terms of a long terms strategy and has anyone came across a similar problem? At the moment I am inclined to now remove the 2,000 lines of individual redirects and put in a 'catch all' whereby anything from the old site will go to the new site homepage. Example code: RedirectMatch 301 /acatalog/Manbi_Womens_Ear_Muffs.html /manbi-ear-muffs.html

RedirectMatch 301 /acatalog/Manbi_Wrist_Guards.html /manbi-wrist-guards.html There is no consistency between the old urls and the new ones apart from they all sit in the subfolder /acatalog/0 -

Organic ranking vs Local ranking
After reading this blog entry from Dr Pete on Mirametrix, my question would be:
Algorithm Updates | | echo1
What's more important for a local company, being in the 7 pack or in the top 10 organic results? Which one attracts more clicks? Is the optimization for local ranking just became more important than the traditional SEO?0 -
FLASH vs HTML links in SEO
In terms of a small flash slideshow and having text and links on various slides within, is such text and links as easily index-able (or even at all) compared to static html text on a webpage?
