Is there a way to block competitor ads from showing in YouTube embeds?
-
I am running a site in WordPress and would like to know if there is a way to block competitor ads from appearing for the videos I embed to my site? (the videos are not owned or controlled by me, just embeds).
Thanks..

Tom and Robert, thanks for your replies guys. I like the idea of looking into using Google display network to serve up my own ads for YouTube videos embedded on my site instead of competitors ads. Not sure if this is actually possible but will be looking into.
-
Probably should have mentioned what Robert has here - it's not guaranteed to work.
What options does that leave you with? Well, you could shoot to place your own ads on your own videos. This goes beyond my expertise, but I know there are ways to target your PPC ads quite specifically so that you can appear on videos that you create, while reducing any potential "wastage" by appearing on other channels you don't want to (SERPs) and too many other videos on YT.

While I woud love to tell you it's easy it is not. You can do all Tom has here and, unless your content is smoking with views, nothing will change. Unfortunately, the ads are there and that is one reason where possible, we do not use YouTube if at all possible. We use Vimeo, etc. depending on the circumstance for the client.

Have you monetized the videos/channel? If so, Google will be able to place ads on your videos.
It looks like you could remove these. Here's some info from this link:
- Sign in to your AdSense account and visit the Allow & block ads tab.
- In the sidebar, click Content Host.
- To block specific advertiser URLs: click the Advertiser URLs tab in the horizontal bar across the top of the page. Enter URLs in the box provided, then click Block URLs.
- To block ads by general or sensitive categories: click the appropriate tab in the horizontal bar across the top of the page. Use the controls on the page to allow or block categories.
If you haven't monetized and are getting the ads, it could be because:
If your video contains content to which you don’t own all necessary rights, the rights holder may have identified his/her content in your video and chosen to place ads on it. Ads may be displayed on your videos if they contain soundtracks from the AudioSwap library or if the content in your video has been identified by Content ID.
However, help is at hand:
If you believe ads are inappropriate for your videos, you can opt out of displaying ads:
- Sign into your account and go to the Settings page.
- Click the "Overview" tab.
- Under the heading "Advertisements," select the "Do not allow advertisements" radio button and click "Save Changes."
That information came from this source.
Hope this helps.

Best way to link from press releases
I'm wondering what people recommend for linking from press releases; specifically, what kind of tracking parameters people add to their links, if any. My first thought is to add UTM tracking parameters for Google Analytics, but I have a few concerns: bloggers that copy our link from the release include the tracking parameters in the links from their site, which would only identify the traffic as coming from the release and not the specific sites UTM parameters in the link may make it look less natural to Google Also, I've considered using shortened URL's without parameters in the release that get 301 redirected to the relevant pages, which I thought might have a few benefits: the links look more natural (no tracking parameters) UTM parameters could be added as part of the redirect after the fact if the release attracted links from spammy sources for some reason I could kill the redirect, which I'm hoping would effectively kill the link My company doesn't rely on press releases for link building, which we understand to have been ineffective for a long time, but we do send them out occasionally and want the most effective links for tracking and SEO. I'd love to hear if anyone has thoughts on these assumptions, or if anyone has different linking strategies that they have found strike the right balance of SEO and tracking considerations. Thanks!

How do I merge a google+ and a youtube account?
Before Google merged Google+ and Youtube, we had opened a Google+ account for our business from one email account and a separate account on youtube from a separate account. Now that Google merged the two channels, it created a new G+ page for our youtube account. but I want to merge the youtube account with our formal Google+ page. How do I go about doing that Thank you Joni

Competitor has 50 linking root domains, 2500 facebook likes
Hello, A competitor of ours is ranking way higher than you would expect. They have very few links, half the DA and homepage PA of us, yet they rank several slots higher. On analysis, the only difference seems to be that they have 2500 facebook likes. Did they buy likes? Have you seen anything odd like this before? Thanks.

Pintrest links not showing on Open Site Explorer
Hi, sorry for the 'simple' question, but I have one client who has a Pintrest link which shows up on the Open site Explorer (Page Authority 60, Domain Authority 100) and a second client who also uses Pintrest but their link doesn't show up on Open Site Explorer. I didn't set either of the clients' Pintrest pages up myself, but I can't see why the 2nd client's page isn't showing up in Open site explorer:- http://pinterest.com/unilifestudents/photoshoot-park-house/

Will becoming a YouTube partner get me higher rankings on the site?
One of the branded channels I run has been offered to be apart of YouTube's Partnership program. Trick is - I don't necessarily want to see ads pop up for my videos, as I imagine the revenue is fairly small. I would be wiling to join the program if there is evidence that joining the program helps our rankings on YouTube. I imagine it may - as YouTube likely would give preference for partnered channels, partly due to ad/revenue opportunities for them, and partly because partners have obviously proven to have better content. What do you guys recommend?
