Google Map embed on Contact Us page
-
Greetings Mozzers,
When doing a website, we generally link a Google Map image of the company to the Google Maps in a new tab. Reading other questions made us wonder.
Is it better to do the above or is it more beneficial to SEO to have a Google Map embedded on the website. Which I guess means it links Google to the Business in one way?
Thanks for any/all responses.

Im not positive, but ill always default to what is best (or less clicks) for the user and visible to google.
This may help you make the embed responsive. I tested this and I still can't really interact with it successfully on my phone.
http://niklausgerber.com/blog/responsive-google-or-bing-maps/Here is what I know. The embedded map is very useful to me on a desktop. A link to google maps is more useful to me on mobile. Although it is not the elegant solution we would prefer, I believe it'd be optimal to deliver the embedded version to desktop users and the best responsive, useful-to-a-user version to mobile.

Hey Pincart,
Basically we are using https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/staticmaps/ currently. With this in mind do you feel the embed is still the best option because of the possible interaction metrics?
The reason we like the above is because it is mobile/responsive friendly, however, if it holds more benefit for actual embed then we would consider the change.
Thanks again

It is highly likely that because the embedded map is more useful for a user, that it may be considered better for search rankings. I personally believe embedded maps to be an essential part of local seo or seo for anybody with a location for the very fact that it ties an address to your webpage.
Additionally, Google may be recording metrics regarding the interaction users may have with your embedded map.
While Google is a black box, I believe it is probably easier, safer, and better for users to embed maps rather than provide an image which may be completely useless or frustrating for users. I personally suck with maps and need to get the directions (using the embedded map). The embedded map is more accessible to me.
"Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful." && "#1: Focus on the user and all else will follow." - Google's "About" page.

From my experience, it can be beneficial to SEO to have a Google Map embedded on the website. In that embed code, there is also a "view larger map" link.
I would recommend always finding the correct, shortest URL. It should contain a CID in the url parameters. Read the end of this blog post to understand how to find the CID of a Google Places listing:

Google crawling 200 page site thousands of times/day. Why?
Hello all, I'm looking at something a bit wonky for one of the websites I manage. It's similar enough to other websites I manage (built on a template) that I'm surprised to see this issue occurring. The xml sitemap submitted shows Google there are 229 pages on the site. Starting in the beginning of December Google really ramped up their intensity in crawling the site. At its high point Google crawled 13,359 pages in a single day. I mentioned I manage other similar sites - this is a very unusual spike. There are no resources like infinite scroll that auto generates content and would cause Google some grief. So follow up questions to my "why?" is "how is this affecting my SEO efforts?" and "what do I do about it?". I've never encountered this before, but I think limiting my crawl budget would be treating the symptom instead of finding the cure. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! *edited for grammar.

Google now automatically adding (NAME).UK.COM to the end of each page title
We're on a .uk.com subdomain (scientifica.uk.com). Now, at the end of each page title, Google is automatically adding 'Scientifica - UK.COM'. So a lot of our results now appear as [Page title] - Scientifica - UK.COM It looks a bit a mess and I'm worried about our CTR. Can anyone shed some light on this or know how to stop it? Thank you WbCO0BM

Is Sitemap Issue Causing Duplicate Content & Unindexed Pages on Google?
On July 10th my site was migrated from Drupal to Google. The site contains approximately 400 pages. 301 permanent redirects were used. The site contains maybe 50 pages of new content. Many of the new pages have not been indexed and many pages show as duplicate content. Is it possible that there is a site map issue that is causing this problem? My developer believes the map is formatted correctly, but I am not convinced. The sitemap address is http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/page-sitemap.xml [^] I am completely non technical so if anyone could take a brief look I would appreciate it immensely. Thanks,

Any idea why I can't add a Panoramio image link to my Google Places page?
Hey guys & gals! Last week, I watched one of the Pro Webinars on here related to Google Places. Since then, I have begun to help one of my friends with his GP page to get my feet wet. One of the tips from the webinar was to geotag images in Panoramio to use for your images on the Places page. However, when I try to do this, I just get an error that says they can't upload it at this time. I tried searching online for answers, but the G support pages that I have found where someone asks the same question, there is no resolution. Can anyone help? PS - I would prefer not to post publicly the business name, URL, etc. So, if that info is needed, I can PM. Thanks a lot!

Blocking Pages Via Robots, Can Images On Those Pages Be Included In Image Search
Hi! I have pages within my forum where visitors can upload photos. When they upload photos they provide a simple statement about the photo but no real information about the image, definitely not enough for the page to be deemed worthy of being indexed. The industry however is one that really leans on images and having the images in Google Image search is important to us. The url structure is like such: domain.com/community/photos/~username~/picture111111.aspx I wish to block the whole folder from Googlebot to prevent these low quality pages from being added to Google's main SERP results. This would be something like this: User-agent: googlebot Disallow: /community/photos/ Can I disallow Googlebot specifically rather than just using User-agent: * which would then allow googlebot-image to pick up the photos? I plan on configuring a way to add meaningful alt attributes and image names to assist in visibility, but the actual act of blocking the pages and getting the images picked up... Is this possible? Thanks! Leona
