My website disappears off google!
-
So this might be kinda of a weird question... Every morning and night I check the ranking of a website that I am building.. The ranking has gone up a lot the last two months. It went from the fifth page to now the second page. I have a issue where some days I check Google my website is completely gone! I go through every page for my keyword and it's not there! After a couple of days of frustration I check again and all of a sudden it is there but now at a higher ranking... I went through the code to make sure there's a not a not follow code in the robots.txt page... Btw another weird thing is so then I look up my website on a google out of country like google.sg and I'm ranking first page like number 5 but again disappeared off google usa. Literally driving my crazy.. does anyone know why this could be? Btw the first time it disappeared I went into webmasters and sent a request because I thought I got penalized but they responded they could not find any spam and I was NOT penalized...

I have the same issue - but I've stopped getting stressed about it.
I've noticed that when my site disappears it comes back stronger a couple of days later. I can't say that I'm substaintially changing the site but as a Moz user it's slightly improving all the time and I've been removing spammy back links. It feels like Google spiders the site and is shocked at the improvements and kills it for a couple of days.

Hey!
Thanks! My hosting plan is Godaddy so I'll check up on that. I'm going to work on my linkbuilding so maybe that will stabilize it! It's weird because the rankings don't go up and down... they go disappear then up! Also you're right it could be tests because for the keyword I was using there were some spammy websites (I was livid because I was like wait... google chose THIS over me??) but those has disappeared it seems like. Hopefully my page will stay there now!
Thanks for all of your help! I really appreciate it!!!

I believe there could be two or three reasons why this is happening... and maybe not all are in your control!
This kind of actions usually happens when your hosting company is having a problem like they are not been able to provide you a 100% of uptime. Please check and if this is the problem the only recommendation is to change your hosting server!
May be your link profile or on-page areas are weak, if this is the case try to get some solid links... this has happened to me in the past, I had a client with risky link profile (but not too risky to get penalized by Google) and he was keep bouncing up and down in rankings. If this is the case then you probably know your plan!
May be Google is testing things with your niche related quires (this is happening with your website only or with other results as well?) If Google is up to test... then there is nothing you can do about it! J
Hope this helps!

Chris,
Over 5 times this has happened. I feel like I'm getting PUNK'D. Yes traffic declines on those days then picks up. And no changes on the website lol literally just poof gone out of thin air for a couple of days then comes back
Bill,
I've tried both! I used incognito and I also have a VPN that changes my I.P address every couple of hours and I've been logged in. I've also checked on completely different networks like my office or my home..
My rankings on other search engines stay the same, it's only on google where it's been weird.

Are you logged in doing the search or are you searching through an incognito window?
-
Any drops in traffic during those times? How many times has it disappeared? If you made substantial changes to the pages that were showing up in the results (content, navigation, programming), that could possibly cause such a thing.
-
Chris,
The domain is 4 years old. I took over our companys website and rebuilt it... Any other ideas on what it could be?
-
Becca,
That wouldn't be too strange if it's very new and since you say that you're building it, I assume that it is. If it's older than a couple of months, it would be strange. Getting some links and some social media activity going for it would probably work to stabilize things for you.

Massive unexplained organic traffic drop; disappeared from Google
Hi there,
Search Behavior | | katelynroberts
Our site has experienced a huge organic traffic drop, specifically from Google. The drop occurred on Feb 19 and I've got no clue why it happened. We have not made any significant changes to the website and it doesn't look like there was an algorithm update last week. We don't have any Google penalties or indexing issues noted, and the drop isn't specific to any particular segment/region/keyword. What am I missing? Any advice or insight is super duper appreciated. Our site is a Wordpress/WooCommerice e-commerce site with a blog and long-standing #1 ranks for keywords related to our main product offering. Screen Shot 2024-02-26 at 3.12.25 PM.png

Are there better & inexpensive third party website analytics software over Google Analytics?
I've heard there are some third-party software that provide greater depth of information than Google Analytics, such as mouse tracking, heat mapping, video snapshots ect. Can anyone recommend a good program to use? I've tried a basic web-search but there seems to be a great variety of different ones.

Google reconsideration nightmare
Hello and thanks in advance The website has had a penalty on it for a while now, around 10 months, it was worked on by an agency who bought bad links to it but before then it was worked on by other agencies that may have done the same. I cleaned up as many bad link (according to many posts read) and filled for reconsideration and was told to get rid of a whole bunch of links which i did not know existed. Downloaded WMT links as instructed by Google admin person and contacted a heap of people which took a lot of man hours and cost us a fortune. Resubmitted and again was shown a handful of links by the Google admin person and told to contact and remove. The funny thing is that a few of them I disavowed in my list so they should not have pointed these out. I emailed back and showed that everything I could do was done and am happy to disavow any other link which they though violated their terms. This was not enough and I was told to show more efforts in removing links and then resubmit for reconsideration. I have done as much as I can on the website, I cannot see any more links which show violation, if there are some I am happy to remove but am now at a stage where i need direction from others to tackle this matter. Any advice would be helpful; I cannot start over from scratch as it's a brand and not a small website.

Does Google recognise locality
We have been undertaking some website work recently and have identified that within our own geographical location of Hull, the www.styletech.co.uk website is first on page one. However, when moving approximately 30 miles away we are on Googles fourth page. We are in an independent network area e.g. Kingston Communications rather than BT, would this have an impact on how Google responds?

Google Instant Search? REALLY?! Why is this the result???
First, this is one I thought I would never ask, but: Could this be true? I had noticed my MacBook Pro was eating some power and wanted to see if I could optimize my settings so to take advantage what battery life was available. (I swear that is the truth). So, I am at a Starbucks on someone and typed into Google search bar the following query - Best way to conserve - and, received the following instant search results before I could type - power on a macbook pro I am not putting it here as I want you to ask yourself what came up. I have attached a screenshot. My colleague arrived and without prompting she retried and got the same. So I am curious: Do you get the same result and why do you think that result is so predominant? This is funny. efuts.png

Google Places rankings go away, but organic rankings stay the same / get better?
Hello, I hope you all can help me out here with the information I could provide. Anyways, the past number of months I have had 1 of our clients rank extremely high organically and on Google places. For example: My client is a law firm so if you search “CLIENTS-TOWN Attorney” they would come up organically on the first page and if you were in that town and search “CLIENTS-TOWN Attorney” or even just “Attorney” they would also come up in the Google Places list. Now for some reason starting a week ago I noticed they have completely disappeared from Google Places. No changes have been done to their site and everything is the same as it was. Their organic searches are the same if not better than before. Do you guys have any clue as to why this happened and how I could possibly turn this around? Thanks for your help in advance!

Google Analytics Benchmarking Newsletter: How does your site perform?
With Google recently releasing benchmarking data I am curious as to what you all see across the various types of website niches that you work with (eCommerce, news, blog, services, small business, etc). And how SEO'd websites compare with this "raw" data provided by google. We have one medium size (12,000 products) strictly eCommerce website that has a bounce rate of 37% and an avg time on site of 5:20 While two other medium size eCommerce/blog sites have a bounce rate of 57% and 59% with average time on site of 2:37 and 2:30 respectively. Finally, I manage a website for a local small business that provides business and home cleaning services. This site has a bounce rate of 45% and 1:40 average time on site. How do your sites perform in these areas? Is it typical to see this great of a disparity between strict eCommerce websites and those sites that are both informational and transactional in nature? What about other kinds of websites? Cheers!
