Near-duplicate content for landing pages - use noindex?
-
We want to create 5-10 near-duplicates of our homepage to use as landing pages – nearly all same text, but some different images. We want to make sure Google doesn't ding us for duplicate content. Is the best way to do that to tag each of these pages with "noindex"?
-
Hi Daniel,
Might I suggest using a tool to customize the content according to the referral? So that you can keep the same URL and the same page will receive all the link juice if you get any back links.
However, creating different pages with noindex will work too.
-
Yeah, our home page gives our value proposition really well and converts well but we want different versions to highlight different things.

Hey Daniel,
You might be looking to use these landing pages for PPC. Just make them "nonindex" through robot to avoid duplicate issues with your website! Please make sure that it will be implemented with care.

Like Tommy above just said but you might have a reason for doing the homepage as the landing page so just noindex it, assuming they are just direct traffic landing pages

Hi,
If you say near-duplicate and think it looks duplicate, then it is probably duplicate content in Google's eye. If your page doesn't provide any unique content to the users, i would noindex the page.
Why are you using your homepage as landing pages. Why not create a landing page that provides unique content and information to visitors and convert on the spot?

Adwords Duplicate Keywords with Different Match Types - Good or Bad?
If you have the following keywords in an Ad Group advertising for a product, let's for example call it "target" product [target product] "target product" +target +product I've found that the exact match keyword has the highest conversion rate in almost all circumstances. So it would make sense to have a higher max bid on the exact match then phrase or broad batch. Even with lots of negative search terms to maximize conversion on the broader matches, if the bid is the same as exact match, the cost per conversion will be much higher (too high.) However in chatting with an Adwords Support Rep (on a different matter) they stated after looking through my account at the end of the chat: " duplicate keywords will impact on quality score. your all keywords will compete with each other" However many of the ad groups in question these duplicate keywords have quality score of 9 and 10. So obviously if there is an effect it seems it may be minimal. I thought it was pretty common for people to bid higher on more exact match and lower on more broad match. What's the real story here? Was this support rep not seeing the big picture?

Best Apps for Tracking Google Analytics, Facebook Pages, and More?
Hi! I'm looking for an iPhone app that I can set up for a client so that he can view data from Google Analytics and Facebook (new "likes," "shares", etc). Is there any such thing? I'm not a big Apple user, but he is, and I'd like to find something that would work well for him. Thanks!

Looking to syndicate content - can't use PR Web or Outbrain URGENT!
I have a client in urgent need. They have a blog that they are trying to syndicate and drive traffic towards. Their blogs rest on individual URL's and their topics are loosely connected to the gaming industry. We are using PR Web and planned on using Outbrain to drive traffic, but the topics got pulled due to content restrictions. Any suggestions of tools I can use to help syndicate their blogs? Any and all recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated!

Content Network Clicks Not Count as Paid Search
So I've been noticing that the "searches" being recorded in Omniture for my paid search campaigns are closer to the total number of clicks that I get on my "search" campaign. However, when I look at the total number of clicks the discrepancy between the two is high...I'm talking 30 to 40% difference.... So I was thinking that perhaps neither Omniture nor Google Analytics really count clicks coming from the "Content Network" as searches or visits? Would anyone agree to this, or does anyone have any other clever ideas? Thanks!! -Margarita

Report site for duplicate content
Hi All, I know that when a site is using duplicate content (my content) I can report it to Google and have them removed from the index, contact the hosting provider, etc But I was wondering if there is anything I can do to have Google shutdown their PPC campaign? Thanks!

Keyword domains for AdWords - duplicate content an issue
Hi guys, A client of mine has bought a raft of keyword domains for use in an AdWords campaign. This isn't my area of expertise, hence the question. They have a hosting account which can host an unlimited number of domains. Can they set up the domains with the same content on each site and then use AdWords to drive traffic to the sites? I've suggested they can use rel="canonical" to specify that the preferred site is the main site of the company which should bypass the duplicate content issue. Is this the best way to host the sites or is there a better alternative? Thanks in advance, Brendan.
