Yoast seo title question
-
I was referred to this plugin and have found it to be the most irritating and poorly designed plugin in the world.
I want to be able to set my titles without it changing my page headers as well.
For instance -
If I set my title to be "This is my article name | site name" it will make my H1 tag read the same. I do not want or desire this nonsense. Why would they think this is something wise? Why would I want my site name on every single H1 tag on my site?
How can I fix this? I only want my title to be my title. I want my H1 tag to remain the post/page name that I define in wordpress.

Hey Noah,
Ray's comment above is correct but might be unclear. Yoast handles this the way you want - you've got a theme issue. This code is wrong:
if(!wp_title("",false)) { echo bloginfo( 'title');} ?>
This tells Wordpress to output "page title - blog name" as the H1. Yoast isn't interfering in that. You'll want your H1 to say this:
-
Ahh I see! Yeah each of them have their ups and downs. In my experience I've come to the conclusion that AIO does things in a much cleaner fashion. And for us it just works better. Nothing bad or wrong with Yoast, I guess it is simply a preference thing.
I don't believe you can disable specific features in Yoast but if anyone else has experience with that, please feel free to chime in. Inquiring minds would like to know
-
I just turned off AIO. I prefer it for titles and stuff. But yoast had the rel canonical function that I needed. I wish there was a way to turn off parts of yoast
-
Hey Noah Glaser!
We've also experienced issues with Yoast. Have you tried using All in One SEO Pack? I am sure there are good and bad that come along with this one as well but in my experience, AIO is much cleaner and a more useful tool that Yoast. Hope this helps in some way! Good luck!
-
Sorry, my response was unclear. The theme is choosing to use the wrong title for the H1 which results in both the <title>tag and the <h1> tag being the same.</p> <p>As Oleg pointed out above, you'll want to update the theme to use the function mentioned to keep them separate.</p></title>
-
use the_title(); for the H1 tag instead
Not sure what that other code does... if(!wp_title("",false)) { echo bloginfo( 'title');} ?>
if no title set, show blog title? what pages would this affect?
-
That is how I want it. I want my H1 to be the name of the page or post. I do not want it to be the title tag though. So that again is going back to something with yoast. Why is it insisting on changing my page title to the title tag
-
That's seems like your themes error - they set the h1 to be the same as the page title.
-
I have modified the auto-generated tags. I want to include my site name at the end of the titles but cannot do so if it will place it in my headers too. And that is what is currently happening.
-
I am editing the "SEO Title" and that is what is changing my headers too.
This is my header theme code
if(!wp_title("",false)) { echo bloginfo( 'title');} ?>
So yoast is somehow overwriting this code to make it the same as my "seo title"
-
The plugin doesn't affect any H1 tags at all.
I'm guessing that you are inputting the SEO title into the wrong section. Name you post whatever you want regularly (this will be your H1), then scroll down to the Yoast section and change the field called SEO Title (which will only change your title tag).
If its doing something else, then the problem is with your theme.
-
Hi Noah - Sorry to hear that you're having difficulty with Yoast. TBH, Yoast is the best WordPress SEO plugin out there and is very effective when used properly.
Have you adjusted the general settings so that the auto-generated titles are to your liking? The H1 tag ends of being the Post/Page Title that is manually entered when editing the post/page.
Also, make sure that your screen options, on the edit page, are set to show the Yoast SERP simulator. There you can further adjust the SEO settings to yours needs.
I agree, your Page Title and the H1 tag should be different - targeted towards the same topic, but creatively different to get the most benefit.

In our reports we get alt tag errors for our banner images. We are unable to add alt tags to the banner images as they live inside CSS. We can add a title tag on the div title for the banner. Does that help with SEO and accessibility?

Links Questions and advice?
I have a website which has a fair few link assets that are doing very well (a lot of really powerful sites have link to them with follow links) but my commercial pages are not doing as well as a lot of sites without any other investment than (mediocre) links direct to there commercial pages with at least 10% of them carrying the money anchor text. Even pages we have had a few links for with generalized real anchor text and reasonable links do not do as well as the above due to none of them carrying the money keyword? Is it me or does google still rely on links to the commercial page and keywords with anchor text to match the money term?

Parallax and Title Tags
I've noticed an issue with our site, which uses parallax on multiple pages. Here is an example: If you search for About SQL Sentry, you get the correct title tag and description If you search for SQL Sentry Careers (which is on the about us page) it appears that Google has made up a title tag and description for it. Is there any way to force a separate title tag for a part of a parallax page?

Page title inconsistency
Hi folks, Our agency rebranded from New Brand Vision to Decibel Digital a few weeks ago. Most things seem to be fine, 301 redirected the site and our site looks much better however there is one issue. When searching for our responsive site using my Iphone5, the page title appears as "New Brand Vision", even though "New Brand Vision" isn't within the source code. Our page title is <title></span><span data-mce-mark="1">Creative Digital Agency in London | Decibel Digital </span><span class="html-tag" data-mce-mark="1"></title> which is picked up on Desktop, but not through mobile search when sourcing our responsive site. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks!

Domain and Sitemap Question
Hi - I am hoping you can help me with this issue we are currently trying to solve. We are hosting our mobile site's content on a different domain than what the URL of the site is, though owned by same company. In Google Webmasters tool we have the mobile sitemap under "sitemaps.xyz.com", however the URL of the site is "m.xyz.com". We have submitted 60MM pages in the mobile sitemap, but only 1MM pages have been indexed. Do you think this set up causes confusion with the bots? Does this affect the crawlability of the site? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Information Architecture Question
I've got a site architecture / branding / SEO question for my own site (http://www.strikemodels.com/). In brief, the site sells kits and accessories for model warships that shoot and sink each other. My husband (Stephen) runs the business, and makes many of the parts we sell in our workshop/garage. Stephen wants to have a section where he talks about the equipment he is building/ using, and give updates on each of the pieces. This is equipment we use to make products, not equipment that we sell. For example, he's building an EDM machine, and getting a plastic injection molding machine and an ultrasonic welder up and running. We have a blog section where we post about updates about items that we sell, how to use our products, etc. This is more of a place for him to talk about what he's doing in the shop, and would also serve in future years as something he could point people to regarding his skills as an engineer if needed. I'm looking for opinions and options as to where to put this. Is there a way to use a different category in the blog and have items in the blog show up under a different page if they're in the "Stephen's Corner" category? Other options would be a separate site just for that, or to do threads on the a forum dedicated to the hobby. I'd prefer to keep things on our own site to keep all of the benefits together. Thoughts on structure or ways to make this work? Things I hadn't thought about? Thanks!

Victim of negative SEO
Hello, I'm one of those people that got the "unnatural links" message from google. Since i run my site from the very first day and always was a one man business i know all the ins and outs of the website.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Henkiepenkie
Basicly i have never ever used a seo company to submit my site anywhere.
Never ever i used any shady tactic to get better ranks.
The only thing i did was trading traffic/links with real active websites, being daily updated, high traffic, etc etc. So. After i got notified in webmaster tools i started digging into a list (provided by webmaster tools) to find out why i got this message (meanwhile i lost 75% of my se traffic in past 3 months) After searching for hours i found out that in the past 2 / 3 months my site has been spammed on about 150 forums (completely dead forums with nothing but spam on it) There was no logic at all since my site got linked with the most ridiculous and unlogical word phrases.
My site is adult related and all spam links contained word phrases like "bangladesh mobile" or "rock girl" or "animal abuse" or "ringtones" etc etc. if i ever would be so stupid to start spamming my 7 year old strong business i would at least use titles that would make sence. anyway.
I can't do nothing about these forums, i don't own them, i can't erase them and if there are any owners, they simply don't respond.
I made a list of all the forums and send it to google but the only response they come up with is "there are still unnatural links". I hardly believe they did anything with that list i send them. I don't know what else i can do and was hoping that somebody could advice me on what to do here besides sending google messages on a daily base. cheers0 -
