Blog - on the domain or place on separate site, now that Panda ranks for bounce, TOP, depth of visit

Over 10 years ago, we decided to run our blog external to our main website. contrary to conventional wisdom then, we thought we’d have more control/opps for generating external anchor text links, plus working in a bona fide blog software environment (WP). As we had hoped, the blog generated alot of strong inbound links, captured inbound links of it own from other sites and I think, helped improve our SERPs and traffic. Once the blog was established and with the redesign of the website, we capitulated, and finally moved the blog onto the main domain.
After reading a number of pieces on Panda and the new reality of SEO, sounds like bounce rates (in particular), time on page, and other GA measures may have a more profound influence on google rankings now. Given that blogs are notoriously for high bounce rates (ours is), low time on site, depth of visit, seems logical that it adversely affects our site averages for the main domain). Is it time to re-consider pulling our blog off the main domain to reassert the ‘true’ GA measures of the main domain?
I guess it still gets down to the question... is the advantage of all the inbound links to the blog on the main domain of greater value than moving the blog off-site and reasserting better 'site stats' for google's pando algo?

Sorry. Didn't mean anything by that. Lesser quality didn't mean poor quality. YOUmoz has great content. The main blog has even better content. And there are exceptions to every rule.

Hey Thomas, I just wanted to jump in here on this side topic.
I'd hardly say that YOUmoz is a lesser quality blog, in fact many of our top posts each month/year come from YOUmoz. We do our best to keep the posts that show up in YOUmoz, as good of quality as the ones you see on the main blog. Obviously not everyone will agree on this, but I wanted to add my 2 cents. Thanks! -

I have found it beneficial to have a separate offsite blog. But that is how we built our sites original. Honestly, I think having an offsite blog allows you a little more flexibility. You can be a little more aggressive and shelter some of the risk. But you do give up some of your direct linking advantage by hosting a separate blog. In the past year we have opted to have an onsite blog and an offsite blog. We are hoping to target different audiences with the two blogs.
If you do opt to move to an offsite blog you could still capitalize on the inbound links you currently have to your blog but consolidating your posts and then providing outbound links to your new blog. I believe google penalizes most for bounce rates back to the search engine and much less for bounces forward.
It sounds like you understand the advantages of both... so I would say that you are the best qualified to make that decision for your business.

In my opinion, this was a good decision. Now all of the links that hit the blog are directly hitting your important website.

Before I move the blog from the main domain I would attack this problem with....

Improved content that grabs and engages the visitor

Improved design that lures the visitor to explore other content on your site. Text links in the blog posts to related content on your site, seductive "related boxes" full of thumbnail images and links to more, "most popular" boxes to market your best content to the visitor. Visit a popular news site because many of them are experts at getting more engagement from their visitors.
Finally, look at where does SEOmoz have their blog? In a folder on their own domain. Look at the content on that blog... those articles blow your socks off with their depth, detail, illustrations, expertise and community engagement. What type of content can you generate related to your industry that is similar? I don't know what you have on your blog but maybe you should post less often but with greater quality?

Why is it that some site rank with zero efforts? I have been working on some seo for a while on my main site and i have been getting more info competition analysis with sem and moz. Looking at the states from this website which tends to popup often in the searches on page 1-2 before my site. This site is not keyword optimized, meaning they arent even trying to rank.

There is no content, articles etc.,
6 backlinks (nothing powerful just 2 directory links and 2 from developer)

PA 32 DA 20 They do get a good bit of traffic but that is probably the only thing i would see but it would be direct traffic mostly i believe as it would be people going to order regularly since it is a print reseller. They may have some age on me 15 vs 8 years. Could it be some kind of penalty i am not sure about lingering? According to what i know to check everyything looks ok, no shady links accoding to sem. I am working more and more on all the pages but this competittion site really doesnt have crap going on probably 8 pages and 1 page does all the ordering. Move a blog from a domain to a new domain in the same hosting server
I have the need to find the best solution to move my viverezen.org blog on new domain naturazen.org because somebody stolen my brand. Now I registererd brand NaturaZen and I am going to use this website as main and have the old viverezen just to point in the new website I dont want lose autority and more important I dont want lose the 500 visits I have everyday. Both domain are under same hosting company What is best SEO solution you can give me to help? I thought to point the hosting on new domain naturazen and put all link with redirect 301 on viverezen but probably I am wrong stuck_out_tongue thanks for your help

How to implement three languages with a subfolder /blog on a .com domain?
Hi, I'm setting up a blog for a client that has a .com domain. The client is targeting three languages with the subfolder /de, /nl and /en. We've also established that a blog rather be used in a subfolder than subdomain. My question: How should we implement the three languages? Is this gonna be a domain.com/blog/en or domain.com/en/blog or would you maybe don't use subfolders for language at all but let a hreflang do the job?

Is My site seeing a Google Dance ? - Rankings all over the place
My eCommerce website is seeing some rankings flucuate daily from say rank 20 to rank 130 whilst some other keywords ago up and down by as much as 40 places. I have been putting up alot of new unique content and can see in GWT that google has been crawling my site more but given that I was affected by the google panda updates which saw a 40% drop in traffic I'm only just to recover some of it., i have also been trying to get rid of any poor links and our linking building is only concentrating on high quality posts and links. I am wondering if this is the post panda update - "google dance" or is google having issues trying to work where to rank my site and possibly punish me? thanks Sarah.

One Website, Multiple Top-level Domains
I have two clients, both of which have a single website, with multiple top-level domains, many of which represent "subpages". For example, when you navigate to the home page, the URL is "[CompanyName].com". However, when you navigate to a subpage, the browser appears to remain at the same website, but in actuality (as you can tell from the URL bar) you've navigated to "SubPage.com". Client A is an insurance company that has multiple branded insurance products. Each product is independent of the other (it's unlikely that a single client would purchase multiple insurance products from different brands) and have their own brand. Thusly, each section of the site that represents a different brand has its own top-level domain. The website design/structure remains the same, with some light color changes and image swaps. Client B is a consultant and offers various services. None of these services are "branded" (a single client would hire the consultant for a wide range of available services). Each subpage on the site represents a different service and has its own top-level domain. Here are my questions: Are either Client A or B breaking guidelines set forth by major search engines? Are either Client A or B hurting their optimization with this trickery? My inclination is that Client A is doing it right, but Client B is not. Your insights would be appreciated!

Can a domain rank for a competitive term with no links?
Hi, I know that this topic has received a lot of attention recently (Not all of it good) and I am not normally one to re-open a can of worms but the whole 'Camper Mens Shoes' fiasco has got me thinking. If you're not familiar with the story then you can get the highlights of it here - http://martinmacdonald.net/the-curios-case-of-camper-shoes/ My question is this - Say that you had a domain (Domain A) that was ranking well for a competitve keyword and that it had a good backlink profile. If you used rel="canonical" on every page of Domain A to point to a duplicate site on a different domain (Domain B) , would Domain B then rank well in place of Domain A? I know that this probably doesn't have much practical use but I am trying to get a better understanding of the effect of using rel="canonical" Would the result of doing the above mean that Domain B would rank well without having any links pointing directly to it?
