      Hello,

Can anyone help me find a solution to Fixing and Creating Magento CMS pages to only use one URL  and not two URLS?

      www.domain.com/testpage

      www.domain.com/testpage/

I found a previous article that applies to my issue, which is using htaccess to redirect request for pages in magento 301 redirect to slash URL from the non-slash URL.  I dont understand the syntax fully in htaccess , but I used this code below.

This code below fixed the CMS page redirection but caused issues on other pages, like all my categories and products with this error:

"This webpage has a redirect loop

      ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS"

Assuming you're running at domain root.  Change to working directory if needed.

      RewriteBase /

      # www check

If you're running in a subdirectory, then you'll need to add that in

      to the redirected url (http://www.mydomain.com/subdirectory/$1

      RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www. [NC]
      RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

      Trailing slash check

      Don't fix direct file links

      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f

      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.)/$
      RewriteRule ^(.
      )$ $1/ [L,R=301]

Finally, forward everything to your front-controller (index.php)

      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
      RewriteRule .* index.php [QSA,L]

301's are not difficult for me, but handling the code for a logic to re-route requests for "URL" to "URL/" is something I dont know how to do. I can manually 301 or rel canonical my CMS pages on Magento everytime, but that defeats the purpose or the automation in htaccess I am trying to get working.

        thanks

          Thank You Kevin.

This is almost the default Magento htaccess file(out of the box), I think I had a couple entries to fix a couple other issues, the code I just added that isnt working is in the middle of the htaccess, its commented starting with this: ** "## slash removal re-write done by ALEX MEADE for iamgreenminded.com**

You probably have other redirects in your .htaccess and possibly in your website code. The order of your rewrites is also important. Publish your Apache config and I'll take a look.

FYI, there are better resources for technical issue than MOZ. Most here are not developers/IT specialists; we're more like SEO strategists and business managers.

Yes, server redirects are necessary. Try these solutions to see which one works for you:

                http://ralphvanderpauw.com/seo/how-to-301-redirect-a-trailing-slash-in-htaccess/

                http://enarion.net/web/htaccess/trailing-slash/

You might want to consider moving to Nginx. You'll notice amazing speed and stability improvement with Nginx, Redis Session Cache, Memcached, OpCache, Ngx_pagespeed, and Magento Cache Storage Management. I can help much more with Nginx redirects and conf files--I gave up Apache years ago. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

                  Removing duplicate content

Due to URL changes and parameters on our ecommerce sites, we have a massive amount of duplicate pages indexed by google, sometimes up to 5 duplicate pages with different URLs. 1. We've instituted canonical tags site wide. 2. We are using the parameters function in Webmaster Tools. 3. We are using 301 redirects on all of the obsolete URLs 4. I have had many of the pages fetched so that Google can see and index the 301s and canonicals. 5. I created HTML sitemaps with the duplicate URLs, and had Google fetch and index the sitemap so that the dupes would get crawled and deindexed. None of these seems to be terribly effective. Google is indexing pages with parameters in spite of the parameter (clicksource) being called out in GWT. Pages with obsolete URLs are indexed in spite of them having 301 redirects. Google also appears to be ignoring many of our canonical tags as well, despite the pages being identical. Any ideas on how to clean up the mess?

                  Woocommerce SEO & Duplicate content?

Hi Moz fellows, I'm new to Woocommerce and couldn't find help on Google about certain SEO-related things. All my past projects were simple 5 pages websites + a blog, so I would just no-index categories, tags and archives to eliminate duplicate content errors. But with Woocommerce Product categories and tags, I've noticed that many e-Commerce websites with a high domain authority actually rank for certain keywords just by having their category/tags indexed. For example keyword 'hippie clothes' = etsy.com/category/hippie-clothes (fictional example) The problem is that if I have 100 products and 10 categories & tags on my site it creates THOUSANDS of duplicate content errors, but If I 'non index' categories and tags they will never rank well once my domain authority rises... Anyone has experience/comments about this? I use SEO by Yoast plugin. Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. -Marc

Is a different location in page title, h1 title, and meta description enough to avoid Duplicate Content concern?

I have a dynamic website which will have location-based internal pages that will have a <title>and <h1> title, and meta description tag that will include the subregion of a city.  Each page also will have an 'info' section describing the generic product/service offered which will also include the name of the subregion.  The 'specific product/service content will be dynamic but in some cases will be almost identical--ie subregion A may sometimes have the same specific content result as subregion B.  Will the difference of just the location put in each of the above tags be enough for me to avoid a Duplicate Content concern?</p></title>

Where to put a page ID in a URL?

Hello, My company is going to change URLs to example.com/category or example.com/product. When we will change the URLs to product or category pages somehow we have to check whether the requested page is from category table in DB or from products table (this gives much speed to page load time). So we have to choose how to make the different product and category pages.
Programmers said that we need to insert id to URL. So the question is: Which is the better way to place an id to an URL? example.com/product-name?id=111 example.com/product-name/111 example.com/product_name-111 Or maybe we should use some other punctuation mark to separate id from product name? p.s. I have read Dynamic URLs vs. static URLs by Google and it still didn't answered which is the best for all of the pages. Somehow others solve this problem by typing only the names to the URL, but could anyone tell what that technology should be?

Copying my Facebook content to website considered duplicate content?

I write career advice on Facebook on a daily basis. On my homepage users can see the most recent 4-5 feeds (using FB social media plugin). I am thinking to create a page on my website where visitors can see all my previous FB feeds. Would this be considered duplicate content if I copy paste the info, but if I use a Facebook social media plugin then it is not considered duplicate content? How to Remove Joomla Canonical and Duplicate Page Content

I've  attempted to follow advice from the Q&A section. Currently on the site www.cherrycreekspine.com, I've edited the .htaccess file to help with 301s - all pages redirect to www.cherrycreekspine.com. Secondly, I'd added the canonical statement in the header of the web pages. I have cut the Duplicate Page Content in half ... now  I have a remaining 40 pages to fix up. This is my practice site to try and understand what SEOmoz can do for me. I've looked at some of your videos on Youtube ... I feel like I'm scrambling around to the Q&A and the internet to understand this product. I'm reading the beginners guide.... any other resources would be helpful.

Multiple URLs for the same page

I am working with a client and recently discovered that they have several URLs that go to the same page. http://www.maps.com/FunFacts.aspx
                  http://www.maps.com/funfacts.aspx
                  http://www.maps.com/FunFacts.aspx?nav=FF
                  http://www.maps.com/FunFacts.aspx?nav=FS
                  http://www.maps.com/funfacts.aspx?nav=FF
                  http://www.maps.com/funfacts.aspx?nav=ffhttp://www.maps.com/FunFacts.aspx?nav=MShttp://www.maps.com/funfacts.aspx?nav=
                  http://www.maps.com/FunFacts.aspx?nav=FF#
                  http://www.maps.com/FunFacts
http://www.maps.com/funfacts.aspx?.nav=FF I am afraid this is happening all over the site. So, my question is: Is this hurting the SEO and how? If so what is the best way to go about fixing this problem? Thanks for your help!

Capitals in url creates duplicate content?

Hey Guys, I had a quick look around however I couldn't find a specific answer to this. Currently, the SEOmoz tools come back and show a heap of duplicate content on my site. And there's a fair bit of it. However, a heap of those errors are relating to random capitals in the urls. for example. "www.website.com.au/Home/information/Stuff" is being treated as duplicate content of "www.website.com.au/home/information/stuff" (Note the difference in capitals). Anyone have any recommendations as to how to fix this server side(keeping in mind it's not practical or possible to fix all of these links) or to tell Google to ignore the capitalisation? Any help is greatly appreciated. LM.
