Few pages without SSL
-
Hi,
A website is not fully secured with a SSL certificate.
Approx 97% of the pages on the website are secured.A few pages are unfortunately not secured with a SSL certificate, because otherwise some functions on those pages do not work.
It's a website where you can play online games. These games do not work with an SSL connection.
Is there anything we have to consider or optimize?
Because, for example when we click on the secure lock icon in the browser, the following notice.
Your connection to this site is not fully secured Can this harm the Google ranking?Regards,
Tom -
It may potentially affect the rankings on:
-
pages without SSL
-
pages linking to pages without SSL
At first, not drastically - but you'll find that you'll get more and more behind until you had wished you just embraced HTTPS.
The exception to this of course, is if no one who is competing over the same keywords, is fully embracing SSL. If the majority of the query-space's ranking sites are insecure, even though Google frowns upon that - there's not much they can do (they can't just rank no one!)
So you need to do some legwork. See if your competitors suffer from the same issue. If they all do, maybe don't be so concerned at this point. If they're all showing signs of fully moving over to HTTPS, be more worried

Just to be sure, i would secure every page with an SLL certificate. When Google finds out that not every page is secure, this it may raise some eyebrows and even effect the whole site.

Yes that can hurt Google rankings. Insecure pages tend to rank less well and over time, that trend is only set to increase (with Google becoming less and less accepting of insecure pages, eventually they will probably be labelled a 'bad neighborhood' like gambling and porn sites). Additionally, URLs which link out to insecure pages (which are not on HTTPS) can also see adverse ranking effects (as Google knows that those pages are likely to direct users to insecure areas of the web)
At the moment, you can probably get by with some concessions. Those concessions would be, accepting that the insecure URLs probably won't rank very well compared with pages offering the same entertainment / functionality, which have fully embraced secure browsing (which are on HTTPS, which are still responsive, which don't link to insecure addresses)
If you're confident that the functionality you are offering, fundamentally can't be offered through HTTPS - then that may be only a minor concern (as all your competitors are bound by the same restrictions). If you're wrong, though - you're gonna have a bad time. Being 'wrong' now, may be more appealing than being 'dead wrong' later
Google will not remove the warnings your pages have, unless you play ball. If you think that won't bother your users, or that your competition is fundamentally incapable of a better, more secure integration - fair enough. Google is set to take more and more action on this over time
P.S: if your main, ranking pages are secure and if they don't directly link to this small subset of insecure pages, then you'll probably be ok (at least in the short term)

Something happened within the last 2 weeks on our WordPress-hosted site that created "duplicates" by counting www.company.com/example and company.com/example (without the 'www.') as separate pages. Any idea what could have happened, and how to fix it?
Our website is running through WordPress. We've been running Moz for over a month now. Only recently, within the past 2 weeks, have we been alerted to over 100 duplicate pages. It appears something happened that created a duplicate of every single page on our site; "www.company.com/example" and "company.com/example." Again, according to our MOZ, this is a recent issue. I'm almost certain that prior to a couple of weeks ago, there existed both forms of the URL that directed to the same page without be counting as a duplicate. Thanks for you help!

Should i redirect this page?
Hi I have the following 2 pages: http://www.over50choices.co.uk/Funeral-Planning.aspx http://www.over50choices.co.uk/Funeral-Planning/Funeral-Plans.aspx My dilema is that google sees the words "funeral planning" & "funeral plans" as the same thing, which might explain why the "funeral plan" page is not ranked v well. My issue is that the "funeral planning" page is at category level and introduces the wider subject of funeral planning, which isnt just funeral plans, so if i 301 my "funeral plan" page i will have no where to talk about funeral plans. My question is, Is the "funeral plan" page not ranked v well because of this or do i just need better optimisation of the funeral plan page so google is clear which is the key focus for each page? Thanks Ash

Redirecting thin content city pages to the state page, 404s or 301s?
I have a large number of thin content city-level pages (possibly 20,000+) that I recently removed from a site. Currently, I have it set up to send a 404 header when any of these removed city-level pages are accessed. But I'm not sending the visitor (or search engine) to a site-wide 404 page. Instead, I'm using PHP to redirect the visitor to the corresponding state-level page for that removed city-level page. Something like: if (this city page should be removed) { header("HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found");
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | rriot
header("Location:http://example.com/state-level-page")
exit();
} Is it problematic to send a 404 header and still redirect to a category-level page like this? By doing this, I'm sending any visitors to removed pages to the next most relevant page. Does it make more sense to 301 all the removed city-level pages to the state-level page? Also, these removed city-level pages collectively have very little to none inbound links from other sites. I suspect that any inbound links to these removed pages are from low quality scraper-type sites anyway. Thanks in advance!2 -
Old pages still in index
Hi Guys, I've been working on a E-commerce site for a while now. Let me sum it up : February new site is launched Due to lack of resources we started 301's of old url's in March Added rel=canonical end of May because of huge index numbers (developers forgot!!) Added noindex and robots.txt on at least 1000 urls. Index numbers went down from 105.000 tot 55.000 for now, see screenshot (actual number in sitemap is 13.000) Now when i do site:domain.com there are still old url's in the index while there is a 301 on the url since March! I know this can take a while but I wonder how I can speed this up or am doing something wrong. Hope anyone can help because I simply don't know how the old url's can still be in the index. 4cArHPH.png

Are pages with a canonical tag indexed?
Hello here, here are my questions for you related to the canonical tag: 1. If I put online a new webpage with a canonical tag pointing to a different page, will this new page be indexed by Google and will I be able to find it in the index? 2. If instead I apply the canonical tag to a page already in the index, will this page be removed from the index? Thank you in advance for any insights! Fabrizio

SEOMOZ crawl all my pages
SEOMOZ crawl all my pages including ".do" (all web pages after sign up ) . Coz of this it finishes all my 10.000 crawl page quota and be exposed to dublicate pages. Google is not crawling pages that user reach after sign up. Because these are private pages for customers I guess The main question is how we can limit SEOMOZ crawl bot. If the bot can stay out of ".do" java extensions it'll perfect to starting SEO analysis. Do you know think about it? Cheers Example; .do java extension (after sign up page) (Google can't crawl) http://magaza.turkcell.com.tr/showProductDetail.do?psi=1001694&shopCategoryId=1000021&model=Apple-iPhone-3GS-8GB Normal Page (Google can crawl) http://magaza.turkcell.com.tr/telefon/Apple-iPhone-3GS-8GB/1001694/.html

Links to images on a page diluting page value?
We have been doing some testing with additional images on a page. For example, the page here:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Peter264
http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/2550/sukhoi-su-27-flanker-package-for-fsx/ Notice the images under the heading Images/Screenshots After adding these images, we noticed a ranking drop for that page (-27 places) in the SERPS. Could the large amount of images - in particular the links on the images (links to the larger versions) be causing it to dilute the value of the actual page? Any suggestions, advice or opinions will be much appreciated.0 -
Category Pages up - Product Pages down... what would help?
Hi I mentioned yesterday how one of our sites was losing rank on product pages. What steps do you take to improve the SERPS of product pages, in this case home/category/product is the tree. There isn't really any internal linking, except one link from the category page to each product, would setting up a host of internal links perhaps "similar products" linking them together be a place to start? How can I improve my ranking of these more deeply internal pages? Not just internal links?
