After more than 13 years, and tens of thousands of questions, Moz Q&A closed on 12th December 2024. Whilst we’re not completely removing the content - many posts will still be possible to view - we have locked both new posts and new replies. More details here.
Many of those we serve view ASAC as a second home and an inclusive family. With the space and services offered, Anchorage area seniors have a place to exercise, socialize and be a productive part of the community. Volunteers and members share that after retirement, they desired a place to be involved. Weekly Social Hour sees between 30 and 60 participants and many express their thanks for a place to get together.
On average, 200 seniors and community members daily are engaged in the thousands of activities each month that include a wide variety of programs.
The following are some of the programs that ASAC offers:
• Fitness Center with Personal Training and Massage
• 42 Aerobic and Anaerobic Classes a week
• Medicare Information Office
• Diabetic Empowerment and Education Program (DEEP)
• Blood Pressure and Glucose Testing
• Cultural Events
• Library
• Computer Lab
• Dances
• Weekly Social Hour with Music and Refreshments
• Art Classes
• Craft and Quilting Room
• Philosophical Discussion Group
ASAC also collaborates with the Anchorage Food Bank to distribute 35-pound non-perishable food boxes monthly to seniors who meet the federal poverty guidelines.
Our efforts to support, educate and connect seniors are growing. Alaska is the state with the fastest growing senior population in the nation for the past five years, and people age 60 and over are the fastest growing demographic in the State.
