RE: Switching Url

Switching Url
I started working with a Roofer/Contractor about a year ago. His website is http://www.lancasterparoofing.com/. The name of his business is Spicher Home Improvements. He used to have spicherhomeimprovements.com, well he still does.
He was focusing on Roofing and Siding but now would like to branch to other areas like Interior remodeling. So adding interior work under LancasterPaRoofing.com is not applicable. I do not think starting another domain and having two is the best option.
I think he should go back to using SpicherHomeImprovements.com and I assume he would take a small hit but in time he should be better off.
Plus the url is more applicable to the real name of his business.
Thanks for any feedback I receive.

RE: 404 errors in wordpress... Pages have never existed so why is google trying to crawl them?
If you are using SEO by Yoast to create your site map there are settings under the SEO -- XML Sitemap. -- then choices on what to exclude. I would try exclude some of these.
If that is the case and you make the change in Yoast, check your robots.txt file to see if the change in reflected there also.
If you check some other websites robots.txt file you can get an idea of how it should be set up.

RE: Wordpress category url problem.
Did you try settings --- permalinks --- then either common settings or optional?
Under optional is says
If you like, you may enter custom structures for your category and tag <abbr title="Universal Resource Locator">URL</abbr>s here. For example, using
topics
as your category base would make your category links likehttp://example.org/topics/uncategorized/
. If you leave these blank the defaults will be used. -
RE: Why should I pay attention to sites that rank well in Bing?
1st your goal is most likely to generate sales or leads for you or your client. If that is the case what does it matter where the lead came from. What matters is finding where your potential customers are and reaching them.
Bing's market share is at 16.3% vs Google 67%. So Bing has 1 out of every 6 search customers.
So by ignoring Bing you are ignoring potential customers.
But when you pay attention to the backlinks from Bing you are diversifying your linking strategy. They saying goes "you should not put all of your eggs in one basket."

RE: Site verification in WMT
You need to verify both your www. version and your non www version of your website.
Then go to the non www. version and "Configuration" then "Settings" then choose your preferred domain.

National Consulting Firm Home Based Business - And Filling Out The GetListed.org Listings
I have mainly focused on SEO for local businesses and one of the 1st steps after optimizing my on page SEO I would attempt to claim all my free listings as those on GetListed.org.
But this client is focusing on a more national market and lists an 800 number on his website.
Should I suggest he display his local number also.
And when I reference his phone number on the Get Listed.org opportunities should I also use his local number?
Thanks
