Thanks Marcus will take you up on that because I have now woke to hundreds of Canonical errors, something has to be wrong with my wordpress, to keep getting so many issues, I am now showing duplicate posts,

Its also showing I have 526 Issue: Rel Canonical.. and its all my pages with different URL's now I haven't touched any plugins or done anything apart from add posts ?

I have work up this morning with a large number of missing meta description, when I looked at th pages (knowing I have to missing metas) I have duplicates of my pages that look like this, These pages normally look like www.finalduties.co.uk/  NAME OF POST now i have urls with numbers in, seems as though all my blog posts have duplicated.. Now could this be down to a wordpress bug? I am so fed up, I had all my errors all cleared up only to wake and have pages like this, which is going to cause me a problem because my pages are now duplicating.. please help, advice needed from someone that knows wordpress?

Yes its very hard for me because my site is probate, so not a very happy subject,

One thing thats curious is I am seeing sites that dont have any backlinks taking over me in the rankings

for example http://www.purelyprobate.co.uk/ they have a site similar to ours and they have a page rank above ours (we lost rank after getting hit by the penguin update)

they have no real linkage,mind boggling when everyone states that linking is the way to go.

There are 700 of them I know its ok to have a few but surely if google keep seeing this amount of pages that aren't there it will Pi** them off??

. What i dont get is these pages (404) have appeared out of no where! the site was good no 404s, no broken links and then boom! 700 ! its madness..

My rankings just get worst, The other day I woke up and had some very positive  keyword changes.. Only to get to today and lose them all. Up and down like yo yo's. I don't even rank for our main keyword "probate" anymore. I worked very hard last year and we were number 7 page 1.. now we arent even in the first 200 search..May have been penalised, but why on earth would google tease me they way they do? One minute everything moves and I have 30 + keywords on page 1 to wake the next day and there be 4 on page one then the next day back up!

We had a problem last year and our site was taken down by accident, I lost a years worth of work as we had no full backup, just a backup of the previous year, Once we were back up and on this is where all our problems started.

How have all these old URL's suddenly have come back?

Ever since the Penguin changes there is so much information online about the right way and wrong way to gather high PR good backlinks.

I am starting to notice a number of websites that have over taken me in the serps that display NO BACKLINKS no media interaction but have a PR of 3 and are displaying on page 1 and 2 for major keywords?

SEO is so confusing post penguin, How are we supposed to know whats wrong and right,??

One expert tells me one thing, another says another?

I have been told backlinking is useless now, I have bought numerous books on post penguin SEO and they also contradict each other.

Does anyone actually have an idea of how to go about getting ranked well now adays, or is every one guessing like me.. Trial and error..

websites offering services OLD SCHOOL SEO link building etc?

If SEO is dead how can these businesses still be focusing on 1000's of directory links etc.

I have targets of around 150 backlinks a month and to get good quality post penguin links I am stuck? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am seeing alot of 404 erros recently but all seem to be pages like

( I know this wpmp_switcher is from a mobile ready plugin we used a while back which has since been removed after duplicating many pages.

also ?wpmp_switcher=desktop is in my robots txt file to help block the robots from crawling these pages and displaying 404's but its still happening, Ihave 700+ 404 errors most ending in feed /tag and ?wpmp_switcher=desktop

Any Ideas I know that 404's aren't that bad but seeing so many this morning I need to figure out why these are coming up all of a sudden. We have been getting these since our site was accidently taken down a while back, trying to figure out why we have lost so many rankings.

we seem to have SERPS like YOYO's from 1 day to the next one keyword goes up but 150 and then next day drops same the next day???any ideas?

Seems SEO posr penguin is one big contadiction, some seo experts give you one bit of advice another gives you another very confsuing.

I have made many mistakes and learnt from them, The first mistake in 2013 is to not google how to do SEO because many of the links and pages are directed at old school SEO from before the penguin and panda updates. Keyword density is now 1% unlike many sites say! Obvioulsy Duplicate content is a no no, asking in here is a start .Do not use keyword stuffing. The mistakes I made worked for me last pre Penguin and i had many pages ranking page 1, but since the Penguin, I have had to clean my site and make sure I have no old school SEO running through it. Some plugins can destroy your rankings my advice would be to double check before adding some new plugin offering amazing results. I have added plugins that have killed certain aspects of my site. Content is king and the new new rules of SEO is social ! The more people that love your content and share the more google appreciate the effort. Depending on what you site is aiming for (Which market) Do not get backlinks from low pr sites, Good backlinks is the key, again you can see online so many companies offering high PR sites backlinks for $20 etc, Stay away, be on control of your own links the atleast you know what you are linking too. Just write amazing content and share share share.

Please how do I make sure these canonicals are working properly, My rankings are getting worst fro long tail and short tail keywords. I am not even ranking for the main keywords "Probate" at all now! Our site is probate, we sell probate, we talk aout probate and now we are out of the top 200???
