I am currently buying link ad spots on sites (hardcoded, not using ad networks).

I track the each link I buy and the sales they generate with query parameters such as : http://www.mydomain.com/?r=top_menu_nav_on_seomoz

My question is : do these links still pass link juice?

I have my canonical already set to http://www.mydomain.com

Also, in Webmaster tools I have it set to ignore anything after /?r=

The way I see it, a link is a link.  Naturally I would prefer to send directly to my root domain, however, these links cost a lot of money and I like to track my results.

Does anyone have experience with SEO and working with query parameters?

You could also try installing the SeoQuake toolbar.  It will give you a quick glimpse into any site's seo info.  Such as its page rank, number of pages indexed, whois and so much more.

It also has a nifty compare feature.

I have an affiliate tracking system that works like this : an affiliate puts up a certain code on his site, for example : www.domain.com/track/aff_id

This url leads to a page where the hit is counted, analysed and then 302 redirects to my sales page with the affiliates ID in the url : www.mysalespage.com/?=aff_id.

However, we've noticed recently that one affiliate seems to be ranking for our own name and the url google indexed was his tracking url (domain.com/track/aff_id).  Which is strange because there is absolutely nothing on that page, its just an interstatial page so that our stats tracking software can properly filter hits.

To remove the affiliate's url from showing up in the serps, I've come up with 2 solutions :

1 - Change the redirect to a 301 redirect on his track page.

2 - Change our robots.txt page to block all domain.com/track/ pages from being indexed.

My question is : if I 301 redirect instead of 302, will I keep the affiliates from outranking me for my own name AND pass on link juice or should I simply block google from crawling the interstatial tracking pages?

Last year one of my bigger sites hit a snaffu.  I was getting about 300k + hits a day from google, and then, when a developper released an update with a robots.txt file that basically blocked google from the entire site.

We didn't notice the bug until a few days later, but by then, it was already too late.  My google traffic dropped to 30k a day and I've been having the hardest time coming back ever since.

As a matter of fact, hundreds of sites that were aggregating my content started outranking me for my own terms.

For over a year, I've been working on building what I lost back and everything seemed to be coming together.   I was back at 100k+ hits a day

Until today... My developpers repeated the exact same error as last year.  They blocked google from crawling my site for over 5 days and now I'm down to 10k se hits a day.

My question :  Has anyone encountered this problem before and what did you do to come back?

I've been trying to read up on this and have found that answers vary greatly, so I figured I'd seek your expertise.

When dealing with the url structure of a site that is translated into multiple languages, is it better SEO wise to structure a site like this : domain.com/en   domain.com/it   etc

or to simply add url modifiers like domain.com/?lang=en   domain.com/?lang=it

In the first example, I'm afraid google might see my content as duplicate even though its in a different language.

Hey Russ, you're right and this is something we're working on.

For years it was standard in our industry to trade links with specific keywords in them, not for seo purposes, but for traffic.  With the recent algo changes, this method has backfired on us.  I'm working on cleaning everything up.

Quick question : What tool are you using in that screenshot?

This one has had me stumped for awhile.  I operate www.deviantclip.com.  Its a very old and trusted domain by google with loads of history.  However, in the past year, Google has been giving me the cold shoulder.

One major problem I've noticed is that I've lost all longtail traffic.  Its even gotten to the point where aggregators are outranking me in google for my own custom titles and content.

**Example A : **

Google Link 1

This search has my own sitename in the title and my site ranks somewhere on page 2 or further.

**Example B : **

Google Link 2

This content originated from our site and has a unique title, yet we're dead last in the serps.

I submitted my site for reconsideration a few times, and the outcome everytime is that Google tells me they have not applied any manual penalty.

There are a TON of issues to adress with this site, but obviously, getting my own content to rank first is the primary problem I would like to fix.

Your time and advice is greatly appreciated.  If you need furter info, don't be afraid to ask.

Another obvious question is : did you change anything recently?

Of course I will give full warnings before posting any type of links.  Indeed, its a VERY competitive industry and seo strategies are somewhat limited due to our nature, so it makes my job as an SEO even harder.

I run a few big tube sites and sales pages that contain adult material.  I'm also new to these forums, so before I do anything that might be considered rude or innapropriate, I wanted to know what the stance was on asking for advice related to the SEO of my adult sites and/or posting links.

I've read the Etiquette disclaimer, however, I don't actually intend to post images or anything of the sort, only ask for your opinions and preferred strategies.

If its completely frowned upon, then I completely understand and will never bring the subject back up again.
