We are in the process of buying some intellectual property, and it's websites are very dated and only have around 5 external links each.  What's the best course of action? Do we close down the sites; then redirect the urls to our current website, or do we leave the sites up, but redirect people to our new site.

I'm trying to decide on a web development company.  Both would do our CMS with Wordpress, but for the e-commerce platform one would use shopify (off the shelf) and the other would use Woo-Commerce (open source).

SEO wise is there any benefit of going one way or the other? I am worried the off the shelf (shopify) would be weaker because it would be hosted on a different server than the CMS, plus I think the url structure would be less flexible through shopify (keywords would be further down url structure).

Thanks for the response. My main concern was the loss of rankings.  I thought the change in URL's may negatively affect rankings.

We're considering changing our content management system.  This would probably change our url structure (keep root domain name, but specific product pages and what not would have different full urls). Will our rankings be affected if we use different urls for current pages? I know we can do 401 redirects, but anything else I should consider?

How do I know if I can compete on a particular keyword.  Say the keyword analysis tool shows the keyword difficulty is 59%. How do I know what 59% means to my site,  other than checking domain and page authority relative to my site (i.e. if sites in the top 10 are higher or lower authority than my site).  Is there a way of showing what keyword difficulty percentage is a cut off point for my site?
