RE: Hosting videos on your own website versus youtube - which is best?
Youtube videos are more likely to rank by themselves in SERPs with the video thumbnail. It is very difficult to accomplish on your own website.
You're definitely right on this - it's definitely an advantage to use Youtube for video thumbnails. I've always struggled to get a video thumbnail to appear even using video sitemaps.

RE: Hosting videos on your own website versus youtube - which is best?
Hi Tom,
Depends really. There are pros and cons to both hosting video onsite and off. On-site will generate links directly to your site but this depends on "highly shareable" your content really is. You may believe it’s highly shareable (and it may very well be) but there may already be similar content available.
Oleg's right - try testing it.

RE: Is onlywire a Black hat solution to be avoid it?
Hi Oleg,
I've used Onlywire in the past to generate back links and pre Panda/ Penguin it was successful. Agreed it raises some brand/ product awareness but I would worry that large scale production of links back your site (s) will have some negative effect over time or even get ignored by the SE’s (making any spend on this service worthless).
Surely it’s better to get real people talking about / promoting your products / services than “fly posting” - which is essentially what bookmarking is.
Luis - using these types of software and focusing on better rankings “clouds" the most important thing - you want engagement and conversions for your products / services and not necessarily the top rankings. It’s important to tell people how good your services and products are and the only way this can really be done is by engaging with individuals. As more and more individuals engage with your products and services your rankings will naturally increase (as will sales / conversions).
Don’t try and game Google and the rankings - it only will frustrate you and ultimately lead to worse ranking and traffic.

Automated social bookmarking will do little or nothing for your site (s). Problem is that you are posting your content to lots of social sites but showing no engagement with any of their users (unless you’ve got lots of resources to engage with them) Better to post your content to a couple of social sites that you can monitor and engage with effectively.
Take a look at your analytics and identify which social sites are generating traffic and interest to your site (s) and concentrate on engaging with these people.
