The Challenge
Crystal Labbe was raised by her mother (who at the time had not graduated from high school). Crystal's mother always stressed the importance of education. Most of Crystal's fondest memories from childhood had to do with her teachers and school. When Crystal was three, she went to preschool at Head Start and this is where her love for learning began. She was lucky to have an amazing teacher who cared so much and loved making learning fun. When she was 10 years old, she had to write a poem for class. Crystal said she would never forget the poem or that day. Her teacher asked her to come to the front of the class and read her poem. Crystal was very shy and terrified to be in front of the class. She managed to slowly creep to the front of the class, read her poem as quickly as she could and try to make a beeline back to her seat. Before she could return to her seat, her teacher called her back to the front of the class to re-read the poem. She did this dance four times. On the last read, the teacher asked her to slow down and take her time. She did slow down, and from that moment on, she knew she had a voice and she should be proud to share it with others. That same year, she was given her first diary. In her diary she wrote her list of goals for her life. In that list she wrote she wanted to have a positive impact on children's lives. This was the foundation for Miss Humblebee's Academy. The Humble in Miss Humblebee is to always remind her to be humble in life and help empower children to find their voice. After extensive research in curriculum and education systems in the United States as well as Asia, India, Russia and other countries, Miss Humblebee launched nationwide.
Crystal graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Master's degree in elementary education, has developed curricula for children ages 3-18 years old, taught English in Italy and is a member of Phi Delta Kappa and National Association of Professional Women.
