Had a pretty sweet position at the University of Washington for quite some time, my background is the the CAD Drafting and Design arena so becoming the CAD Manager for Capital Projects/ Design Services at UW was pretty much making me feel PRETTY awesome about myself, seemed to be a little taller and oddly all of my hats became too small. Unfortunately it was a "funded" position so it was directly tied to the state budeget...until around September of 2008 and it was slash and burn time. I got depressed...deeply depressed. I had just spent the last fiver years getting to walk around that beautiful campus...pretty girls....good times. The "government" part of it kind of sucked but I made up for that in many ways, making peoples jobs a little bit easier. I wrote the CADD Drafting and Design standards and administered some 250+ seats of the Autodesk Academic Design Software bundle which consisted of AutoCAD, REvit, Mechanical Desktop, Civil 3d, Electrical and maybe a couple other design platforms. Just goes to show....no matter how much you know, at some point it all comes down to money. So I locked myself in my little room at home for almost two years feeling sorry for myself. But eventually started teaching myself new things...HTML, CSS, SQL. PHP, graphic design, internet marketing, SEO, Pay per click, local search, Places etc. Now I strive to over deliver on every thing I do, I feel like I am getting paid to do magic sometimes. But if I give my clients a kick ass deal it will never come to a question of whether or not they can afford me it is a question of NOT being able to afford to quit utilizing my services. I am starting to feel better about myself!
