So, doing a little more checking I have looked at the source of several
of the link pages from siteloki.com and I was not able to find a link to our
website on the page. So, how is Google considering this a link?

In the process of trying to figure out where all of the “Bad” backlinks are coming from I used the SEOmoz Site Explorer. I can see the links that may be questionable but am not sure how to determine if these are the issue causing the loss of rank or could it be something else. On Google webmasters they list Siteloki.com as the one with the most links. The count is now at 13,005. (see attached WMT report)
I first noticed this a month ago, 6,742 links and have tried contacting them with no reply, no results, I have even posted on the site asking to be removed from their listing and not response.
I do not understand why this site is not showing up in the Site Explorer link analysis report (See attached)?
Could this be some sort of hack or hidden links that Site Explorer does not see?
How do I determine if this is real or not, if it is the reason that Google is demoting us? Google says that we are not being manually penalized?
I have been trying to understand how Google is applying the Algorithmic penalty based on bad backlinks. Google has told us that we are not being manually penalized and Matt Cutts explains that even though you may not be manually penalized you could be demoted based on the algorithm.
Is Google using the anchor text from the “Bad Links” and applying that to the search results when those keywords are used? If so that could account for the strange search results that I am seeing.
Any thoughts on this?

Thanks for the information on the backlinks. I have looked at the backlinks from SEOmoz Open Site Explorer and see what you are talking about but really don’t understand where they all came from “Except for probably the Globat.com SEO program from a year ago” as I mentioned most of them reference pages that no longer exist and use phrases that Globat.com had recommended. When I contacted Globat they are telling me that these are good links and that Google is not penalizing me for those. Are they lying to me? I left them because I didn’t think that they were helping me with SEO they never once asked me about any change in content, titles or descriptions. I guess they were building links and that was it.
Now, how do I fix this?
And as I mentioned to Francisco, I still don’t understand the strange results from the search that returns different pages from my website with descriptions that are not correct and keywords that do not exist on that page?

Thanks for your feedback, I understand what you are saying and I think that is great information regarding the marketing strategy. I would agree that I have probably gone too far in trying to optimize the website and not giving enough consideration to the marketing aspect. This is something that I will work on during what I hope will be a recovery period.
Our visits were never very high, averaging around 50-60 per day prior to the drop. We were at 56 page rank for the home page. I had been working on trying to increase the ranking then the bottom fell out.
Most of our business is from direct traffic in our real brick and mortar Photo Art Gallery in St. Augustine, big tourist traffic area, and we give each of our visitors a Boucher with our website on it. We were averaging about 2-3 orders per day from organic search traffic and roughly the same from direct traffic. Now that organic search traffic is gone.
I still don’t understand the strange results from the search that returns different pages from my website with descriptions that are not correct and keywords that do not exist on that page?

I understand what you are saying but not sure how I would “New Term” De-Optimize the titles?
Are you suggesting that it might be better to not use the words photo or canvas in the individual page titles? For example: “Free Convert to Black and white” as opposed to “Free Convert to Black and White for Your Photo on Canvas Prints”. The assumption being that the description and content would explain that the conversion was for photos on canvas?
This seems contrary to what SEOmoz on page analysis is telling me? But I am open to any good ideas!

I have considered the Penguin Update as the start of the issues, but there was a drop in Impressions on the 27th so I’m not sure, maybe both?

Have you paid for any links? No I have not. However, I now realize that may have been done as part of a SEO program from “Globat.com” where I was being hosted last year. Most of the links reference old pages that no longer exist. The website was rebuilt and re-hosted in January 2012.
Submitted your site to a bunch of directories or article sites? Maybe that was part of the Globat SEO program.
How is the quality of your content? I think that the quality of the content is very good, all original, all relevant to the product and informative.
These questions in combination with the exact date of the traffic drop will lead you to the answer. I truly hope so, I am not a SEO expert, trying to learn, just a small business owner trying to survive and the website was a considerable part of that effort that is now gone.
With regards to the “Spammy” Title; I’m not sure that it is, Just take a look at the title page of the top five:

The name of our business is “Get Your Photos On Canvas” and it is also the title of our website. Having said that, I have considered that Google my look at it as keyword stuffing. Just not sure?
All of these are great points but have not addressed the original question of why I am getting the search results that I have indicated.
If the problem is bad links or content then why would “Gallery Wrap vs Museum Wrap” be at #2 and the page title “Gallery Wrap vs Museum Wrap Photos on Canvas” produce these strange results with pages that don’t even contain the words Gallery Wrap?
Trying to understand the sporadic search results from Google
I have been searching for answers to my situation for two
months now with little results. I have had numerous answers and various
solutions to the issue, and I have followed through with them trying to solve
this problem but the results are the same.
Beginning in late April our SERP went down drastically. I
have checked and cleaned the website of any errors and issues that I can find with
no change in the results. I have submitted a request to Google to be
reconsidered and have been told now three times that we are not being manually
penalized. The last request I asked for
any specific reason that we were seeing these very unusual SERP results and got
no answer.
The best way that I can explain the issues is with a specific example. These results are similar with other pages throughout the website: www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/
If you search for a specific page Title you get some really strange results:

It is important to note that most of these pages do not even contain the keywords allery Wrap vs Museum Wrap or any variation of those keywords. Yet, they appear in the displayed results?

I have been working on this for a few weeks now and nothing that I have encountered
in business has been this difficult or frustrating. I am just a small business
owner trying to make a living. You are correct it is a grind.
I think that I read somewhere, there is so much information some good and some
not, that the algorithm looking at KWS was part of the panda update that
happened on April 24th and that is when We dropped off the grid. Don’t know if
anyone can confirm that.
I have been monitoring the competition and realize that we are not page one
worthy yet and we were working on improving from page four for a very
competitive market. Now we are nowhere.
One example of a search that led me to believe that it might be KWS is as I
mentioned adding one of the keywords, photo or canvas to a search.
Example: Gallery Wrap vs Museum Wrap - #2 on Google but if you add Photos or canvas
or both we are not in the top 200.
I contacted Google – their reply was no manual penalty was imposed.
Can’t afford to wait it out, so I guess I will rewrite my content to please Google.
I believe that Google sees our website: www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/
as being guilty of keyword stuffing. I don’t see any specific tools on SEOmoz
that will evaluate Keyword Density as viewed by Google.
Just to be clear; I have not attempted to use KWS as a SEO tactic. I feel that the
content of each page is written for the customer. I do realize that Google may
see it differently. I think that I am being penalized for the use of the words
Photo and Canvas. My domain name is “GetYourPhotosonCanvas.com” The business
name is “Get Your Photos on Canvas”, the website title is “Get Your Photos on Canvas”, and each page of our website talks about Photos and Canvas. I have tried to
vary the use of Photo with Pictures, Photographs, Prints, Digital Images and so
on. It is difficult to vary the word Canvas. I guess according to Google this paragraph
would be guilt of Keyword Stuffing!
I have conducted some tests on other SEO site tools and some indicate that KWS is
a problem on my website.
If you search a specific page title that contains either Photo or Canvas it does
not rank in the top 200 on Google, although it is #1 or #2 on Yahoo or Bing. Drop those two Keywords and the page shows up
as #2 on Google. I think that is a good indication that we are being penalized
for KWS.
Pease take a look at our website and give me your opinion/advice regarding the Key
Word Stuffing Issue. Do I need to rewrite my site content for Google?

I understand what you are saying but I think you are missing the point.
Why should a search result for a portion of a title - Gallery Wrap vs Museum Wrap - generate a result when a greater portion of the tile - Gallery Wrap vs Museum Wrap Canvas - Does not return a result at all in the top 200. Yet it does return results
for other pages on our website that are not as relevant?
This is happening across the board with page after page. It is not specific to just this page, I was only using it as an example.I seems as though Google does not like when the search contains Photo or Canvas?

I need help to solve an ongoing problem.
I have been working to try to figure this out now for weeks. When you search a
specific page title that has a low competition and all of the SEO checks indicate
that the page should rank in the top 10 if not #1 yet it is nowhere to be found
(not in top 200). I have looked at all of the suggested possible caused from
this and other forums. I have been told by Google that we are not being
manually penalized. I have taken action to correct all of the issues that have
been mentioned in forums; speed, links, SEOmoz crawl results are good, No major
problems for the site, page rank for the search keywords is A yet;

and intend to peruse those efforts.
Right now I am just about out of patience and income from this drastic fall from Google.
The first things that I feel I need to eliminate are the possible technical errors.

Where the addition of the word Photos or Canvas takes us out of the top 100. By
the way these all are #1 on Yahoo and Bing.

I noticed that all of the pages had a 301 Redirect?
There is this huge amount of what appears to be corrupted
data for each of these pages:
Please see the attached Crawl report and a test ran from a crawl spider.
It looks like each page is a 301 redirect to itself?
Can anyone please tell me what all this means?

and even asked the question regarding paid
links and was assured that they only submitted our sitemap and provided our
business information including hours of operation to search engines and other
sites like yelp, yellow pages, attracta’s directory and that sort of thing. They said they do not use paid links. Now I’m
not sure?
After several posts on several forums you have given the
most useful and logical reply. Now what I need is some help or guidance on a
recovery. How do I remove these unwanted links. I thought that the first step
was to set up an account with SEOmoz to analyze the problem and then hopefully
get help on resolving the issue. It is hard to see any light at the end of the
tunnel at this point. We are a small business that depends on the website for
30-40% of our sales. This is life or death to us!

No, there were no warnings in
Webmaster tools regarding the harmful backlinks. I discovered this in checking
the site.
I wanted to know if there was any
way to remove these links or let Google know that the links are not something
that we wanted or paid for or arranged from any third party.

website owners to submit a website that is linking to them that they want Google
to block or ignore for rankings purposes. _
I dropped like a rock in Google rankings on the 24<sup>th</sup>
of April. After having to become familiar with Google webmaster tools and doing
allot of investigating I discovered that there is a website www.siteloki.com that has 6,742 links to my website. I have
tried to contact siteloki with no response. I tracked them on Whois to an
office suite in LA called the building to find that the suite listed is the
building management suite. I have had
the following sent to them via email, their contact page and posted on their website
forum and still no reply:
Please take action to remove all links to this website
immediately!
I have been notified by my client that your website has a
malicious attack using links from www.siteloki.com
against www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com.
My client did not solicit these links, pay for these links or authorize any
third party to build links for them. They just appeared. The links are even
pointing to my client’s old website (same url). This is a big problem and I
don’t understand why these links exist. There are currently 6,471 links from
your domain. Please remove these links immediately or we will consider legal
action against your company. We have contacted Google on the behalf of our
client and informed them of this malicious act. I expect to see these links
removed immediately!

I have submitted the site in the malware reporting section
of webmasters tools. I have searched but cannot find any documentation on how
to block this type of attack. It seems that Google failed to provide any means
for an honest website owner following the rules to block this type of attack and
as a result we have been unjustly penalized by Google with a drop to the bottom
in our page ranking.
I would appreciate ANY HELP in removing these links and getting the Siteloki website blocked from linking to my website?
Any Ideas?
Also and I suspect related are the 406 Permanent 301 redirects that showed up on a crawl analysis on SEOmoz.

The first think that I did was to look at links using SEOmoz and I didn't and still don't see the links from "Siteloki" Then i read this blog from SEOmoz

Then I look deeper in Webmasters Tools and found the 6,000 plus links from "siteloki"
All of these links refer to the website as it was prior to a rebuild that launched in mid January. This is also what is accounting (I think for all of the 404 errors).
I am beginning to think that this was a Hack Job!
I have been looking at Google Webmasters Tools and saw that suddenly I have this huge amount of links form an unknown source “SiteLoki” never heard of it? Didn’t want it! Need to get rid of it!

I have ran all kinds of web crawl tests, Google webmaster, talked with SEO “Experts” and still can not figure out what is happening. I decided to use a couple of SEOmoz tools to try to help me explain what is happening. I figured that if I could take a very specific and unique KeyPhrase and run it on a specific page that I might be able to better explain what is happening. Basically, We appear to be no longer searchable by key words or phrases on google?
There was another post regarding canonical tag issues; resolved, I removed all canonical tags for now.
Today I discovered the links and I suspect that having even
1 link for this website will penalize you in Google.

I also noted that the image for the link is from an old site hosted on www.Globat.com. I don't know what that significance might be. I left them in January.

Thanks for your great advice! I think that the problem is in the set up of the url in the general settings page of Word Press It is: http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com
and should be http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/
I was able to repair the added "Why Get. . . " from the Title and I am looking at installing WordPress SEO by Yoast to control the rel canonical tags...
Any comments or recommendations on the WordPress SEO by Yoast?
I suspect that the timing was no coincidence, I would guess that
Google included a better algorithm that picked up on the canonical errors.

I did see the second canonical. I have been on the
Word Press Forum and it looks like this a BIG problem! I don’t know why there
isn’t a notice or a fix yet but I’m working on it! I’m still upset big time
that a rep that I spoke with by phone from SEOmoz told me that the canonical was
correct and could not be the problem. I’ve gone full circle over a period of a
week trying to figure this out.

First, I suspected the rel Canonical issue and even called SEOmoz to talk to a rep and report that this might be a problem with the new Google algorithms. I was assured that this is not the case and in fact told that the rel Canonical in the page pointing back to itself was a good thing? Anyway . . .
How do I fix it? It is a word Press site, do I need to contact them?
Also I don’t have a clue where the extra text in the SEO Title came from how do I fix that?
Any Help would be greatly appreciated. I am just a novice at this!

I have ran all kinds of web crawl tests, Google webmaster, talked with SEO “Experts” and still can not figure out what is happening. I decided to use a couple of SEOmoz tools to try to help me explain what is happening. I figured that if I could take a very specific and unique KeyPhrase and run it on a specific page that I might be able to better explain what is happening. Basically, We appear to be no longer searchable by key words or phrases on google?
Here is an example:
Key Phrase: Free Services to Help Improve Your Photos on Canvas
Website: http://www.getyourphotosoncanvas.com/free-photo-canvas-retouching
Attached are some screen shots of the actual search results on Bing, Yahoo and Google along with the ranking tool results from SEOmoz and the on page grade for the key phrase.
Anybody got any Ideas? I am hurting; the internet and Google search is about 40% of by business.
