Minimum # of words on a homepage?
When I design sites for clients I try to keep the homepage clean and simple. As a result, I usually end up with very little actual content.
For SEO purposes. What is the minimum # of words that I should have on any given homepage to avoid being penalized by Google?
Does it have to be at least 150 or something like that? Even though my internal pages have plenty?
thanks,
Martin

RE: Do I need a .com as well?
Thanks for the advice. I used a fake company for this question and bought all 3 domains for the real company.
Thanks,

Do I need a .com as well?
Hello Mozers,
I need your advice.
I have a new client that runs a paralegal shop called - Christophers Legal Advice up here in Canada
ChristophersLegal.com is taken
but ChristophersLegal.ca is available
Question:
Should I register ChristophersLegalAdvice.com and ChristophersLegalAdvice.ca and just redirect the .com to .ca (since both .com and .ca are available)
or should I risk it and opt for the shorter url and just register
I'm thinking that I might be able to get away with just ChristophersLegal.ca since the site will be used to attract new visitors via the search engines and social media.
What do you guys think?

RE: Targeting Keywords from the homepage
I would target one specific keyword per page and just make sure the content on each page is valuable and targeted because that's what visitors want.
Just keep it natural and you will be surprised at the number of additional long-tail keywords each specific page will rank for.
On some of my older sites I would have approximately 80 pages each dedicated to a specific keyword. Eventually, I would often rank for 16,000+ long-tail keywords (depending on the niche). I didn't consciously go after those 16,000 keywords. I just went after 80. But Google found my specific content pages relevant for a lot more than just the initial 80 keywords.
Many of these long-tail keywords may only be used a few times each month, so it doesn't make sense to target them specifically. However, if you write compelling content, the long tail keywords will follow, and so will the targeted traffic.

Is it ok if a company address is located in the footer which is in a external php file?
We all know that a company's address must be in the footer on every single page. But what if that actual address resides inside an external php file. Meaning the entire footer is an external php file.
Will that affect local seo negatively?
thanks for your help.

Is this keyword cannibalization?
Hi,
Is using keywords in different orders considered keyword cannibalization?
for example, if I my client has a catering business based in mississauga, Ontario, should I create separate 2nd tier pages on the following keywords?
1. mississauga catering
2. catering mississauga
3. catering in mississauga
Is that keyword cannibalization?
The reason I ask is because it's often hard to find a good # of diverse keywords for local businesses that are also used more than a few times each month in the search engines.
thanks,
Martin
