Duplicate Homepage - How to fix?
Hi Everyone,
I've tried using BeamUsUp SEO Crawler and have found one warning and two errors on our site.
The warning is for a duplicate meta description, and the errors are a duplicate page and a duplicate title.
For each problem it's showing the same two pages as the source of the error, but one has a slash at the end and one doesn't. They're both for the homepage.
And
Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone know if this is anything we should worry about?

Revolution Sliders - Still considered bad for SEO in 2018?
Hi guys, I have a question about revolution sliders. Are they generally speaking still technically considered to be bad for SEO?
I've done some research on this topic however most of the information I can find dates back to around 2009-2012, when sliders were mostly java and flash based. It seems that back then they were considered to be bad for SEO. Is this still the case?
We use revolution sliders because it's easy for us to overlay text and because it scales to mobile automatically. It also allows us to put alt texts and image titles in there - we don't use them for the purpose of sliding images.
Would there be any technical reason why a slider would be considered bad for SEO?

RE: Weird SEO Problem - No Longer Ranking in Some Areas
Hi, yes this is similar to my previous question however I think the amount of detail I gave previously proved a little difficult to follow. I've simplified the question here and have intentionally tried to get a more generalised response based on these facts.
If anyone is able to take a look and let me know their thoughts it would be appreciated.

Weird SEO Problem - No Longer Ranking in Some Areas
Hi Everyone, I’ve got a weird SEO issue that I hope you’ll be able to help with. I’ve broken it down in to the key points below:
-
Impressions for our primary and secondary keywords dropped dramatically on 02.10.17.
-
Impressions have only dropped on non geographical keywords. “UK” variants are still ranking well. Investigation shows we’re not ranking outside of London at all for primary and secondary keywords.
-
Primary and secondary keywords are still ranking well in London, the city where we’re based
-
We’ve looked at our competition who do rank for the primary keyword both in and outside London. We noticed we have our “postaladdress” in our schema. The competition don’t have their address in their schema.
-
We updated our schema 2 weeks ago and now use the Yoast schema which is the same as our competitors use.
-
Approx 1 week after removing the schema we started showing up for primary and secondary keyword again, but very low - fluctuating between page 15 and page 24. It’s been 2 weeks now and no improvement.
-
AHREFS and google webmaster, both incorrectly detail that we rank top 5. Which is true to a degree, but only in London.
Thank you in advance!

RE: Raising Domain Authority
Thanks for the replies! That all makes sense, and certainly Nikki we will work on getting links which are of a higher DA. A lot of our links have been from sites which have similar DAs to us, so getting links from higher authority websites is certainly something for us to try where possible.

Raising Domain Authority
Hi everyone, I'm looking to find out if there are any tried and tested ways to raise DA.
We have regular articles, a good backlink profile, we post regularly to social media, but we seem to be stuck at DA27.
One of our competitors who has no real backlinks, only backlinks from citations and no social media posts has a DA of 31 which we find quite confusing.
Thanks in advance!

RE: Citation Quantity vs Real Links
Thanks Ruth, that all makes sense and the reason for our quality over quantity approach so far has been because we're committed to white hat techniques which will give us lasting results.
As far as we see it, our website looks better than the competition, we have higher quality content and articles, we have higher quality backlinks, a better ahrefs rank (although understand this isn't a google metric). The only difference we can see, is the fact that we have less links. We're committed to building more authority to the site via high quality editorial links, however it is very frustrating to be outranked constantly by people who are using only spammy techniques.
Another consideration is that one of our competitors who consistently ranks #1 on all of our keywords, has a 1 page website with 600 words of text on it, yet they're ranking for 700 keywords; most of which don't appear in their backlink profile which we have studied in depth, or on his site. It seems to be one rule for the competition and another for us.
