If the pages you are redirecting have links pointing at them and you 301 them to your home page, chances are your home page will rank higher and DA will increase.

Whatever plan you decide on, my advice would be to do it a few pages at a time and see what happens.

I have a lot of SEO reports to send out, SEO Moz is awesome but it's not designed for this kind of work.

I would like an automated report that does an on page optimization report on the potential client's site, finding errors etc it does not have to include fixes for each. This is just a basic report but it must look nice and be user friendly.

I have looked at Raven and it looks ok however it does not have any decent On Page Optimization reports.

I know I could crawl and then delete the campaign in SEO Moz but that is very time consuming and far from ideal.

If anyone knows of a solution please let me know

I have optimized my home page for the keyword "computer repairs" would I be better of targeting my links at this page or an additional page (which already exists) called /repairs it's possible to rename & 301 this page to /computer-repairs

The only advantage I can see from targeting /computer-repairs is that the keywords are in the target URL.

You mean link to a sub page, such as /computer-repair ?

That way I can always move the page if required?

When building Anchor text links what affect if any does rel="external" have on inlinks placed to your site.

Example Business Name - UberPuter

UberPuter targets the keywords "Computer Repairs" right from their home page.

UberPuter has the option to place links on 150 of their customers pages that are happy with the service.

Would it be best to place two anchor text links one with the brand name and one with the keyword anchor text in "computer repairs" pointing both at the home page or should UberPuter only place one link back to the home page for the Keyword Anchor text?

To the best of my knowledge G only counts the first link on a page as a "Vote" so my thought is to only include the single link with the keyword anchor text.

Not enough info to answer, that would depend on how many links you have pointing at the niche sites and how much traffic / revenue each website makes you per month?

If you are happy with Wordpress why change? I would not load your site up with plugins though, your blog / site will end up slow and insecure.

If you are having a bespoke site built and require a CMS I'v heard good things about MODx from a few dev's

Here are my tips on ranking well for the US:

1. Host your server in the US
2. Sign up to Google Webaster Tools and set your location to United States
3. Get some inlinks from US sites

Also bare in mind the chances are your keywords are going to be a lot harder to rank for in the US due to increased competition.

Same IP address is fine in my experience, just so long you are not registering multiple accounts for the purpose of writing reviews on your own Google Places.

I always create separate Google accounts for each clients Google Places page (unless they have multiple offices), my theory is if Google ever deleted my account by mistake or I lost a password or got locked out then i would not lose all my clients Google Places pages tied to that account.

You need to add your blog's RSS feed to FeedBurner, when you create your feed in FeedBurner it should ask you for this information.

FYI, Feedburner is system that enables users to sign up to your blog and be notified when new posts are made, it is not a platform for blogging.

I agree with THB on this, use rel="canonical" you simply want to say to the search engines "Hey this is the preferred URL for my content".

301's are for saying "Hey this page has permanently moved to a new page/site"

I would use the rel="canonical" plugin I posted for you above, it will automatically add the canonical tag for you, job done.

View the source code after you have installed it to confirm it's working as expected.

No need to add 301's.

I would focus on Google Places optimization based on the time scale you have it is far more likely you will rank higher for you niche.

Are these sites similar? Could you not combine the content and 301 each page as you combine the info into site B.

I would only considering combining the content and then 301'ing from site A to the combined page on site B if the site content is similar.

If the sites are of completely different content then leave them as separate sites.

Google have not used they keyword meta tag since about 2009 IIRC

Let me clarify the 301 redirect, the home page is now set as the software-consultancy page and it looks like this in the browser domain.com for example. If you visit the software-consultancy page it 301's to the home page. Also all sub pages of software-consultancy/ still function as normal.

So essentially wordpress is just marking the home page as the software-consultancy page.

I am going to list around 8 areas / cities for the location part, I would lose the areas but it makes the drop down navs cleaner on the site. If I change this though I will deffintly lose the area sub dir. I guess having the areas sub nav is not going to make a massive amount of difference  SEO wise?

Background info

This is a new site and I am using Wordpress for a CMS not a blog and I have set a static page as the home page.

The problem is when I configure the home page as a static page in wordpress it sets a 301 redirect to that page, which is this domain.com/software-consultancy (so the software-consultancy page is now domain.com).

I thought about creating a separate Home page but I didn't see the point as the pages would be almost identical.

If I start link building using the phrase "software consultancy" to the home page should I link to domain.com or the 301 redirect URL domain.com/software-consultancy ?

My thoughts are that if the URL has the keywords I am targeting in it will help with SEO.

Or should I create a separate home page and just link the company name back to the home and have a separate page for "software consultancy" my thought is that having exactly what the company does on the home page would be better. But I don't want to lose out on search engine traffic by not having the keywords in the URL I am going to be link building for.

I guess if I link build to the 301 redirect URL I can always revert back to this URL if I want to change?

FYI here is my site structure:

The site is for a small software consultancy and I have the following structure:

domain.com/software-consultancy  -- (Set as Wordpress static Page so essentially a 301 redirect to / )

domain.com/software-consultancy/areas

domain.com/software-consultancy/areas/london

domain.com/software-consultancy/areas/new-york

I would really appreciate some feedback on this, even if it's experience / advice and there is no exact answer.

I run an IT company and the company name does not contain the key word I am trying to rank on.

I also have a bunch of pages with page rank that containing the actual keywords, for example:

http://www.mycompanyname.com/tech-support/locations/brighton

My target keyword is  "Tech Support Brighton"

My Home page is PR4 and my location based pages are PR3.

My plan was to build 3 or 4 location pages for the locations we provide tech support for and target location based keyword Anchor text to these URL's e.g "Tech Support Brighton" and then for the home page build links that have the anchor text "Tech Support".

Does this sound sane?
