Hello, our programmer recently updated our http version website to https.  Does it matter if we have TWO 301 redirects?  Here is an example: http://www.colocationamerica.com/dedicated_servers/linux-dedicated.htm 301 https://www.colocationamerica.com/dedicated_servers/linux-dedicated.htm 301 https://www.colocationamerica.com/linux-dedicated-server We're getting pulled in two different directions.  I read https://moz.com/blog/301-redirection-rules-for-seo and don't know if 2 301's suffice. Please let me know.  Greatly appreciated!

Hi Mozzers, I referred a client of mine (last time) to a programmer that can transition their site from http to https.  They use a wordpress website and currently use EPS Redirects as a plugin that 301 redirects about 400 pages.  Currently, the way EPS redirects is setup (as shown in the attachment) is simple: On the left side you enter your old url, and on the the right side is the newly 301'd url.  But here's the issue, since my client made the transition to https, the whole wordpress backend is setup that way as well.  What this means is, if my client finds another old http url that he wants to redirect, this plugin only allows them to redirect https to https. As of now, all old http to https redirects STILL work even though the left side of the plugin switched all url's to a default HTTPS.  But my client is worried the next plugin update he will lose all http to https redirects.  While asking our programmer to add all 400 redirects to .htaccess, he states that's too many redirects and could slow down the website.  Well, we don't want to lose all 400 301's and jeopardize our SEO. Question: what does everyone suggest as an alternative solution/plugin to redirect old http urls to https and future https to https urls? Thank you all! Ol8km

Hi Mozzers! So we're finally ready to move from http to https.  Penguin is finally showing us some love due to the recent algorithm updates.  I just added the https to Google search console and before 301 redirecting the whole site to a secure environment.....do i upload the same disavow file to the https version? Moreover, is it best to have both the http and https versions on Google Search console?  Or should I add the disavow file to the https version and delete the http version in a month? And what about Bing? Help.

Hi Ya'll I'm looking for a company or independent who can transition our website from http to https.  I want to make sure they know what they're doing with a Wordpress website.  More importantly, i want to make sure they don't break any seo juice from external sources while internally nothing gets broken. Mozzers, I've been doing a lot of research on Google's new Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) https://moz.com/blog/accelerated-mobile-pages-whiteboard-friday.  From what I'm seeing, these AMP version websites are only for Google News-worthy websites such as New York Times, Cosmopolitan, and the BuzzFeeds of the world. But what about Ecommerce websites like Ebay or Amazon?  Will AMP versions of "scotch tape" via OfficeDepot work in the SERP's on non-Google News cards?

Hi Mozzers, I'm using Eggplants 301 redirect via wordpress and for some reason I can't redirect one url. The example of it is below: www.website.com/news/www.website.com As you can see, it looks like there's 2 url's and this plugin doesn't do the trick.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Maybe via .htaccess? Hey Mozzers, Looking in my Google Search Console (Webmaster Tools), I'm getting links pointing to bogus pages on my website that result in a 404.  What does one do so you can tell Google that it has been "fixed"? Do i just 301 it to another website? If I add it to my disavow list, does Google remove the error in my webmaster tools? Thank you!

So I just submitted my 2nd disavow file to Google, but what about Bing?  I know i would have to submit one url at a time, but is it worth it?  Is it safe yet to submit the same file from Google? I know Bing measures quantity of links and submitting the same file might hurt my rankings, but anything new in 2015?

Hi Y'all. Can't seem to find an article on disavowing a single page.  Do i use A, B, or submit both A and B? Example: A. http://disavowexample.com B. http://www.disavowexample.com Which one does Google prefer?  I know for some I just find the canonical url of the page (which show www,) but wanted your expert advice! Hi Yall, I'm disavowing a new set of links and have come across a wall: Let's say your niche is in web hosting and you post to forums such as a webhostingtalk.com (a forum very popular in the hosting business).  If your sole purpose is mostly selling your business and you have links (not anchor text keywords) that you direct users to for specific products and such...do you do a disavow those links? I'm not leaving links like: Web hosting, or, Free Hosting... I'm posting deals and answering some questions on other posts that direct to my site with traditional links. Thank you

I need your help.  I'm in the final stages of a huge link audit and press releases are a big concern.  As you know, press release distribution sites up until 2012 had "follow" links, giving webmasters a delight of having their keyword anchor texts a big boost in rankings.  These are the websites that are troubling me today so i would appreciate your input on my strategy below as most of these websites are asking for money to remove them: 1. Press Release sites that are on the same C-class - Disavow 2. Not so authoritative press release websites that just follow my www domain only (no anchor texts) - I leave it alone 3. Not so authoritative press release websites but have anchor texts that are followed - Disavow 4. Post 2012 press release websites that have "followed" anchor text keywords - Request to remove, then disavow 5. Post 2012 press release websites that just follow my www domain only (no anchor texts) -  leave it alone #2 and #5 are my biggest concern.  Now more than ever I would appreciate your follow ups.  I will respond quickly and apply "good answers" to the one's that make the most sense as my appreciation to you.  God bless you all.

Hi Yall, 2 scenarios: 1. I'm on the border line of disavowing some websites that link to me.  If the page is N/A (not available) for the cache, does that mean i should disavow them? 2. What if the particular page was really good content and the webmaster just has the worse seo skills in not interlinking his old blogs, hence why the page that's linking to me is N/A for cache, should i still disavow it? Hello, Getting a lot of duplicate title and meta description errors via google webmaster tools. For best SEO practices, do i no-index the page/2's, page/3's...? More importantly, i see how MOZ did it by adding "page 3" to their titles such as http://moz.com/blog?page=3.  Is that a better way of doing it?  If so, how do i do that on Yoast SEO? Hi, Hopefully someone can help my dilemma! I am trying to wrap review schema (schema.org/review). However, it's stumping me because of our WordPress theme "Flawless." If any are familiar with this particular theme you'll know that there is the normal visual/text portion of the page-editing portion of WordPress, but there is also a page-building section which is unique to Flawless. In this instance, a Testimonial "Content/Post Type Item" has been used. This was where the page was constructed and wherein the problem lies. If I wrap schema around it like I normally would, the page distorts on the front end and becomes a garbled mess. I've been trying to solve the problem and the closest I've gotten has been to copy the source-code of the Flawless themed Testimonial Content/Post Type Item into the "Text" portion of Wordpress to replicate the Flawless page-builder. I thought "yay! I can wrap schema around this for sure!" but I'm still encountering some problems. If I'm using the structured data markup helper from Google, and copying and pasting the HTML I'd like (with the corresponding schema "header") I get an error on the Structured Data Testing Tool saying "Incomplete schema data." I've tried looking for plugins that would help me, but all that I've seen adds duplicate content to the page. If there's a way to wrap review schema on this page—it would make my day! I'm conducting a link audit and read that if you are a sponsor or partner of a company, links should be nofollowed.  I always no follow them if they are money keywords, but branded I leave alone.  is that a good strategy? Or do i nofollow my brand name as well? 2. What if I'm a sponsor and have my company logo on their website that links to my website? How would i know if that link should be nofollowed? a. Does it depend on the "alt" of the image? b. Does it depend on the landing page of the link of the image? c. Do i just no follow image links from sponsor pages and partner pages as a whole?  Please keep in mind that I'm sponsoring websites that are relevant to my niche. PLEASE HELP!

Hello Mozzers, I'm conducting a link audit and I see a red flag for one of my guest blogs i did in 2012. let's say the IP of the website was 62.658.62.9 Little did I know that the blogging website is a link network with the same content on each IP via it's specific C class: 62.658.62.9 62.658.62.10 62.658.62.11 ETC... How does one find a website to blog on and check to see if they have a blog network or better yet, see if there is a similar distinction of duplicate sites based on its C-class?

Hello, For a business with multiple locations that has a web url built for each location such as: Website.com/miami Website.com/los-angeles For local search (Google+, Yelp, etc), is it best to link the local search pages to the specific page of that location?  Or is the homepage sufficient enough? I ask that because it is ALREADY touch getting NATURAL links to a location page, so would local search do me good by linking to the exact page of the location?

Hi Y'all, Bing uses Pinterest as part of its image search by using pins of users...But what about Tumblr?  Is Tubmlr still a good source for a ranking factor when pointing an image link to your blog? Our industry is pretty boring, so we would get a few clicks here and there a month, but nothing compared to Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest...but overall is Tumblr a good backlink every time a blog is posted for search algorithms?

Hi, I was at the MozCon conference in Seattle this Summer and heard great concepts about deleting a lot of pages on your site that are deemed excess.  It got me thinking to remove all of our old blogs that were: Sales(ee) less than 400 words Flat out bad blogs When i begin removing these links, i know i will get a lot of 404 errors because of previous social links.  So in your opinion, what would you do?  Do i just 301 those blogs to my main /blog page? Hi Community! 2 weeks ago, i sent in our first/HUGE disavow list to Google. Out of the 2700 domains we submitted, 1300 of them we successfully removed, but we have nothing to show Google. Reason is because on our reconsideration request page, we can't submit anything because we didn't receive a message from Google (please see screenshot). I know for a FACT we got hit by an ALGORITHM penalty back in March2013. So, I have this wonderful Gdoc to prove that we worked LONG AND HARD to add and remove links in the past year, but we can't seem to message Google and tell them our story on why we should be reconsidered. How do we tell Google our success of removals? It's been 2 weeks, how much longer until we see a change in traffic? Hi Ya'll, I have a U.S. based site with english content, but my xml lang in my view source ode is in en-gb. Should i change it to "en-US"?  Or should i just change it to just "en", that way i can target all english speaking countries..... And if i do make the switch, does it make a difference in my traffic and SEO for the U.S.? Thank you!

Hello, My website is in default English and Spanish as a sub folder TLD.  Because of my Joomla platform, Google is listing hundreds of soft 404 links of French, Chinese, German etc. sub TLD's. Again, i never created these country sub folder url's, but Google is crawling them.  Is it best to just "Disallow" these sub folder TLD's like the example below, then "mark as fixed" in my crawl errors section in Google Webmaster tools?: User-agent: * Disallow: /de/ Disallow: /fr/ Disallow: /cn/ Thank you, Shawn

Hello, I have a hosting company that partnered up with a blogger template developer that allowed users to download blog templates and have my footer links placed sitewide on their website.  Sitewides i know are frowned upon and that's why i went through the rigorous Link Audit months ago and emailed every webmaster who made "WEBSITENAME.Blogspot.com" 3 times each to remove the links. I'm at a point where i have 1000 sub users left that use the domain name of "blogspot.com".  I used to have 3,000! Question: When i disavow these links in Webmaster tools for Google and Bing, should i upload all 1000 subdomains of "blogspot.com" individually and show Google proof that i emailed all of them individually, or is it wise to just include just 1 domain name (www.blogspot.com) so Google sees just ONE big mistake instead of 1000. This has been on my mind for a year now and I'm open to hearing your intelligent responses.

Hello, I've always wondered if I have a tech blog and wrote about "why Droid phones are better than Iphones", i would need more links pointed to my specific blog.  Doing so, i find another blog that's reputable with high domain authority that talks about the SAME blog/subject. Is it wise and good for SEO if i contact the blogger and have each other reference each other's blog with the anchor text link as the brand name in our respective blogs? It's a typical link exchange, but this is more niche.  Would this help my efforts? And would Google accept our good faith linking to a great article vice versa. Thanks, Shawn

Hi Guys, I just transferred my old site to a new one and now have sub folder TLD's.  My default pages from the front end and sitemap don't show /en after www.mysite.com.  The only translation i have is in spanish where Google will crawl www.mysite.com/es (spanish). 1. On the SERPS of Google and Bing, every url that is crawled, shows the extra "/en" in my TLD.  I find that very weird considering there is no physical /en in my urls.  When i select the link it automatically redirects to it's default and natural page (no /en).  All canonical tags do not show /en either, ONLY the SERPS. Should robots.txt be updated to "disallow /en"? 2. While i did a site transfer, we have altered some of the category url's in our domain.  So we've had a lot of 301 redirects, but while searching specific keywords in the SERPS, the #1 ranked url shows up as our old url that redirects to a 404 page, and our newly created url shows up as #2 that goes to the correct page.  Is there anyway to tell Google to stop showing our old url's in the SERP's?  And would the "Fetch as Google" option in GWT be a great option to upload all of my url's so Google bots can crawl the right pages only? I am planning on creating a multi language website that targets different countries and would like to know what would be the best way to translate my content from English to multiple different languages (French, Spanish, Swedish, Chinese, etc.). I would hire a translator but doing so for all these different languages would be too costly. Using Google translate will leave me with at best a rough translation. What are my other options? Is there a website that can provide me a better translation? Would Fiver be a better/cheaper alternative? Thoughts?

Hello, I have a website with 1k+ links pointed directly to an inner page and home page from blogspot domains. There are 3 links in the footer that points to different locations. 1st anchor text points to the person who designed the page template and links to their website (this doesn't affect us) 2nd anchor text uses a direct keyword that I am trying to rank for and links to the inner page. 3rd anchor text uses my website name and links to the home page I know that these are not good links and the content inside the pages are irrelevant to my own website. The links are embedded into the template on the footer and is site wide.I have already contacted the designer and have the links removed but those that have downloaded the templates still have the footer link. What would be the best way to remove all these footer links? Trying to contact each individual person who is using the template is not working out as most have not responded and some of the websites have not seen an update in years! Any thoughts? Hello Mozers and SEM's, I'm sure all of you know and understand the importance of uploading your sitemap to search engines. Once search engine in particular is Baidu. For some reason, i can't find a way to submit my link www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml.  For Google, Bing, and Yandex it was easy, but Baidu is giving me problems.  Don't tell me to "wait until they crawl your site", i have over 1000+ pages of unique content that those other 3 search engines found because of my sitemap; Baidu can't be that slow. Their robots only found 147 pages. 😞 If you take a look at the image attachment, you can see why I'm stuck, i can't read chinese! (and it's an image, so i couldn't translate it). Has anybody had any luck submitting their .xml link into Baidu? Can someone walk me through it? Let me know! Shawn xILP69w

Hello, I am developing our new site that will create tabs such as "design", "tech specs", "customer ratings" etc. just like http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15z-5523/pd. My question is, if most of my content is on the 2nd and 3rd tabs, would my content effect my overall SEO if it's not on it's default view? Because, if users don't physically click on the 2nd and 3rd tab, does it mean that since there is no impression of that content, that content will be allocated to half of its SEO juice? Hello, My website started to offer guest blog posting and was wondering if it is a good idea to have an anchor text link to a not relevant website in the author bio. The content the guest blogger gave me is relevant to my website but in the author bio there are a couple of anchor text links that are linking to a completly different industry. I've recently hired a company that publishes my press releases for me. One of them is on Yahoo! Finance. When I went to the Yahoo article, my keyword link was dofollow, but had a very long Yahoo redirect link instead of just a direct link to my page. Am I still getting link juice out of this Yahoo redirect?

I have a website that has videos hosted from youtube.com embedded onto it. I created and uploaded the videos to youtube and want them on my website. My question is which would be a better option, hosting the video on my website or embed them from youtube? I currently have them embedded onto youtube but when I do a Google video search I cannot find my company's website anywhere. My videos are shown on the results but they are linked to youtube and not my website. Is there a way to get the search results to show listing of the videos posted on my website?

Hello, Some of my hosted clients don't mind if I put a footer link on the bottom of their website.  I would like to put a footer link that looks like Seomoz's - http://imgur.com/GrC8y Basically it would look like so: "Powered by "my company name".  The world's #1 "keyword" provider (LOGO goes here) Here are my questions: 1. Would this hurt or help my rankings? 2. Should the logo be hosted by my clients so that a different ip is hosting my logo (where my image name will get picked up)?  Or is it best to host it myself? 3. If my company name and keyword are getting linked, is that one link too many? 4.
