I have an affiliate subdomain on a larger company's domain. (For example I have: www.victor.company.com on www.company.com). Would working to attain backlinks to the subdomain help it rank or will I just be putting forth my effort and helping the domain rank?

RE: Outbound Links to Authority sites
Thanks. Someone else told me it is a good sign of a trustworthy site. I was thinking of doing a link to a Wikipedia article or such of relevant reference material on topic.

Outbound Links to Authority sites
Will outbound links to a related topic on an authority site help, hurt or be irrelevanent for SEO purposes. And if beneficially, should it be Nofollow?

RE: New URL : Which is best
I've always had better luck and an easier time ranking with less trailing slashes.

RE: Few questions about panda and penguin
If you listen to Matt Cutts, the advice would be to think about the user experience. If those links on that page make it easier for the user and makes your page better, than that is how Google would tell you to go. You said that kewyword optimization is a no-no, but Google says OVER optimization is a no-no. In my opinion, I think they are referring to linking over-optimization for a particular keyword and lack of link diversity, creating an unnatural-looking linking pattern.

RE: "Mister Wong" DoFollow Social Bookmarking Backlinks
It's not spam. It answers your question. The video showed me how to use Article Marketing Robot, The Best Spinner, Tribe Pro, Only Wire and Market Samurai all to get great keyword-rich Dofollow backlinks and social shares. Plus good blog networks.
All of which I am in no way affiliated with.

Based on this post, I just tried Screaming Frog and it is an awesome tool/resource! Thanks Seiomoz crew!

RE: Page rank and ranking down
It's possible that a lot of the sites that linked to you were devalued, thus bringing down your page's value with it.

RE: Status Code: 404 Errors. How to fix them.
Why not 301 the 404s to similar pages? Fix your problem AND transfer some of the link juice.

RE: Should I worry about duplicate titles on pages where there is paginated content?
You should always worry about ANY duplcate content, whether it is tags, tilte, description or actual on-page content.

RE: Is the Penguin algorithmic penalty on a page basis or a site basis?
I think Elias is right about the query. I have a page that still ranks but my "primary" keyword is nowhere to be found anymore. It may have been deemed "over-optimized".
-
RE: Key word query
It depends. Are the people that are finding your site for the other terms converting into sales?

RE: Targeting US search traffic
I wouldn't do anything to cut down any traffic regardless of where it comes from. At least your traffic stats and Alexa ranking will improve, which in turn should help your sites ranking and thus increase US traffic along with it.

RE: Adding a picture page - Good or Bad?
There are a few reasons. If you look at the rest of the pages from my site, the company I sell for also sells lots of other products that have "celebrity" trainers, plus there are some fun pics of TV placement spots. Lots of "fun stuff" that I'd like to add that just didn't happen to work on a product page. Plus, it would give me more material to Pin on Pinterest to help drive traffic.
I guess my real question is... From a strictly SEO aspect, would it be detrimental to my site to have a Gallery page with links back to some of my other pages?
-
RE: Adding a picture page - Good or Bad?
Incorporating them into the blog is a good idea. The blog subdomain was sort of an after thought attachment to the static site that I really need to utilize better. I was really just think like a gallery page on the site.

Adding a picture page - Good or Bad?
I have a lot of cool pics that just did not quite make it on one of my pages. Not necessarily because I did not want to, but space reasons they just happened to lose out to another photo. What I was thinking was, maybe I can add like a gallery page? Possibly with links back to the pages that each photo was considered for? Would this be a decent idea or just a page deemed as having low quality/value and end up hurting my site. Or maybe you can add an idea that may make it work for me!

Fresh content ideas for a static site?
I have an ecommerce site. My home page is set-up just as I want it. I'm not looking to redo it or change my site to a blog. Just looking for some new, different, SEO friendly ideas or concepts to keep it "fresh".

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
For anyone else with Website Tonight, I have finally found a work around if not a fix. Being that Website Tonight will not allow you to do a 301 Redirect of an old page, I have figured out that if you re-create the deleted page (just the URL not the content) and use the Meta Tag to do a REFRESH to the new page, anytime the old page is clicked on it will bring them to the new page. Not ideal, of course, for SEO purposes but at least they are no longer going to a 404 and HOPEFULLY your old link juice will pass on.

RE: Sudden SERP stop for main keyword.
two other possibilities. gwt says severe site health issue. robot.txt is blocking some important page. but is a .js file that website tonight claims is standard protocol and that it is just an image file. secondly i foolishly renamed my homepage and it caused a duplicate content issue. go daddyl/website tonight won't allow me to use a 301 redirect. but those wouldnt only happen to one particular keyword.

RE: Sudden SERP stop for main keyword.
No spammy sites. Mainly article submissions and submitted it to alot of directories focusing primarily on the one word keyword. Could it be a lack of diverse anchor texts?

Sudden SERP stop for main keyword.
Hey guys,
I have a website with about 30 Google indexed pages. Most of my pages are perfoming well for my keywords. My homepage recently started doing extremely well. Number 4 overall for a highly competitive keyword/niche. Then after a week it dropped completely off the map. It still shows for secondary and tertiary keywords. But my primary keyword does not rank anywhere. I checked as deep as 50 pages. It's been 3 weeks now. Any ideas of what might have happened? Is there really a sandbox? Could I maybe have been Panda slapped? Or do you think it is more likely just a technical/SEO issue. It just seems odd that it jumped so high and then disappeared??

RE: Which of these six keyword combinations would you go after?
I would go for the phrase - hotels Perth. For converting traffic it is going to be the most natural search form. Most people are going to search something like: Find hotels in Perth, Cheap hotels in Perth, etc.

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
No I have not made any changes yet. Google has never preferred the /shakeology.html page. I don't think it's ever been indexed. My only problem is that since I tried to CHANGE the root url not CREAT ANOTHER VERSION my serps have seemed to tank and I am trying to avoid the duplicate content issues that I believe the /shakeology.html is causing.

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
My original wanted homepage is www .hompage .com
My duplicate is www. hompage .com/shakeology.html
Would it be possible and/or advisable to use a Parameter in Web Master tools to ignore the /shakeology.html?

RE: SEO for standard website pages
Customer reviews if applicable and if you do not already have a review page could work nicely.

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
Unfortunately no. The edit page section of Website Tonight only shows the newer homepage.com/shakeology.html version and not the original homepage.com
I am afraid to delete the homepage.com/shakeology.html in fear that I will be left with neither one.
You probably aren't seeing the preview of the .com/shakeology.html because it is not the indexed homepage. It shows for the homepage.com version. The canonical tag was me trying to redirect search engines from the new (unwanted) homepage to the original because Website tonight won't allow me to 301 it.
-
RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
Yes I saw that but unfortunately the organize your site page on website tonight only shows the new page. I'm afraid to delete it and lose both.

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
I really do appreciate all of your help. Here's the issue I'm having with this though... After I renamed the homepage file to add /shakeology.html to it (because I thought it would be beneficial to have a main keyword in the url) Website Tonight only shows me the homepage.com/shakeology.html and not the homepage.com. I'm afraid that if I delete /shakeology.html I will show neither one and in essence, according to Website Tonight just be deleting my homepage. I'm not sure how to properly accomplish what I'm looking to do without screwing myself any further??

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
Since I can't 301 it, would it be bad to delete the dupe page?

RE: How to track PPC conversions?
Looked into one but I don't think it will work. Plus they are $15-$30 a month. I'd do it if all else fails but someone told me that I could proboably set it up in Analytics as a goal but I can't figure it out.
All I am looking to do is determine is: Traffic Source (adwords/adcenter) + click on my "buy now" button = conversion.
-
RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
Yes thanks. I foolishly renamed my home page and caused a duplicate page. Website tonight will not allow me to do a 301 redirect. I put a canonical tag on the /shakeology. Should this do the trick?

How to track PPC conversions?
I use both adwords and Microsoft Adcenter. I am looking to be able to track my conversions from each PPC site. I do not have a "Thank You" or "Check Out" page that I can tag because any sales that I make are through clicks on a link that goes offsite to an affiliate company that I receive commission from. However, the link on my site is a "Buy Now" button, so to get some idea of which source is giving me better conversions I'd like to know whether adcenter or adwords is sending more people that end up clicking this link. Canb anyone suggest a way or a program to set up in this manner? Thanks in advance for your help!

Google previews meanings
I have noticed that when I do a site:mysite.com search and all my indexed pages come up, that when I hover over the arrows and bring up the previews some of the pages have things in a red rectangle and some of the pages even have zig zag-like tears/perforations running through them. What do these signify?

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
Oh OK great. Thanks so much for your help. I just got nervous because Google puts up the Severe Health Issue warning everytime I get crawled.

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
It was just crawled. And it was after robots.txt was uploaded. This is the page it lists: siteUtil.js

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
Yes. When I type www.shakes4life.com/robots.txt the same list shows.

RE: Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
Yes you are correct. I forgot to mention (sorry) that I do use S.E.V. It allows you to create a robots.txt and lets you choose pages to block. However, even when you choose allow all, by default it blocks certain files. Go Daddy tells me they are only system files but Google tells me an important page is blocked.

Severe Health issue on my site through Webmaster tools
I use Go Daddy Website Tonight. I keep getting a severe health message in Google Webmaster tools stating that my robots.txt file is blocking some important page. When I try to get more details the blocked file will not open. When I asked the Go Daddy peeps they told me that it was just image and backup files that do not need to be crawled. But if Google spiders keep thinking an important page is blocked will this hurt my SERPS?
