When migrating website platforms but keeping the domain name how best do we add the new site to google webmaster tools? Best redirect practices?
We are moving from BigCommerce to Shopify but maintaining our domain name and need to make sure that all links redirect to their corresponding links. We understand the nature of 301s and are fine with that, but when it comes to adding the site to google webmaster tools, not losing link juice and the change of address tool we are kind of lost. Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you so much in advance!

RE: Internal Link Building
We try to keep unnecessary links to a minimum. If any.
We do have recommended products at the bottom of each page, but they are images. I was just curious if it would behoove us to have more anchor text in our descriptions (if it was helpful and applicable of course).
Thanks guys.

Internal Link Building
For a large part of our SEO we have been focusing on inbound links (mainly from guest posts and blogger reviews). But our rankings have dropped (though I understand there is a natural fluctuation in rankings quite often) this week and it occurred to me that we should be focusing more on internal link building as well. We, of course, link often to our home page and have related products on every page but we lack a lot of direct key word links in in our description. Would it behoove us to be on a specific product page--take for example owls and friends wall decals--and somewhere in the description add something like "our nursery wall decals are safe for....and have "nursery wall decals" be the direct link since that is a key term for us?
I just wanted to make sure that we are headed in the right direction before I spend a massive amount of time updating all these product pages.
Any input would be really helpful.
Thanks so much,
Elizabeth

RE: Do "search keywords" matter?
Thank you for your response! There is a place for these keywords and then a place meta keywords so I would assume they are not the same thing. There's my dilemma.
I'm not sure of the difference between search keywords and meta keywords.
But it sounds like they aren't important either way.

Do "search keywords" matter?
I've been getting conflicting accounts about this. We aways fill out the Title Tag, Meta Description and Product Tags(<- for internal purposes) but we are concerned about how important the "search keywords" are. We use bigcommerce and they describe their value as this: "the search keywords are optional, but if entered will be used for two things. First, they will be used along with the product name to create meta tags for search engine (I know meta keywords are not important, so is this what they mean?). Second, they will be used to assist people when searching your products. (Also internal, right?)." For all intents and purposes I think it is NOT super important but I wanted to make sure before I let them take a back burner.
Thank you for your help in advance!

RE: Link Building
Eric-
This is great, thanks so much. I usually do send back a "Sorry we are going to penalized so we can't" (though hopefully must more eloquently put than that). And it's rare that I do get a response as well, though if I say it kindly enough I can usually at least begin some kind of conversation.
And I see your point. That makes sense.
I'll think of something. Thanks again.

RE: Link Building
Hey Mark,
Thanks so much for your response! We have really been working on relationship building, that's really important to us. We use that a lot with social and e-mail marketing but sometimes we have relevant information that we want to get out and I get frustrated with the lack of responsiveness for good, unpaid content. I guess the problem then is patience...
Thank you for the link!

Link Building
Guest blogging, guest blogging, guest blogging. Since I started my career as a "brand manager" I've heard the term "guest blogging" at least a million times. So I've put a fair amount of energy into it and for a long time it worked beautifully, still is in many ways. However, in the last month or two nearly every blog I have contacted about guest blogging has said that "due to an increase in guest blogging request we are now charging a fee of x" so on and so forth. Doesn't paying for links put you at great risk for being deindexed? And can't bloggers get in trouble for this as well? Do they not know, not care or think it doesn't apply to them? And if it's a sponsored post, say I send them $100 of free product and pay them $100 to do it, isn't that just hiring someone to talk about my brand? Why would google punish me for that? Anyway around it?
Thank you so much! I look forward to your suggestions/advice/criticism.

PINTEREST?!!!!!! What is up?! Help, please
I've read, over and over that Pinterest creates no follow links and so is good for virality, traffic and social media but does NOT help with SEO. Is this true? I had an "SEO" tell me recently that this does actually create backlinks. I don't believe them...
