Our sitemap is not indexed well
-
Hey there,
Hope you guys can help. We get the following error: Nested indexing. Another Sitemap index refers to the index of sitemaps.
The thing is that we cant find the error they are talking about.
Thanks!!!!
-
Looks like it worked!.
We send 123.000 urls and it only indexed 9.000....Is that because we had 2 sitemap index, and it takes time?.
Thanks again!

I would say yes if you also delete the sitemap from the Google Webmaster Tools Sitemap division. Than Google knows what sitemap(s) to use.

Martijn,
Sorry to bother you.
One more question, should we erase http://cursos.workea.org/sitemap.xml file once we have the the sitemaps that are in this sitemap index in the original one?
Thanks
-
Will do! and let you know if it worked.
Thank you very much Martijn
Cheers!

Hi Eduardo,
Yepm, like expected. The first sitemap you mentioned is an sitemap index file. But the http://cursos.workea.org/sitemap.xml is also a sitemap index. Within the Google policies that's not possible. You should directly include the sitemaps of your http://cursos.workea.org/sitemap.xml file in your first and only sitemap index file.

Hi Eduardo,
I have just tried to access the http://cursos.workea.org/sitemap.xml sitemap and it is coming up with a 404 error.
Are you sure that you have placed the sitemap in the root folder of the subdomain? Try deleting it from the server and then re-uploading it again.
Matt.

Hi Eduardo,
This topic/ question might help you out, it was asked a couple of weeks ago. And I think it could provide you with an answer: http://www.seomoz.org/q/sitemap-nested-indexing-this-sitemap-index-is-referenced-by-another-sitemap-index
Hope this helps,
Martijn. -
Hi Eduardo,
Do you have multiple sitemaps that are shown in an initial index? If so, it may be that there is a problem here.
Try just making the sitemap's name sitemap.xml, and making sure it is within the root domain folder. If this is already done then you will need to drop us a link to your sitemap to take a look,
Matt.

If you provide I link to your sitemap, I could take a look and see what may be causing the issue.

Index or No Index (Panda Issue)
Hi, I believe our website has been penalized by the panda update. We have over 9000 pages and we are currently indexing around 4,000 of those pages. I believe that more than half of the pages indexes have either thin content. Should we stop indexing those pages until we have quality page content? That will leave us with very few pages being indexed by Google (Roughly 1,000 of our 9,000 pages have quality content). I am worried that we would hurt our organic traffic more by not indexing the pages than by indexing the pages for google to read. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim Rodriguez

Modifying Well Established & Well Indexed Content
I have a page that is very well indexed and has a 1st position ranking in google. It is the best landing page in my site. That being said, it's several years old and I honestly think it could be better. The images could be enlarged, the the images could have fancy box enlargements instead of just linking out to flickr, there could be more content about follow up projects that people have done. I'm noteably nervous about changing such a clutch piece of content on my site. I do want to improve the content for users, not just make it more SEO friendly (it's already SEO'd), but I'm afraid that any change could cause a set back in ranking. Am I being afraid of nothing, should I just go for it and improve my content, or should I be extra cautious when editing well indexed content like this? Thanks for the advice

How do you create a 301 redirect for www.mysite..com/index.html in htaccess.
I understand that it is possible to create a 301 redirect for www.mysite..com/index.html to www.mysite.com. (as well as subdirectories.) How is this accomplished? My hosting company says that setting this up in htaccess will cause "Apache to geti into an infinite loop and the page won’t load." I have read on the forum that this is possible. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. THanks. Perri

Shall Google index a search result?
Hi, I've a website with about 1000 articles. Each article has one ore more keywords / tags. So I display these keywords at the article page and put a link to the intern search engine. (Like a tag cloud) The search engine lists als articles with the same keyword and creates a result page. This result page is indexed by Google. The search result contains the title of the article, a short description (150-300 chars.) and a link to the article. So, Google believes, that there are about 5.000 pages instead of 1.000 because auf the link to the search result pages. The old rule was for me: More pages in Google = better. But is this still true nowadays? Would be a "noindex, follow" better on these search result pages? (Is there a way to tell Google that this is a search result page?) Best wishes, Georg.
