How to track full path of website visitors until conversion, not just landing page?
-
hi,
This is my first question in the forums and I'm looking forward to be part of a great SEO community. I was wondering ow to track full path of website visitors until conversion, not just landing page?
I've been using Wordpress jetpack site stats for while, which shows great data like keywords used in google, landing page etc. But I would like to have access to the full path for each separate visitors (including their IP address and country is possible) to improve my website and conversions.
Example:
step 1: Visitor X types "seo" on Google
step 2: visitor lands on my homepage
step 3: visitor visits to order page and buys
Is there such tool available as a Wordpress plugin? Or do I have to use Google analytics for this?
thank you for your help,
Marc

Thank you Mark, I will set that up right away. Got 1 more question on this subject:
If I set the 'goal' as my order page, I am still missing insights on how many people actually paid compared to the number of people that only visited my order page. I currently use Paypal IPN to receive payments. Does Google analytics offer tracking of the people that only went through and paid via Paypal?
thank you,
Marc

It's called Google Analytics

Use Google Analytics for this - set up your conversions as goals, and then you can track via various reports the conversion process - what did they do, where did they go, how did they flow through your website from initial landing page to full conversion.
Google Analtyics is very powerful - it does multi touch attribution - multiple visits until your conversions, how they came each time to your site, etc.
It really is a wonderful tool - here is a guide to setting up goals - https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1032415?hl=en
Once the goals are set up and the data is flowing, the fun really begins, and you can make lots of actionable analysis to improve your site based on it.
Good luck,
Mark

If you dive into Google Analytics/ GWT, you can get some great information like this - and it's free. Not sure the exact reason you want to follow specific individual behavior, but if you are trying to gather more intel on how "hot" your prospect is, then you may want to consider looking into marketing automation software. These are designed to track individuals and score them. They can even integrate them into your CRM like Salesforce.
Do a search for marketing automation software. Here are a few to consider, from low cost to higher cost, higher functionality: Optify, Act-On, Hubspot, Marketo.

Goal Tracking WIth Optimizely
Hi Guys, I am finally delving into the world of conversion rate optimization and split A/B Testing. It's all going well, have crazy egg for heatmapping (which is bringing up some interesting stuff) and I have decided to test some changes. I have setup a variation in optimizely, so i can see what effect the change would have, but i am struggling. I am trying to add the hellobar via crazy egg to a variation (it's just a simple piece of javascript), but when I do I get the following error "Error evaluating variation javascript:

Any Reports on Conversion Rate Drops in 2014?
I'm looking for some reports about conversion rate changes over the past year as well as any trends you may have noticed about ecommerce conversion rates because we are seeing something quite odd. We are seeing a large drop in overall conversion rates on some sites I manage this year despite seeing significant revenue growth. When I looked through the stats I found something interesting. Our conversion rates have actually increased on each of the three device types (desktop, tablet and mobile) but because there is a huge surge in visits from mobile devices (the device with the lowest conversion rates) and a large decline in vistis from our top convertor (desktop) our overall conversion rates are down. This is especially troubling to me because my bonus was based on increasing conversion rates and I could use some help from you to see if others in the industry are facing this issue or not. Thanks

Suggestions to Improve Worst Conversion Form Ever Designed?
My commercial real estate web site has about the worst conversion form ever designed (http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/visitor-details). The form appears whenever a visitor does a property search. If they do not release their phone number and email address they don't get results. The form only gets completed 25% of the time and often the contact details are wrong. The visitors either exit the site at that page or go to the listing or neighborhood pages to view listings without doing a filtered search. In an attempt to increase conversions we are softening the form and not making completion mandatory. After entering an inquiry the visitor will be shown three property listings before the form pops up, The idea being that once they have seen product they will be more inclined to release contact info. Also, the form will appear once they have viewed three listings anywhere on the site, not just for search results. Unlike the existing conversion form (http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/visitor-details) we are trying to keep the text very concise. The new form will be Java script rather than a URL. Can anyone offer some ideas on how to make the text of these new forms more enticing? The forms are listed below. We will probably show the first one after the visitor views 3 listings and the variation of it after the visitor views another 3 listings. ** FORM #1** Quit wasting time searching for listings. (watch icon) Call me to discuss available space. Yes No --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FORM #2 Don’t search for listings, we will do it for you. We have off market listings that no one knows about. Contact us now about off market listings. Yes No ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks, Alan

Goal Tracking in Google Analytics
Hi guys, I just want to ask if you have videos or blogs about setting up goal tracking using conversion page or a "thank you page" in Google Analytics. This will help me to get how many inquiries (from contact form) I am getting and for me to know where they came from using Google Analytics (countries, source/site they used, time on site, category page and landing page, etc.). #2 question - In case I don't have a "thank you" page, is it possible for me to get these "goals"? Do I need to insert a code in each of the "send" button in my contact form? Looking forward for a positive response from you guys. 🙂 Thanks, JC

Rich Snippets on service pages and how to aggregate?
Question about rich snippets.. I want to showcase reviews of the SERVICE's offered but I am not sure if I should include them on the service page, a review page or both. For example, we offer snow plowing and lawn care services and each service has its own page. I have reviews for both services under the my "testimonials" page. So, a couple questions. 1 - Should I pace a single review marked up on each service page? 2 - Does the review need to be a google review or can I use reviews from other sites? If not, do I need to notate that somehow using the schema vocabulary? Example, I have a 5 star review from thumbtrackDOTcom, is it ok to mark up the review and include a nofollow link? (No follow because thumbtrack is actually a competitor.) 3 - When I looked into creating an aggregate rich snippet I got confused / concerned. Is it ok to list multiple services as a product? Example: <div< span="">itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Product"> <span< span="">itemprop="name">Lawn Care and Snow Removal</span<> <div< span="">itemprop="aggregateRating" itemscopeitemtype="http://schema.org/AggregateRating">

Can I track user journeys from a particular source?
We want to track users from a particular campaign to see what they do when they get to the site. The site generates revenue from clicks out so we want to be able to see whether visitors from a particular source click on multiple deals. i.e. enters from the source and then clicks on 3 different deals that take the user to other sites. Using GA, can I track this by implementing UTM on both the campaign links and outgoing links? Can I see exactly how many deals the average user is clicking on? As far as I know I can: Track visitors from the campaign Track overall clicks on deals Divide click outs by visitors But I can't track how many deals the visitors from campaign A clicked on... or can I?
